I took all these pics through the closed patio window , so I apologise for the lack of techy expertise - ha ha - did me best didn't I? There's something called 'Fade correction' in my PSP software that always seems to correct the lacking colour contrast and works a treat when my pics are taken through said window.
I have mentioned before that sometimes the results can be rather unpredictable , but I love to experiment with it on my indoor stuff too ....

Photography is a way of painting and itโs up to you to fill the images with soul and make them tell a story. You can be as โtechyโ as you like, but youโll only be able to touch others if you see with your heart. Itโs also by leaving your comfort zone that you will grow as a human and as a photographer.
One of the groups I'm in had the subject of a "shallow depth of field" for the weekly theme.
I'd never tried for a shot with a S.D.F before and if I've ever done it, then it's been an accident.
For those techy minded and in the know - have I done it in this photo?

A while ago I had fun taking pics of a pin balanced on rainbow-coloured paper. This is a black & white version .... probably not 'processed' all that well, but I hope the overall artistic and lighting effects will counter any techy objections !!
The Missouri is the longest river in North America, rising in the western Rocky Mountains of Montana and then flowing over 2,300 miles to St. Louis where it joins the Mississippi River. We were near Boonville, settled by Nathan and Daniel Morgan Boone, sons of the famous frontiersman Daniel Boone.
[for techies, this is 3-images stitched together in Photoshop]
Well.
It's been quite the move, hasn't it. One platform to another.
As with all moves, a lot of stress.
Both for we who were moved....and for the movers. I would guess the techies have been working round the clock. Thank you Team Techies.
And, as with all new homes, I expect there will be things that don't work and need to be fixed, but for now we seem finally to have arrived.
I'm going to be taking a short break....going to see my friend in Boston in a few days and I've some things to do first.
But thought I would drop off a bouquet of flowers for a housewarming gift.
I wish us all many many fine years together in our new home.
It's Memorial Day Weekend here.
To our veterans who gave their lives......we remember you, we will always remember you.
Have a good weekend all. And a nice week ahead.
I decided to take myself out of my comfort zone 'go-to choice' for tools which would have been rusty, gritty shots and upgrade to something more 'techy' in look. The smallest tool I could think of was the tiny SIM tray opening too supplied with iPhones. They are made from a patented metal called 'LiquidMetal' and is made of a mix of titanium, nickel, copper, and zirconium.
Main issue shooting this was to keep it fingerprint free, which I failed to achieve after a few attempts. Shot literally on an iPhone, not with.
A shot from a few years ago that didn't make the cut at the time, in part because I struggled to deal with some of the highlights. Roll on a few years and these things are a bit easier to handle for non-techies like me.
With the trees beginning to turn in earnest, Colas Tug no. 60021 crosses Lydgate Viaduct with the 9.40am Preston Docks - Lindsey Refinery (6E32) discharged bitumen tanks. The hour-later departure on this day was a help and put more of the valley in sunlight.
It might look a little muted but I've attempted to present it so the highlights and colours aren't burnt out when viewed full-screen.
Commenting off, thanks.

3rd October 2021 :
Got out for a walk this morning and glad that I did, it's now pouring with rain.
Wasn't out for long, but the light was lovely, so I made the most of it.
Today is : Global Smoothie Day - nationaldaycalendar.com/global-smoothie-day-october-3/
But, I made flapjacks. ๐
And for the Silly News it's : National Techies Day - nationaldaycalendar.com/national-techies-day-october-3/
I shall be offline this evening.

The Milky Way in spring is just back in season for us, meaning the core rises into view after a winter hiatus. It's also very flat to the horizon, as you can see here, and follows closely my rock pile of choice. You might see Disney's Goofy character on the lookout atop that mid-frame namesake Joshua tree. At least I did...Joshua Tree National Park.
For the techies, I used just one LED panel to light my foreground.

These speedy little rascals regrettably displaced all "my" lovely Eastern Bluebirds which were preparing to nest in these very same boxes.
Back on April 12, 2020 I came here and found several Bluebirds going in and out of the boxes and saw no Swallows (you can see some photos of these beautiful Bluebirds in previous posts in this gallery). A few days later I saw only half the number of Bluebirds and several Swallows. A week later there was only one lone Bluebird left, and finally there were none. Hopefully, they found good homes elsewhere. Ah, such is nature.
In the end, I decided to simply enjoy these delicate little speed demons for their own sake, but my goodness they sure are hard to photograph!
(For the photo-techies: thankfully I had the aperture cranked up to f9 so that the depth of field was deep enough to get both birds in focus... a lucky break).
Snapped this at a friends sim. Its a beautifully done place. I'm not techy enough to link the slurl but the name is sunbird. Go check it out.
Taken the first of November. . . most of the leaves have come down in the last two weeks. . .
Techies: our mini Sony DSC-HX60, f16 for 1/30 of a second.
A rather unimaginative entry into this weeks Macro Mondays theme which is Complementary colours, so this is purple and yellow.
Played around with paints and glitters and all sorts of weird things, but sometimes the simplest ideas work the best.
Question for all you techies out there. Shot taken at 100 ISO, f20, 0.8s and on a tripod but I am still getting a fair bit of noise and not managing to get pin sharp. The lens is a Sigma art lens so should be a good piece of glass. Am I doing something wrong or am I just expecting too much from my kit?

The biggest security risk in any system is the user.
"Hundreds of Westminster insiders were added to - and then deleted from - a WhatsApp group set up by shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick to promote his London Marathon run".
In this day and age there should be minimum level of competence with technology to gain access to any position of power or trust, (especially after the U.S "signal app" fiasco).
(As we old techies used to say the problem is "BTKAC" between the keyboard and chair).
The BBC has been told Jenrick is not referring himself to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), which investigates data breaches. (What a surprise!).
Something completely different to my norm - my son's newly acquired car/ pick-up - a Ford Fairlane Ranchero from 1967.
it was imported into UK about a year ago from California -currently mostly in its original condition [ rust included ]. no problem for my son cos he's a mechanic. The question is how much more to restore ?
Techy details : originally 289 cubic inch v8 engine but now has a 302 engine. 1967 was its only Ford production year. Is it a car or is it a truck? Nicknamed 'a Gentleman's Pick-Up'.
Of course, I haven't a clue about all this techy stuff, but I can really appreciate it's beauty - well, it took my breath away when I saw it!
PS - sorry about the halo ! Very bright day.....

SL Community Celebration is upon us once again honoring our communityโs 12th birthday year! Doors will open June 21 through June 28, 2015.
โWhat Dreams May Comeโ is this yearโs theme! As I have been building there and flying around shooting photos for the SL12B Guide, I am more than impressed with everyoneโs envision of this topic which touches us all in a melody of motifs!
We all love the multitude of fantasy faires, themed events, unique and different installment builds along with visiting sims where the creator has peak elements of techy concoctions to present! So, when we visit any of the SL Community Birthday Celebrations, strolling along the sidewalks or riding the pod, we spend hours upon hours filling our eyes, cameras and mind with the most imaginative inventions where the Creatorโs dreams came alive!
This is an event where you will find Continued

I've been thinking about doing a little more old school photography and doing some shooting with film. Having owned 2 or 3 Minolta film SLR's in my slightly younger days I decided to try and find a good example of one of these cameras.
This is what I came up with, a little used and in excellent condition Minolta Alpha 7 Limited from 2001, also sold in some markets as the Dynax or Maxxum 7. The one I owned originally wasn't the Limited edition like this but the differences weren't great between the two. It features a larger internal film data memory, a slightly more refined finish of the exterior and golden-colored labels and trim.
One of the last high end SLR's produced by Minolta before the change to digital technology took over and it's probably about as close to a DSLR as you'll find in a film SLR!
This is quite a good review if you want to read more of the camera's features and techy bits n' pieces: www.35mmc.com/10/07/2020/minolta-dynax-7-review/

Here is the capture I took of this techy apple, but here taken at shallow depth of field at f/4 versus the original post below at f/11.
Preferences ????
This has to be one of my favourite Damselfly photos Iโve taken this season.
โIn the Spotlightโ
Laying in the wet grass is becoming a very familiar pastime photographing these dainty little Damselflies. I may take up yoga with all the peculiar contorted body shapes I create to frame a shot. Itโs not exactly a cool Vogue โStrike a Poseโ moment.โโ๏ธ
Iโm very happy with the way this one turned out.
*The timing, precision and patience is so important to achieve an image like this and the enjoyment of course*
Techy info.
Controlling the exposure was tricky shooting directly into the sun with the limitations of the camera shooting at 1/8000s at iso50. Unexpectedly the damselfly actually flapped itโs wings at high speed for a split second. I was able to capture them without blurring because of such a high shutter speed. I must admit I was lucky๐ because I wouldnโt normally shoot a still object with these settings but was forced to in such bright light trying to control the exposure.
The image on the screen of the camera looked very overexposed but itโs amazing the detail you can recover shooting in raw format. In post processing I moved the highlights slider all the way to the left and the wings surprisingly appeared. I looked at the sequence of shots hoping for one with splashes of dew flying off the hovering wings. Now that would have been special!

Well this is one of the most enjoyable Frenchie builds we have done in a while. Albert's B1 is a well designed, techy beast of a tank. I was pleasantly surprised with how complicated it was internally. Makes it all the better!! Austin saw Albert's camo version, so he changed the file to have the camo version as well before rendering it. As always Albert, thanks for sharing. BTW, we voted for the Somua next. :)

Well until the computer comes back from the techy folk it is the lap top and a few really old shots unless I can get out with the camera - more likely the former though .
Well this shot is from Far Sawrey looking northwards in the direction of Ambleside and then onto Kirkstone Pass .

When life hits you hard, you swing harder. I did, but it kind of swung back harder on me. I finally had the motivation to go out and shoot something today. I was happy with the results, but didn't realize that my camera was set to jpeg until I got home... What a joke!

100/365. This is one hundred days
You "must" see the stunning detail
Today celebrates the 100th day of my 365 project. It's somewhat of a milestone for me, so I figured I would put in just a tad more effort (which of course involved the stubby. Considering I lugged ALL this stuff outside was more than a miracle.
Nevertheless, as much as I'd love to ramble, reminisce, and ponder about my personal journey through the 365... let's just say it's not over. Cheers to 265 more days!

Another shot from a different vantage point of that cracker sunset almost 2 weeks ago on the famous Great Ocean Road. Still being glad I didn't pack up and go by the look of the initial conditions.
For the techies: Blend of 3 exposures, one underexposure for the sky, one overexposure for the sea stacks and one normal exposure. All blended and post processed in the car park of the 12 Apostles Visitor Center ;)

It is always fun to meet up with friends made here on Flickr and go out shooting. Bill McIntosh is one of those friends. I met Bill several years ago and his passion for landscape photography is infectious!! It is always SO much fun to meet up with him and share stories and good times while capturing the grandness Mother Nature offers.
Techy Info; 2 1/2 hour drive to the Dolly Sods Wilderness area, Bear Rocks to be specific. 55 degrees, winds blowing about 20mph. We waited out several rain showers, and there were lightning storms all around before it finally cleared out at 1:30ish am. Nikon D800, Rokinon 14mm f/2.8.
Set in the peaceful Wiltshire countryside beside a lake, Old Wardour Castle, near Tisbury was once one of the most daring and innovative homes in Britain. It was built in the 14th century as a lightly fortified luxury residence for comfortable living and lavish entertainment.
Old Wardourโs eventful past and the fighting it saw during the Civil War. The badly damaged castle became a fashionable romantic ruin, and in the 18th century was incorporated into the landscaped grounds of the New Wardour House

This Photo was created for the SoS Theme "Made of Leather". Leather's like "2nd Skin", that is our bodies just seem to have a natural affinity to leather. We want things we touch made from it. ... And it IS skin ... from kindred creatures that co-habit our planet.
It should be no surprise that the first item I purchased after getting my phone companion a couple years ago was a leather shell. In my case it had to be natural and un-tinted so when it came it was the brightest of beiges! It did not take more than a couple weeks for it to "color" with handling and today, just like scars on my old body it has a record of every bump and bruise. It's companion that is often found in my pocket is a key fob with my initial in a shape that continually reminds me of the days when I wore western boots.
I hope this brings a Smite on This Saturday. Thanks up front for your views, Favs and Comments. HSoS!

Here's another photo from that fruitful trip to Crantock last month. So if you love Crantock, keep an eye out for more posts. And if you just can't stand this beach, please bear with me haha!
As I wandered the dunes looking for pathways to lead the eye into the frame, I stopped to instead take this shot overlooking the bay. It's not my usual style, but I was drawn to the colour of the sky reflecting in the wet sand.
Techy stuff: Wherever possible I like to keep my ISO fixed on 100 to optimise image quality. With the camera on a tripod, low light isn't often a problem as the shutter can stay open for a few seconds if needed. But here, the rushes in the foreground were blowing in the wind - requiring the ISO to be dialled up to 400 for a faster shutter speed to "freeze" the rushes. There's a little motion blur to some which I think I can get away with :)
