When this cityscape was photographed, I was in the middle of an incensed quarrel with the helicopter pilot, roughly 1,000 feet (305 meters) above Toronto. I was very displeased with the pilot for many, many reasons, and he knew it.

This image was captured about an hour later than originally scheduled. As my fortune would have it, the sunset and blue hour that evening had never been so vivid and illustrious, and I completely missed them because the pilot. . .well. . .he had simply forgotten that I had scheduled an appointment from Seattle the month before. I had purposely booked an aerial flight a few weeks in advance in anticipation of a sensational blue hour. Many of you know exactly what I'm talking about -- a significant part of what we do as photographers requires immense planning and strategy.

As a result, that same evening, I had almost forgotten that I was a scholar of International Affairs, Foreign Policy & Diplomacy with a mindset of fostering beneficial multicultural relations.

Almost.

The whole story, which I try my best to recount (as humorously as I can muster), can be found on my blog. The article is called "The Frustrated Photographer & The Forgetful Pilot."

Also, If interested, you can view my latest photo essay featuring images of the protests in Seattle against police brutality and institutional racism in my blog article: "The Pandemic, The Pandemonium & The Protests."

Was making room on the hard drive and ran across this shot from last year, decided to post it before clearing up space. Gotta come up with a better system to save and organize my pictures. All my orginals are still on SD cards, I have 500 gigabytes on the hard drive and a terabyte external drive, but file management on the Apple gear has eluded me. I've always had PC's in the past, totally different. Anyway, enough of that.

This was taken on a rainy day out of Georgia. I took this one while waiting for traffic to crawl forward. Major traffic problems that day. This was in Georgia, but just south of Chattanooga Tennessee on I-75.

I've been working hard for 2 months to cull my photo vault, and I can report I've reclaimed over a terabyte of free space. And look what I found: frame 3 of 3 of a coyote pounce. Yup, almost 9 years ago. Not that I've not seen them on occasion, but I miss it - various reasons, at least twice by heat wave distortion. Not this time - May Gray morning light. Kinda cool you can tell she's a working mama. She missed on this one though.

Europe, The Netherlands, Zuid Holland, Rotterdam, Centre, Markthal, MVRDV (slightly cut from all sides)

During the realization of the Rotterdam Market Hall (2014) emotions flared. The hall would economically disrupt the nearby street market and mess up sightlines. Well, it probably still does the latter, but it proved to be no problem for the street market - the two customer bases were sufficiently different.

Covered market halls can be found in many cities in the world. But due to the fact that apartments straddle the Rotterdam one, makes is quite unique. The 228 apartments are draped over the market in a horseshoe form. In the hall itself (6200 m2 there are about 100 sales units food stalls and food shops and several restaurants including a supermarket. Design: MVRDV. One of the striking things is the artwork ‘Horn of plenty’ (Horn of Plenty) on the ceiling. It is 11.000 m2 and was designed by Arno Coenen and Iris Roskam.

3D techniques have been used to produce it. To render the huge 1.47 terabyte file, the servers of the Pixar Studios were utilized.

it's been a while since we've had big blue skies. Today's forecast is for heavy rain possibly turning to sleet later . . .and my central heating system is making whining noises like it's about to break down . . .

Backup update: I bought a second external drive - 3 terabytes - just for my Pictures folder, which apart from all my photos, also holds the Lightroom catalogues, an absolutely essential part of the LR system.. So I will use the first external drive just for Time Machine backups of my MacBook Pro.

Sorry but my new hard drive is on order. So right now I am having a hardtime getting through all the pictures from this weekend. I am getting a 1 terabyte hard drive. LOL I already filed one so I have to get another one. And my computer is still being worked on from the lightning hit. Anyway I just wanted to say hi!

Sorry for the long delay from Flickr, friends. I hope my Photo Friends are doing well.

I've had a lot of things going on - other endeavors I've been pursuing, camera breakage, etc.

I have around a terabyte of unprocessed (usable) RAW files from years past. So, I reckon it's time start processing and sharing some.

Listen, some days I don't know what I am doing on this Earth truly. How does it keep happening that I wake up over and over again?

Anyway, I stopped doing this for awhile but yesterday on New Year's Eve was the birthday of one of my very favorite artists of all time, Kazu Makino.

One of the only consolations of living in these times is the fact that we have so many years of art to keep us company. I start listening to Blonde Redhead and it's like I enter a different headspace altogether.

Kind of like when I look at old photos. It took awhile for me to get it right when it came to everything. You have to get it wrong for so many times first. I didn't start photographing anything and have it turn out genuine and brilliant like I wanted. I experienced so much stress and frustration. Combine this with the fact that the bands I love the most always play in darkness. I'll never love Taylor Swift and her 100 ISO bright light extravaganzas. It just doesn't appeal to me artistically or musically.

I take as many photos of bands as I do when I am on vacation. I would say that I probably have at least 2 Million photos I have never even looked at and I mean that literally. I have terabytes filled with them and a constant backup system. One of my good friends recently lost all of his concert photos from the past 20 years or so. I think I'd rather lose an arm.

Time travel for me is when I go back to concerts and look through those moments. There's a whole lot of photos I delete if they are not perfect for me and I have gotten better about not being a hoarder of the unseen so to speak. I liked this one for The New Year as I found it very relatable for me now . Makino was the age I will be turning this year in this moment. She has a look of both hope and anxiety. You can almost hear her gasping through space and time. She is clinging with a slight blur in her hands to a light that won't fit inside. She has so many hopes for the world. It is 2015. Before all of the horrors that came after. We perceptive humans all knew it was coming but we didn't know what. It wasn't tangible and we couldn't put it a finger on it.

Listen to me when I tell you that without certain things in my life, I would not be breathing. Music is one of them. I listen to music every minute of my day and night. I even listen when I am sleeping. If there is a server crash and the music stops, I wake up immediately. I cannot function without music. I cannot move. I cannot even blink to show that I'm not in a deep coma.

"You know we are all equally damaged."

Happy New Year.

7 terabytes of hard drives full. Just cleaning out files.

Down in Royston t looked like a bonny evening last week so I went for a walk with Toby.

After months of having to charge my old Nokia phone a few times a day I’ve succumb to buying a new phone. I’d put it off because I hate bedding in a new phone, downloading all the little apps I use, trying to remember passwords them give up and sync a new one. It’s probably because I used to work in IT I find this type of thing such a chore. I’ve decided to move up market a little this time as I always buy budget phones and usually not the latest model, so I’m getting a Google 7a as I like the size and was swayed by the camera, like I need another camera! The one thing I don’t like about this phone is the lack of storage and no external SD card facility. Because my primary IT skill was database management is probably why I crave for storage, I’m processed by Gigabytes. Back in the day my first database’s for a large utility company were lucky to be a couple of Gig in size, now I have terabytes all around me, so getting a phone with no SD card provision is probably a good thing to ween me off this storage addiction. I still bought another 1TB external SSD as it was going so cheap!

As I cleared the 4 Terabytes of old photos off my external storage device, I found a few that deserved to be processed. This closeup of a Red-tailed Hawk flying from the ground and up over my left shoulder didn't originally get post processing due to the wings being clipped. When I brought up the shadows I realized how sharp the eyes were and changed my mind.

As promised, I'm uploading my summer pics. I took over 2000 photos while we were in Wyoming *dizzy face* and quite frankly I haven't looked at any of them. My lap top is really starting to feel the pain of all the RAW photos I have on it, so I'm waiting on a terabyte external drive to get here before I work on any of the Teton/Yellowstone pics (it should be here today if the WNC flood doesn't strike. Our backyard feels like a bog already)

I loved it out there. It was really hard to come back (specially since it rained 3 out of the 6 days we were there) But I did my best in spite of the less than optimal shooting conditions.

"A what?"

"A two terabyte solid state drive."

"What you need one for?"

"To fix my time machine, alright? Can you get me one or not?"

"You got the coin?"

I opened Flickr this morning and clicked on an image--got a congratulations you now have a terabyte of space and then posted the image, IN THE NEW BETA. It was frightening--ugly to look at, all black except for the huge image and the right hand column, only slightly wider that the last one. I had heard that other people were thrust into Beta and was terrified. Fortunately I noticed in the upper right hand corner a request to "sign in". I clicked this, my Yahoo sign-in page appeared. I signed in and lo and behold I was back in what we have come to believe is paradise. So beware--Beta is coming!!!! Now the Flickr administration has categorically declared that there will be no option to stay in this version, once Beta is let out of its cage. I suggest we mount a huge campaign for the option or our life on Flickr will be hell, if we stay.

Going through terabyte cards of shots while my Nikon is in for cleaning this week. This was taken a few weeks ago during one of my workshops. The fall colors were strong in this location. Click to enjoy large.

Voltarei.

Gratidão a todos!

Namastê

Friends today I'm here because this is my last post here on Flickr.

Unfortunately the 1 terabyte of free photography we were entitled to whenever Flickr gave us a few years ago, we will not have anymore.

They're demanding a Pro account and I will not do Pro.

Anyone who wants to meet me and continue to see my photos I'm in Instagran like @marciaaki or Facebook also Márcia Aki.

Thank you for the company during these almost 13 years of living here on Flickr.

I'm sad, but I hope to find each of you on other social networks.

If there is any change. I'll be right back.

Thank you all!

Namaste

Ehm...it's true, 1 terabyte is a temptation to play with pics!

Charlotte informed me earlier this evening that Flicker was changing its policies on non pro folks from 1 terabyte to 1000 pics. I was actually surprised that I'm over that number. I read their reasoning and I sort of agree, the only problem is, I have sent two kids through college, my autos are a 2001 Focus, a 1992 pickup, and a 2006 Tahoe. I'm Rich in name only and I have an expensive hobby. It looks like I'm going to be one of the millions to fall by the wayside after Jan first.

Take a long look at this one if you please, not a landscape one can find in a lot of places and it's representative of my current mood.

signed,

don't need mo monthly spences.

Tourists having fun on one of the most paradisiacal beaches in Sardinia: La Pelosa, Stintino. This is the largest panorama I've ever made in terms of megapixels (more than 1 terabyte of psd files!).

ah! finally. ive waited years to go mac. i'm loving the organizational power and storage capacity of this wonderful piece of gear. i almost bought a terabyte of external storage before my fever broke. i ended up with a 20" imac G5 with 250 gig hard drive, 1.5 gig of RAM, an iSight, and an external 250 gig hard drive.

i cant wait to start migrating my archives in and pulling out shots i passed on using with my crappyass 15" cro-mag underbright monitor and busted gateway laptop.

I want to thank my friend Von Canon for making the trip to the Apple Store and keeping me tethered but being as excited as I was. you rock, sister!

What I should probably upload today is a photo of the wires that have mated under my desk in the past 10 years, and my attempts to know which ones to unplug so that the new computer can be "hooked up" relatively quickly. I'm hoping that the 2022 iteration of a PC works like a "Smart TV" (an oxymoron if ever I heard one), and just recognized stuff and connects through some miracle of bluetoothery and a one terabyte jump drive full of the "old" software and drivers.

This Chamelauclium is toward the end of the three stages of flowering for the plant. I had it all planned out, but a couple of weeks after taking this shot, a new patch of Chamelauclium sprang up with the initial green and white flowers, red buds, and the hint of purple just peeking through. It is a large shrub and I guess one can find (now) all four flowers. It's a shame that it will start to seed in another week or two, and then it will be a year before I can tackle the composition of Chamelaucliums (ia?) once again.

Many curious local friends inquire about my lack of exhibitionism.

Of not wanting to promote the industry of beauty so called tourism.

I just merely 'forget' to tag my images properly.

Resort-names, Country, climate, environment, etc...

Well.

I see no point. To me, beauty is everywhere.

Bangkok to Bombay to Brussels.

Beautiful.

A person who waits to unwrap his/her camera until a pre-conceived target is reached, is merely following a hollow dream.

"If I was in your location..."

"If I had your kind of camera..."

Many such comments are targeted at my photos.

Instead, I'd rather look around me.

The immediate me.

Faces, shapes, skies, land, landmarks... God.

Why does memory cards have to be limited to GBs. Why can't we have

Terabytes of storage?

There is just so much to shoot!

Above.

When I was working at Sun Island ( www.villahotels.com/sun/index.htm )

this used to be a favourite spot.

Off limits for the tourists, (because of unloading and other back-house activities) this jetty is bypassed by many, as uninteresting and ugly.

I find many photo opportunities, of both action and scenery, here.

Beauty, they say, is in the eye of the beholder.

Happy shooting to all my friends.

I was cleaning my external hard drive of extra photos (3 Terabytes worth) and discovered some gems. This was taken in the fall of 2021 near Lyle, WA.

Netherlands, Rotterdam, the back side of the 117 mtr long & 11 floors high tunnel-building of the “Markthal” or “Koopboog”, the market hall. The inside ceiling of the markethall is adorned with an 11.000 m2 artwork by Arno Coenen, named “Hoorn des Overvloeds”, horn of plenty. The artwork shows strongly enlarged fruits, vegetables, seeds, fish, flowers & insects & selected out of 9 international candidates. The work was made using digital 3D-techniques, this gigantic file of almost 1,5 terabytes needed special servers, these are also used by Pixar Studios for making animated movies. The digital 3D-animation was separated in 4000 pieces & then printed on 4000 perforated aluminium panels.

The indoor windows in the ceiling are apartment windows which cannot be opened & are soundproofed.

The market hall, is a 175 million € residential- & office building with a market hall underneath, located near the central station. The building opened in October 2014. The grey nature stone Market Hall building complex structure in a horseshoe-tunnel shape houses 228 apartments, 4600 m2 retail space, 1600 m2 “horeca”, an abbreviation of the words Hotel/Restaurant/Café & an underground 4-storey parking garage with a capacity for more than 1000 cars.

The building has a glass facade on both sides, these are made up of smaller glass windows. All of these are hung around a structure of steel cables, 34 metres high & 42 metres wide, it the largest glass-window cable structure in Europe. Each facade has 26 vertical & 22 horizontal cables.

The football area-sized indoor market area is an experience with100 fresh produce sellers with fresh fish, meat, vegetable stalls, delicatessens flowers & plants, 15 food shops & 8 restaurants, …a great place for foodies.

From my blog (oldlenses.blogspot.ca/2015/10/signs-that-you-are-addicted...):

G.A.S = Gear Acquisition Syndrome. A disease that affects mostly men. It infects the central reasoning area of the brain and makes men vulnerable into thinking more gear make them better photographers, and thus buying gear that they don't need. There is no known cure, but there is a silver lining; some men are able to recover as the photographs they make shift from pictures of cameras, lenses, brick walls, and resolution charts to other form of pictures.

You love pictures in RAW, and hate those cooked in jpeg

You have thousands of tiny screws harvested from dead cameras/lenses

Well, 1200 down, another 4500 to go. When the Smugmug purge is over, I'll be down to 1000 photos here on Flickr. This is not because I can't afford it, but because I don't like being blackmailed by folks who change the rules in the middle of the game. In my mind because I used only 3.5% of the free terabyte of storage I was promised, Smugmug ought to wait till I use up the other 96.5% before they begin charging me. A commitment is a commitment! I do value doing what I can to stay, though, because of the many friends I have made here!

I lived in Barcelona and Madrid. Being a photographer I noticed a distinct difference in many things between the two cities. For example, Barcelona had some of the most sensational "wall art" and graffiti I'd ever come across. I was told that there were actually extension classes offered teaching the "art" of graffiti and that there was a wall where many students were taken to to practice their techniques. I came upon a wall that was covered with wall posters and was left to decay and wither with the elements - something very difficult to find in Madrid. I wasn't sure why but noticed that in Madrid all wall posters were systematically torn from their notice boards almost as soon as they were put up. I assumed it was the local governments way of trying to encourage a kind of "post no bills" ordinance.

At first, I was frustrated at how consistently bills were stripped and pealed off the walls all around Madrid (unlike Barcelona). However, I soon got into the myriad collages left over by the strips and pieces that kept accumulating with each tear away.

Was glad to have come across the torn posters I did find in Barcelona. Unfortunately a full terabyte of photographs taken over years is locked into an external hard drive which is inaccessible because it fell.

This image was one of the very few that I happened to store on my computer hard drive. I may not see the rest for some time.

I've discovered that I have about a terabyte of photos. I'm certain that there are numerous duplicates in there but boy, is it a big job to organize.

Part of my holidays were spent trying to do just that and in the process I realized I have a lot of favourite images that I've never posted to Flickr (or submitted to Getty, hint, hint).

This is the start of a barrage of uploads with witty captions to follow.

BTW, I'm zooming closer to my 1,000th upload and to my 1,000,000th viewing.

It's an evil tachikoma! I wanted to make a better ride for my Terabyte figure, reviewed the trans-bright green pieces I had and things just clicked.

Sie werden immer kleiner. Auf dem 1 Terabyte Speicher in der Größe einer Briefmarke finden mehr als 100000 jpg-Fotos mit 24 Megapixel Platz

hey are getting smaller and smaller. The 1 terabyte memory, the size of a postage stamp, can hold more than 100,000 jpg photos with 24 megapixels

Glass entrance to the Market Hall (Markthal), a residential- and office building with a market hall underneath the "horse-shoe" which was designed by MVRDV and completed in October 2014. Inside of the building the walls are painted in striking colors with artwork by Arno Coenen showing huge size fruits, vegetables, seeds, fish, flowers and insects. The work was made using digital 3D-techniques. This enormous file of 1,47 terabytes needed special servers, these are also used by Pixar Studios for making animated movies. The digital 3D-animation was separated in 4000 pieces and then printed on to steel. Some call it The largest artwork in the world or The Sistine Chapel of Rotterdam.

On my recent trip to Sierra Valley with the snow covered mountains I found it so beautiful and also very challenging with the flooded valley floor...it was a sight to behold.

The Rough-legged Hawk as well as many other raptors all seemed to be 'skittish' and difficult to capture...I got a few...:)

On my return home I had quite a shock when my hard drive containing all my thousands of pictures had crashed. Lucky for me everything was backed up on my external back-up drive. Thanks to my husband I'm now up and running with a new 2 terabyte hard drive.

Thanks for your visit and comments...I'll be catching up!

The Los Angeles Philharmonic has collaborated with media artist Refik Anadol @refikanadol to celebrate our history and explore our future. Using machine learning algorithms, Anadol and his team has developed a unique machine intelligence approach to the LA Phil digital archives – 45 terabytes of data. The results are stunning visualizations for WDCH Dreams, a project that is both a week-long public art installation projected onto the building’s exterior skin and a season-long immersive exhibition inside, in the Ira Gershwin Gallery.

At the end of the show Thursday night I had the opportunity to talk with its creator Refik Anadol he was very generous with his time and explained some of the history of this extraordinary project.

Yeah, it's crazy to think that five years ago (and about five days, I think) I made this account and posted my first photo. Unfortunately now it's deleted and gone, but I remember it was a Batman Arkham Riddler concept art figure that probably had a cane that was a rip off of Billbobful's cane thing. I kinda blame old Flickr for making me delete it, because if you were lucky enough to be here a few years ago they had a limit to how many photos that someone that was not you could see on your stream. So me being an idiot deleted a ton of my first photos and like every one of my old GCW photos. Those are gone now, but whatever. Now they give you a terabyte of space and I've now got 2000 photos on my stream (all of which you can view).

So now for a few honorable mentions of friends and things. These are in no particular order of importance (except Tin7 being at the top) mainly because I don't want to do that.

Tin7: I mention this about every anniversary, but it needs to be said I think. Tin7 was the reason I got on Flickr in the first place. He posted some figs and I happened to see them. I thought "I could do that" and started a Flickr and posted some of my figures.

Zack (Legoman685): As I mention, he was my first friend on this site and has been a friend ever since. Even though we don't talk that much anymore, I still consider him a friend. Also, without him, Pink-Man wouldn't exist.

The MC/DCSG group: I'm going to group y'all together because that'd be a lot of writing and I don't want to forget anyone. This is without a doubt the best group I've been a part of, and I'm glad I joined it even though it might not have been the most popular thing to do at the time. Y'all have given me a lot of inspiration, support, and great friendships on this site that I am extremely grateful for.

You: Even if you didn't get mentioned (I know there are a lot more people I could thank specifically) for your support over these past 5 years. Whether you began following me this year or in past years, thank you. Without your support I don't think I could still be on here.

THANK YOU! :D

Netherlands, Rotterdam, one side of the artwork “Horn of Plenty” on the 117 mtr long & 11 floors high tunnel-ceiling of the “Markthal” or “Koopboog”. The inside of the building, covering the market hall, is adorned with an 11.000 m2 artwork by Arno Coenen, named Hoorn des Overvloeds”, horn of plenty.

The windows in the ceiling are apartment windows which cannot be opened & are soundproofed.

The football area-sized indoor market area is an experience with100 fresh produce sellers with fresh fish, meat, vegetable stalls, delicatessens flowers & plants, 15 food shops & 8 restaurants, …a great place for foodies

A little slipped there, sort of how I feel after a week of budgets for the new fiscal year. I am ready for some time to think about something besides Terabytes and Gigabits and how many ports does it have and is it one rack unit high and will it fit in our racks or our budget? The mushrooms around the area are magnificent this spring/early summer, surging up in lawns, rotting old wood away, and in general being fungi.

Happy Sliders Sunday!

When its Winter time, some people become kids - playing in the snow, take terabytes of pics, express and share, possibly only on fb, their happiness. There are the others - who become more skeptical because of that. Anyway. Whether She matches the description or not.. I wish you to Feel complete in the Solitude that covers us all from time to time. Complete not because of things or person u have around. Complete because of your inner Peace:)

Trinity College Library in Dublin, Ireland

I've been absent for awhile trying to finish all our vacation pictures. I'm done to the last day of vacation; some 775 images to sort through and process. I've also run out of hard drive space (2 terabyte) and have got my early Christmas present of 8 terabyte drives sitting on my desk to install. I hope to be back again as soon as I finish these pictures. By the way, this was hand held since they don't allow tripods in the library.

Happy Holidays to all.

What a great way to go into the New Year....feeling mellow:)

I promised myself to go through all of my terabytes of external hard-drives...and this is one what I really liked....

Well, I've got to go back working on one of my New Year’s resolutions...lol

I hope those effects are allowed :3

The lamp actually lights up.

On his first day of work in the library,Timothy Paperback had to sort returned books back into the shelves. When he arrived at the lat shelve, he realized, that it was completely full, but he still had one book left over. He tried to push in the Book with brute force, which made the Books stacked on top of the shelf fall off and onto his head. This accident made him go insane. Now known as “Page” he roams the city and breaks into Buildings, constantly looking for new Information.

Also, excuse the shitty photo, I was a bit tired while editing XD

I woke up before sunrise purposely to take this shot when I were staying at The Gurney in Penang recently.

I'm trying to revisit all the previous places that I have shot as I have lost 2 years worth of photos when my Maxtor OneTouch III 1 Terabytes external HDD crashed recently and Seagate Data Recovery, Japan wanted to charge me USD3,900 to recover the files. WTF! Whatever you do... don't buy a Maxtor!!!

Hello everyone, this is my long awaited Cyber Sushi MOC, a cyberpunk custom build that I worked on throughout 2018 and early 2019. The concept is basically a sushi restaurant located on top of four large pillars in the middle of a cyberpunk city district with smaller buildings. If I recall correctly I was inspired to do this by some Ninjago Movie concept art or just cyberpunk concept art in general which I consume by the terabytes. I personally loved this MOC and it was one of my biggest accomplishments of the era, it doesn't have any motorized functions but it does include a battery box with lighting for the interior as well as color-changing RGBs in the front glass window which can be seen in the following video. Some of you might already be familiar with it because I did do a full walkthrough on my YouTube channel which you can check out here youtu.be/YpBEzlLBm1s

I'm glad I can finally share the photos with all of you, and I hope you like it! I plan on writing individual captions and details for each photo but since I'm uploading a huge batch it'll take some time to write but stay tuned for more MOCs as well as a big announcement that I'm making soon. I'm so happy to be back in the community after all these years and I want to contribute more creations to the global LEGO Moc community.

Long Live LEGO!
