Some preliminary conclusions after these tests about “best performance setting”
My objective was to find the best performance setting for outdoors for my camera.
NOTE: to convert RAF files to JPG I got much sharper results, as well as more noise, using either Lightroom 4 or TheraPee 4 (an open and free software). Setting “extreme sharpness” in the provided software also helps.
My camera shows orbs and in RAW is not as sharp as many other people X10s that show to be amazing out of the box (I am thinking to send it to the service by the way).
Sharpness, it was my main concern and with my camera got the best results using: EXR HD mode but also P mode worked ok, M size, DR 100 and speed over 1/100 if possible. Neither RAW mode nor Large size did achieve the degree of sharpness reached by this setting.
I shoot with IS in mode 2 when hand holding the camera, but I turn it OFF if using a tripod.
To avoid blowing up the highlights I set: EV -0,3, highlights low and Astia film setting.
To avoid “orbs” just keep apart from maximum aperture settings in takes with strong lights over a dark background.
I like to shoot at ISO 100 if possible, going up, even at just ISO 200, show differences. Anyway in very low light I go until ISO 800 in AUTO mode.
I like Astia film setting, colors are a little warmer but balanced, contrast and saturation are not exaggerated. Please consider that RAW mode is not available in EXR mode and/or M size and I need them.
No particular advises over AF modes, they worked perfectly, even in low light.
Shoot lower than 1/800 unless mandatory. I am not convinced about this point, but for sure it is better to go 1/600 at ISO 100 than 1/1200 at ISO 200 (shooting still objects as buildings). It means to avoid using AUTO ISO mode.
So you've installed Google Chrome. There's only one thing you need to check works fine. Who gives a monkeys about anything else?

Freeze blotter test in the Seed Health Laboratory at CIMMYT. To detect specific fungi, seed is incubated in ideal fungal growing conditions. Technicians look for distinctive growths of fungal species of quarantine concern. The seed is briefly frozen before incubation to prevent germination.

Some tests... ignore the crappy audio... better to have something, otherwise this would be painfully boring to watch!

The Ultrasonic Test Train at Craigendoran Junction, i know its a bit blurred but what are those reflections on the windscreens ?
A bit of a summer project - that took longer than expected.
Taking two redundant Hornby Mk IIa BFK vehicles and splicing them together a reasonable representation of a corridor first can be made. This can then be used as the basis for Test Car 6.
Finished!

I'm celebrating the transition to a Pro account by posting something that is hardly my best work.. but posting it because I've got all this new space to frolick in ;-)
Nationality test? Basically if you're into this stuff you're an Aussie. If not... well we'll still like you but you're clearly not true blue.

Trying out the “compact” Sony RX1 let me to believe that modern “rolleiflexes” (massive top of consumer image quality packed in a small and portable solution) could very well exist outside of the overfamed Leica brand. While the sensor display similar greatness as modern 24mp fullframe Sony sensors (seen in the Nikon D600/D610, Sony a99/a7), the 35mm Zeiss Lens makes the entire experience very enjoyable by providing a balanced look in colors/sharpness/contrast/bokeh that is very hard to match. Found at 1600$, the solution represents an amazing value for those who pair the camera with say an RX100 or want to carry the smallest and highest image quality producing camera.
The build quality of the body is near perfect as no detail or corners have been cut. The only complain is that the body itself gets heavy after an hour of handholding (I was really treating it like a point and shoot)
AF isn't it’s strong point though, people wanting quicker AF would want to invest in the A7. Some quirks like not using the smallest f number in shutter priority mode don’t really prevent this from being an amazing camera to recommend.
By setting the camera profile to “Deep” in the develop module of Lightroom, you will already achieve a great look to work on from the get go. This streamlines the workflow even more than any other files I’ve worked with.
If there is a camera today that's the perfect mariage between sensor and lens, this is probably IT.
I really loved the RX1
