One way to spend a cold rainy evening.
For the techies: I wasn't too sure how to set this one up - this was the fourth camera angle I tried. I started off much closer and higher, and gradually worked my way wider and lower, using a large piece of black card as a background.
The flash was to the right, about a foot away and a couple of inches higher than the water and was set to tight beam (105mm). Triggered by Nikon SU-800.
I didn't realise it at the time, but the bowl is slighly transparent - hence the inner glow.

I admire so much that quality about loved and loving dogs. Not a care in the world. Fender is my daily reminder to appreciate all the little things, because those are the things we often end up missing the most, and wishing we could get them back. Every trip to the creek is cherished with Fender; every stick thrown and retrieved and dropped sopping wet on your shoes. In fact, just forget about your shoes, and wade right out in the water with them... I promise you won't regret it- well I never have anyways.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Macro Mondays ~ On the Inside
My old pedometer couldn't be revived, so before seeing the inside of the trash bin I pried it open and was quite amazed with the color, pattern and techie look to it. Photographing it with many different backgrounds it still looked flat with out any depth, so I turned over a collander, put a few colored tea lights underneath and it all came together.

While not strictly pointed in the direction of Silicon Valley (which is to the left), you see here a view of the San Francisco Bay from Monument Peak. I was cleaning out my hard drive and stumbled on a few gems. I did previously post this, but I resisted cropping it the way I wanted to because, well Flickr and other sites were making a mess of panoramic images. 500px will still mess this up, but at least Facebook and Flickr can now do panoramic justice. So here you are... the way it was intended to be viewed. You can see the original shot here: www.flickr.com/photos/9761798@N03/5717023642

Curly and long-haired, Chrissy flashes a smile while in her favorite environment--southwestern Florida!
For the techies, here's how the image was created. Silver Efex Pro (one of the Photoshop/Lightroom plugins in the Google Nik Collection) rendered a truly monochrome version (unfortunately, Google has decided not to support it any longer, which is very disappointing). I then used a gradient filter on the left edge (because it was distractingly bright) by following jedingtonmcc's instructions at youtube.com/watch?v=G56Qwaes0_0. The high contrast and details in Chrissy's hair were created using Calvin's technique (he calls it "freaky details") shown on youtube.com/watch?v=vr12ZfPK2co. A subtle amount of dodging and burning was also applied to her face.

You may well ask what on earth am I doing sat in front of an over a 20 years old DELL laptop?
For days I've been frustrated by not being able to copy my extensive audio files from Apple Music to a USB stick.
I've done everything I could think of and researched extensively including a consult with an Apple employee. I've failed and failed again.
Finally by trial and error I've found a solution that works.
Said DELL is running Linux and I used it both to format the stick but more importantly to delete all the ._* files which Apple insists on creating for every single file I copied. This files are invisible from the Mac systems.
Arghhh!
PS - in case you're curious as to why did I want to have my music available outside from my computers - from where via bluetooth or Apple's Airplay 2 I could stream it easily? I have two devices that can act as Music Servers that is, without the need to have the computer on.

The number of dogs living in the neighborhood exploded exponentially during the SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2)/COVID-19 lockdowns. Northern California is fido-country, and high-techies suddenly able to work from home hightailed south, where lofty salaries ($296,000 median at Google) made buying or renting in San Diego comparably affordable for San Francisco-area escapees. Can we send them back?
How many mutts can one person, or couple, own? Gotta ask because I see fewer people walking one dog and many more leashing two, three, or more—and that’s without tallying the overall increased numbers. Not surprisingly, doggy decorum demands harassing cats; do these NorCal migrants simply not know better because they lack feline finesse or are they merely amused letting their beasts taunt kitties?
That long-winded introduction leads us to this troubled tabby trying to chill down after a hot encounter with some dude and his yappy runt. When my wife and I came upon the scene, only the leash kept the mutt from attacking—and not by much. Meanwhile, the defender had assumed the arched-back scaredy-cat posture. Oh, and, yeah, fido’s master reveled in the taunts as he let the animal advance as the tabby retreated.
We stood watching for perhaps 15 seconds, and I should have said something. But maybe my demeanor and presence were enough, because he suddenly pulled back the leash and walked away with his straining-to-return runt. The cat calmed, briefly moving towards Annie, and I snapped three shots. This portrait is the second. Location: In the alley separating Campus and North.
Need I even explain why nickname Defender?

Welcome to the Roaring Twenties! Home of Prohibition, Chicago gangsters, speakeasies, and fappers, I mean flappers. Sorry, remember, the King is writing this on a typewriter, which means that he cannot backspace like all you techies out there. And to make it worse, Windows made the King upgrade a few weeks ago to Windows 10 and it is just a pain in the dookie maker to move around the typewriter. Yeah, that's right, Windows on a typewriter. What, you think the King is lying about his awesome typewriter? He's a King, which means that he can do whatever he wants. So this was written on Flickr on the Internet on the Geebeege Truck King's typewriter. You don't believe the King, and you get roasted as an immature right on an open fire. Mmmm, can't you just imagine that smoky flavor of them immatures? Maybe the King will go hunting for one after this post.
Anyway, this geebeege truck is a 1920 Mack Model AC. At this point, Mack was about a quarter way done with production of the AC, which means it would stop releasing this model by 1928. Man, you're probably tired of seeing so many pictures of the Model AC's, but this is history, people. And isn't this particular picture cool? Seriously, when was the last time you saw a geebeege truck train? Unless you're at least 90 years old, never. The closest you'd get is a Heil Starr, but those are barely around these days. You know, the King's college roommate Bobby Cortez's cousin Paco DeSoto learned English from this old man who jumped the border and rode by freight train to the South Bay in California once. Here's his story.
So, Paco grew up in a Spanish speaking village somewhere in Mexico. Of course, not much is known about his family except that he has at least one brother, Pueblo DeSoto. Nope, that's not the King making a mistake on his typewriter, Pueblo is his name-o. The King's heard that Paco's parents were smoking that grass when Senora DeSoto went into labor, and she was so baked from the weed and so tired from delivering the kid that when the doctor gave her the birth certificate, she wrote Pueblo instead of Pablo. Hilarious! And since Pueblo was pretty much conceived smoking that Mary Jane, all he ever does is eat triple stuffed chicken quesadillas and drink tequila. That weed sure gets you hungry fast! You know the Girl Scouts of America came up with this genius idea of standing in front of weed shops, trying to sell their cookies to potheads coming in and out of the shops. Only, those stoners don't buy them, because they already spent all their money on smoking weed! Maybe they could save their money if the King hires some people to stand in front of the weed shops and sell roasted pigs, chicken, and immatures! Drugs are trash. Roasted game from the King is not. Simple logic there.
Anyway, Paco did go to school at one time to learn some English and stuff, but he did so badly that he decided to drop out of third grade at the age of 18 and sell drugs for Mari-Trade for Rancho (If you don't know Rancho, you gotta brush up on your studies of the Evolution of the Kingdom). But Paco had a really hard time selling to some people because a good number of them were American tourists who were tricked by Bobby and his fake travel agency. Remember, that's where Bobby got loaded off of tricking people into a paradise getaway, only to send them to Paco's village! Man, Bobby sure is intelligent for a druggie! So Paco went to this old man to learn English in order to sell drugs to American tourists. The old man has made numerous attempts to jump the border for a better living. He finally succeeded about 30 years ago when he starved himself thin enough to fit in between the bars and became a stowaway on a train headed to the Port of Long Beach in Southern California. There, he got a job eating people's leftovers at a family restaurant. Got chased out many times by the owners of that restaurant for some reason, and had to compete with pigeons and seagulls eating people's food that they threw out. Man, The King knows how he must've felt. The King was a trash scavenger, remember? Read about it here: www.flickr.com/photos/143155628@N02/28554039355/in/photos...
Anyway, he learned English after a few years, and even formed full sentences, like, "Get the hell out of my restaurant!" or, "Hey! I'm still eating that!" or, "Why don't you get out of this joint and eat some tacos instead!" Stuff like that. And he hopped back on the freight train and tried to slide through the bars, only he had gotten so fat from eating people's leftovers that he got stuck. When the Border Patrol found him, they couldn't even get him out, so they had to saw out the bars to take him into customs. Luckily they let him go, since he was trying to run back into Mexico. Still has the border imprints along the center of his body from getting stuck. Glad he's OK, and taught Paco English!
Border jumping and leftovers aside, this Mack Model AC geebeege truck train didn't actually go on route like this. Those horses were still employed by the 1920's, and they had their own trailers to pull around. When filled, they would meet the geebeege truck to drop off the full trailer and pick up an empty one and go back on route. Funny, you'd think those geebeege horses would take forever to finish their route, but guess they could go another couple rounds in a day. No wonder they were used until the 1950's! Strong asses they were. No wait, a strong ass is a donkey, or a cute girl's rear end. Would be nice to have a Geebeege Truck Queen with one of those!
The techies are doing some maintenance to the color bubbles machine. No one knows what is the machine for or what it means for them but it is always working and perfectly adjusted.
I came across this beautiful signal when on holiday with the family, and chasing the odd Scarborough Spa Express. Located between York and Scarborough, it was very tall to enhance long-distance sighting and a remarkable survivor from the pre-1923 era. It was clearly in good condition and cherished by the staff. Remarkably, it lasted until 1988 when the area was resignalled.
Techy stuff: taken with an OM2 on Kodachrome, with a polarising filter which turned the sky a lovely dark blue, and I have lightened so that it sits more comfortably with the other pictures.

We arrived in Pamplona late in the evening. The town had an eerie feel to it. Not quiet as such, but there was something about the atmosphere that felt different. Every single person we saw was dressed in white and red. The five of us friends travelling together felt very out of place indeed.
During the planning of our 2010 Eurotrip we decided that we wanted to experience the famous running of the bulls. We knew little about the festival itself but knew that the best way to experience the event was to place ourselves right in the middle of it.
What made this night more unique was the fact that it was the FIFA World Cup final, which Spain were partipating in and ended up of course being champions. The moment that final whistle went, Pamplona exploded.
Hundreds of thousands of people in huge streams came pouring out of every single road the eye could see. Every man woman and child was dressed not in a Spanish footbal shirt but rather the traditional colours of the festival. The town square became a dancefloor, literally.
I can't even say what we saw was organised chaos. It was something I have never experienced before and because of the freak occurence of the double whammy being the last night of the running of the bulls festival and the World Cup final, I'll never see again.
Rubbish was scattered everywhere. In some places it meant wading though. We saw fighting, bleeding, fucking, pissing, loving, dancing and comatosed Spanish morons everywhere. Being essentially an English tourist, even I was shocked at how insane the night became.
By 1AM we realised that nobody in this town was sleeping tonight so we decided to stay up and join in with the fun. Instead of drinking though, I took photos. Over the next few weeks I'll go through some of the best and hopefully make a nice set to remember the evening of chaos.

Spent most of today wrestling with music technology and getting to know my new software. For the techy-minded I’m running Pre-Sonus Studio 4 Artist Edition with external VST support add-on so that I can run Guitar Rig 5. I imported a bunch of old WAV files and put some guitar and vocals on top as a way of working some of the intricacies of the software out. Nothing fit for public consumption yet, but I’m setting myself the target of recording at least one song a month next year so that I end up with an album’s worth.
