I decided to share this image for the upcoming #macromondays theme called #plastic

What you see is the flexible plastic Handle of a Toothbrush.

A toothbrush is a small, handheld tool designed for cleaning teeth, gums, and tongue. It typically consists of two main parts:

Handle – The long, often ergonomically shaped part you hold. It can be made of plastic, bamboo, or other materials, and may include grips or rubber sections for better control.

Head – The top part that holds bristles, which are the fine, flexible strands used to scrub the teeth. The bristles are usually made of nylon and are arranged in rows. They can vary in texture (soft, medium, or hard) depending on user preference and dental needs.

A toothbrush is a common oral hygiene tool used primarily for cleaning teeth and gums. Here are several use cases for a toothbrush, categorized by purpose:

Primary Use Case

Daily Dental Hygiene

Function: Removes food particles, plaque, and bacteria from teeth and gums.

Frequency: Recommended twice daily.

Tools Used: Manual or electric toothbrush with fluoride toothpaste.

Secondary/Additional Use Cases

Tongue Cleaning

Some toothbrushes have a textured back for cleaning the tongue to reduce bad breath.

Braces/Orthodontic Care

Special brushes (e.g., orthodontic toothbrushes or interdental brushes) are used to clean around brackets and wires.

Denture Cleaning

Denture-specific toothbrushes are used for cleaning artificial teeth.

Gum Stimulation

Gentle brushing massages gums and can improve circulation and gum health.

Non-Oral Use Cases (Unconventional but Common)

Cleaning Small or Delicate Items

Electronics (keyboards, camera lenses)

Jewelry

Hard-to-reach corners in household objects

Beauty and Grooming

Eyebrow grooming

Hair dye application in small areas

Exfoliating lips or dry skin spots

Art and Crafts

Texturing paint or clay

Cleaning small parts of tools or models

Cleaning teeth,Kolkata,India

Think about it! Tongues. Human tongues taste, help masticate, clean one's teeth. But sticky Frog Tongues like my own are hinged at the front; they do those same things, and more importantly: in a split second we flop them out to catch our daily prey. We'd die of hunger without one.

And then the Bumblebee tongue: what an interesting organ. Like a supple sword it's contained within a long sheath and draws out to 'lick' at the end of its protection. That tongue is hairy and has tiny pores; yes, it's used for licking but more for absorbing the nectar it finds, and its stickiness helps in gathering pollen. Without it, Bumblebees - and for that matter other bees as well - would go hungry and die. Moreover, Bumblebees use their tongues as sensory receptors for many other things, too.

You can imagine that such a sensillan instrument needs good maintenance. So regularly Bees take time out from foraging to clean their tongues so as to remain sensitive to their environment of pollinating and nectaring flowers.

Here's a Bombus hortorum, a Garden Bumblebee, doing just that with its front legs. You can see the brown-purple protective sheath and just the tip of the tongue itself. Yes, it's long too: in this Bumblebee about 2 cm.

We went to two parks this morning instead of eating breakfast because today is cyst removal and teeth cleaning. Neither of us ate breakfast because who could eat with this very pensive face watching and how do you tell a dog why they can't have food or water?

We'll update you tomorrow.

Quinn and Jaspurr are back home after having their teeth cleaned.

Jasp had one loose tooth that was pulled bottom small one.

No antibiotics needed. They are both a bit groggy but fine.

JASPURR pic further down in comments. Thank you all.

Lousy iphone pic.

Not a voyeur, these are my children taken on holiday in Norfolk.

I'm discovering the downside of falling way behind on this project, even if briefly. I was looking for a photo from April 1st last week, and couldn't figure out why I couldn't find anything, so I uploaded a pink flower photo I took with my phone on that day, but was perplexed and dissatisfied.

Yesterday, I remembered we went to the dentist that day and I brought my camera, I think I was inspired by seeing a photo from the dentist by Jenny or someone else. So I took a look through all my memory cards (twice) and finally found them (bad photo management). Here is one of the few that were okay. His teeth were clean, all was good and I am almost caught up. #92/366

Up close and personal at my dental appointment.

March 21, 2007

I have a terrible fear of the dentist and even hate going for regular cleanings but I had to go and have it done since I broke a piece off one of my teeth. I had no idea what to to do for the "Enter at your own Risk" category for the March Monthly Scavenger hunt and then this came up and decided to enter this mainly due to my paranoia about visiting the dentist. Tooth was fixed and teeth cleaned all at the same time. Hurray only one appointment this time.

Our Dentist will explain in detail your medical procedure, this ensures the best customer satisfaction by any dentist in the Tijuana-San Diego area.

Dentophobia-Fear of dentists. At an early and impressionable age, I saw Dustin Hoffman in "Marathon Man." The torture scene in the beginning of the movie is profoundly horrible--it is a dentist doing the torture and he uses dental tools on Dustin Hoffman--please, parents, do NOT let your children see that until at least they are legal to drive!

Then again, kids so so much violence and other horrible stuff, they're probably not as impressionable as I was/am... I grew up without TV and still don't watch it. (I am a complete cinephile, though--I would love to go the movies every single day.)

Anyway... "Marathon Man" scarred me.

Probably the time I got my wisdom teeth extracted without general anesthesia (just novacaine that wore off) probably didn't help, either.

This was the upper floor of the my new dentist office. Looks more like a hair salon eh? Very light and airy and white. I liked it.

Dental visits aren't just for cavities and #teethcleaning anymore. During a check-up, your dental hygienist and dentist assess the overall health of your mouth and gums. #Brushing and #flossing are key to your #dentalhealth. So is choosing the right dental coverage. While dental insurance doesn’t command the attention that medical insurance does, it also can have significant implications for your pocketbook. You know exactly what I mean if you have the most common type of health insurance (more on that later) and have ever needed a procedure such as a crown or root canal.

Do my dental benefits roll over from year to year?

While the end of the year is typically busy for most, it is worthwhile to make an appointment to see your dentist. At the end of the year, your dental insurance benefits will expire. If you haven’t been to the dentist much this year, it may be a good time to schedule a few appointments and make use of the benefits you’re paying for. Dental #procedures can be expensive, even with insurance. You don’t want to be spending more than you have to for dental procedures. Using your insurance by the end of the year can save you hundreds of dollars or more. Most insurance plans run on a calendar year vs. a fiscal year. At the end of #December, the benefits you have attached to your dental insurance plan are lost. By making appointments before the end of the year, you can save a significant amount of money.

Because #insurance companies make money from people who don’t use their benefits, most are not actively telling their clients to use their insurance by the end of the year. Many times, insurance companies count on these clients to let their benefits go unused. Insurance pays out an annual maximum that costs them money every year. When patients don’t use up their yearly maximum when they need it, the insurance company doesn’t have to pay that money. Be sure to check with your insurance company to know what benefits you have remaining and try to use them by the end of the year.

How can I maximize my dental benefits before the year is over?

If you need more extensive dental treatments involving multiple visits, the end of the year is the perfect time to get started. This is especially true if you’ve already met your deductible and haven’t hit your annual maximum. Once your deductible is paid, your out-of-pocket expenses can decrease dramatically, making it an ideal situation for larger dental treatments. If you’re getting close to your annual maximum, your Forney dentist can help create a plan to maximize your #benefits by splitting your #treatment between this year and next, allowing you to use the benefits you have remaining this year and take advantage of your renewed benefits after the new year.

What are some of the procedures that will use my dental benefits?

Dental procedures covered by insurance policies are typically grouped into three categories of coverage: preventive, basic and major. Most dental plans cover 100% of preventive care such as annual or semi-annual office visits for cleaning, X-rays and sealants. Basic procedures are treatment for gum disease, extractions, fillings, and root canals, with deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance determining the patient’s out-of-pocket expenses. Most policies cover 70% to 80% of these procedures, with patients paying the remainder. Major procedures such as crowns, bridges, inlays and dentures are typically only covered at a high co-payment, with the patient paying more out-of-pocket expenses than other procedures. Every policy differs in how procedures are categorized as preventive, basic and major, so it is important to understand what is covered when comparing policies. Some policies group root canals as major procedures, while others treat them as basic procedures and cover much more of the cost.
