Passing through Leeds this morning was this top n tailed test train. DB Schenker operated 67027 is seen tagging along the rear, the train would then make its way east to Neville Hill where it would then return to continue its circuit around the rails of Yorkshire.

On the other end was former Wrexham & Shropshire 67012, in the process of being displaced by brand new Class 68's operated by DRS.

It's always a good idea to run a test roll through a new camera. While I don't usually post those rolls I really liked this one.

Barrie Howard Sykes Test Pictures January 2020

Trying out two styles on four pictures. Each numbered versions is a sharp rendition and the numbered and lettered ‘a’ version is a gentler version and looks more as the pictures do from a distance.

These images were shot in daylight. They have been edited to be close copies of the originals. The originals were created by magnifying glass from photographic originals. Barrie Howard Sykes was my father. When diagnosed with terminal Cancer he had time enough to find his way back to art. From his youth and before he lost an eye in a motoring crash he had enjoyed drawing both technical and artistic pictures. When went to Barnsley Hospice he was offered courses and joined the art group. The encouragement that he got from the tutor and others at the hospice led to his images being exhibited. He was thrilled with the positive reaction that he received. With one eye and the vision of that eye reduced and darkening he used a magnifying glass to see the detail of the original and to guide his painting. He was red / green colour blind and facing the treatment of Cancer and the reduction in life from the illness and treatment. His struggle gave him a focus to continue towards and these pictures are a record of his challenge and his answers to the challenge.

Once decided upon the image style there will be more details available with more pictures too.

Tried to make a home studio today out of a big box, some plastic and white poster board. Also got a piece of black cloth to drape inside. Tried a radio, violin and a variety of flowers. It was sort of fun and sort of frustrating positioning and repositioning the lights. Somewhat satisfied with how it worked. I just need more practice. And better photo ideas.

Test of Hie and Efke IR 820C outdoors. HIE shot at 200ASA. Efke shot at 25ASA. Developed in the same batch. (Tmax RS developer normal Tmax 100 time). And yes I've tried a 29 RED filter as well, and it doesn't look any different that the 25.

Testing the Fuji X-E2. Coming form the X-E1, I observed that the focusing is noticably faster in good light and more or less the same in low light with the X-E1. The EVF refresh rate is much better and the rear LCD has a much better resolution. Overall operational speed is a bit faster too.:)

Running a bit later with this weeks submission to the 52. Thursday/Friday is my target period to take the shot for the week.

Lots of trial and error with this shot. An urchin test collected from the beach a couple of weeks ago, and a piece of bog wood that probably detached from the preserved peat buried under the sand.

Lighting is provided by a cheap torch from the right of camera. No fill. As the project continues I'll have turns at getting more creative lighting film shots.

August testing can be so tough! Summer vacations. Back to school time. There are a lot of distractions! So proud of all of our students who prepared and did their best at the August Belt Testing!

Test Shot for my new lens. Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM

The test is performed on three or four specimens from a relatively undisturbed soil sample. A specimen is placed in a shear box which has two stacked rings to hold the sample; the contact between the two rings is at approximately the mid-height of the sample. A confining stress is applied vertically to the specimen, and the upper ring is pulled laterally until the sample fails, or through a specified strain. The load applied and the strain induced is recorded at frequent intervals to determine a stress-strain curve for the confining stress.
