Tensegrity is a structural-relationship principle in which structural shape is guaranteed by the finitely closed, comprehensively continuous, tensional behaviors of the system and not by the discontinuous and exclusively local compression member behaviors. Tensegrity provides the ability to yield increasingly without ultimately breaking or coming asunder" This system seems to be an apt metaphor for the relationship of citizens to law enforcement.
While steel rods are used to work through the composition designs of these works, the final works may employ wires connections to emphasize the tensional relationship of the elements.

Did not realise that it was A Wolf Moon when I took this. Missed the sunset so went for a walk over it for the 1st time. The walk was a bore but when viewed from different angles it becomes interesting.
A public competition was held to decide on a new name for the bridge.
On the 23rd November 2008 it was announced that the winning entry was Kurilpa Bridge.
The name reflects the Australian Aboriginal word for the South Brisbane and West End area, and means "place for water rats".
The Kurilpa Bridge is a multiple-mast, cable-stay structure based on principles of tensegrity producing a synergy between balanced tension and compression components to create a light structure that is incredibly strong.
The bridge is 470m long with a main span of 120m and features two large viewing and relaxation platforms, two rest areas, and a continuous all-weather canopy for the entire length of the bridge. A canopy is supported by a secondary tensegrity structure. It is estimated that 550 tons of structural steel including 6.8 km of spiral strand cable are incorporated into the bridge.
The bridge is lit with a sophisticated LED lighting system which can be programmed to produce an array of different lighting effects. Depending on lighting configurations, 75%-100% of the power required is provided by solar energy.

Tried my hand at making a custom tensegrity structure MOC. I modeled it after the final scene in Revenge of the Sith where Anakin and Obi-Wan are dueling on Mustafar. Funny enough, the main reason for the theming is because I only had two long chains and one of them was orange from Ghostrider's minifig haha so it made sense to make it lava themed / Mustafar themed.

Tensegrity structures are structures based on the combination of a few simple but subtle and deep design patterns:
* loading members only in pure compression or pure tension, meaning the structure will only fail if the cables yield or the rods buckle (the rods would have to be an exceptionally weak material with a very large diameter to yield before they buckle or the cables yield)
* preload, which allows cables to be rigid in compression
* minimal overconstraint which reduces stress localization
* mechanical stability, which allows the members to remain in tension/compression as stress on the structure increases
Because of these patterns, no members experience a bending moment. This produces exceptionally rigid structures for their mass and for their cross section.
