Behold! My latest custom creation for the Scorpion. The next step towards the Sinister Six.
This proved to be quite the challenge compared to Lego's design and other fellow figglers. I used several inspired concepts from some comic books and video games to form this villain.
After a couple trial and errors, I chose this helmet. The chin strap kind of had a resemblance to the mandibles of the arachnid, in a high techy kind of way.
It's almost finished. I'm painting the helmet and the claws to match up with the suit. The tail may also get some tweaking as far as the tip is concerned. I'm super pleased with how this is turning out.
Any feedback is welcome!
Enjoy!
There are quite a few of these colourful geese at the Ifield Mill Pond. I am so fortunate to have this lovely place within walking distance ...
Not the finest of images I know, as my techy skills with this lens isn't that brilliant - however I try to make up with the more 'artistic' skills!
An actress and a model + a very free soul.
For the techy junkies - shot on Canon EOS-R + Canon EF70-200L IS USM II + Profoto B1 and... don't remember the modifier :)

It’s March, snow has fallen and a damp fog shrouds the station at Banbury. A spare loco stands in the bay, little used these days but never abandoned because it's convenient for emergencies and so on. The red light is the signal for the northbound main line to Birmingham. Many years ago when the connection to the Banbury Branch for the GCR's London Extension was in place, this bay was used for the "Banbury Motor", the local service with Woodford & Hinton (later Woodford Halse) and the two small halts along the way. It's a relic of times when Banbury was a very busy junction station.
Best seen large.
Techy stuff: Loco is 25 154 in BR blue livery. March 1981. Ambient light, approximately 30-sec exposure with tripod-mounted OM-2 on Kodachrome. Scanned and green hue from the fluorescent lights reduced slightly.

This slightly unworldly post-processing is an effort to reproduce an effect that I achieved with the Palazzo Pubblico in Siena last year. Unfortunately, I seem not to have kept the intermediate file so I am trying to reproduce it from scratch. Almost there now. For the techies, I basically layer a monochrome copy at 50% and then a coloured copy with the "overlay" blend at about 30%, then adjust the curves. I'll automate most of this once I have it down.
I had no idea i had captured these people like this and the fact that the face is out of focus to me just adds to the depth of meaning in the picture. There is anonymity to what is otherwise a very public display of affection and concern and this shot doesn’t intrude - almost like those times you catch a part of someone else’s personal phone conversation and get the gist but without prying. I don't know what the people were talking about and I just ignored them at the time allowing them to get on with their day but when this one came back from processing I fell in love immediately.
On a techy geeky note I also love the blue cast my vintage lens and Ektar film combo provided. i think of this set as quite timeless in a way.
Sometimes these guys will just wander around and ignore you as you walk by other times they take flight quickly.
Seems like I am always On The Road Again. . . and though I like Willie's song, it was his long time harp player Mickey Raphael that got me blowing tunes. . . I am still learning. . .

I've been meaning to get out and photograph the parks in her winter clothes. I missed the last meetup with Charlotte because I was sick, but I was able to head out last night with the group to meet Matt Pasant. We had a great time hanging out and shooting at our leisure.
Since the techies were getting ready for the monstrous event that is New Years Eve at the Disneyland Resort, they had the castle lit in a lovely lavender with gold highlights. A welcome change from bubblegum pink. The hub was also completely dark, allowing for a silhouetted Walt and Mickey.
I hope all of you have a great time tonight and have a wonderful New Year!

As I was leaving an office yesterday, I noticed this book on a table in the waiting room. At first I thought it was.a new issue of National Geographic magazine. Then I realized it is a book.
Time And Navigation is an unlikely subject for a waiting room. I thought - how wonderful, all the visitors must be techies!!

.
Another round of auroras🌏 (surely you’re not tired of them yet… are you?) I don’t know why we saw so many in the span of a few days, when I barely saw one during my entire first mission, but these last ones came with something extra. As the Moon was high and bright, it lit up the clouds from above, which created a distinct atmosphere… and almost turned the aurora blue. What’s next, Mother Nature? A yellow one? A giant rainbow?🌈 And no, photo techies, the camera balance was set the same as for previous aurora pictures ♂️ An aurora under the full moon, what could be better?

Here is the capture I took of this techy apple, but here taken at shallow depth of field at f/4 versus the original post below at f/11.

From my archives - another of my sometimes fanciful ideas. It may miss the mark when it comes to techy camera stuff , but I hope it passes muster for artistic fun.

📍 Penryn
Here's something a little different from me to break up my coastal stuff...
I was on the way home, driving down Bohelland Rise, when I was presented with a misty view over Penryn. I was seconds from home, so I had to grab my long lens. After shooting a few frames of the town, I turned my attention to the horizon - near the A39.
I was struck by the graphic shapes of these silhouetted trees, and what I imagine is a phone mast (techies please correct me if I'm wrong) - maybe a couple of miles away from where I stood. I also liked the separation as the mist knocked back the more distant forms.
Straight off camera, the colours were a little underwhelming. So I used some artistic licence - and colour graded the crap out of it!
For me, after watching the latest Attenborough documentary on Netflix, this picture tells a story of humans' dominance over nature and our planet. Trees strive to outgrow their neighbours to capture as much sunlight as possible. Yet here, this man made structure dwarfs them all. Watch the documentary - it's an eye opener!

Its been a little while, I have been busy in the gallery over the last couple of months, and haven't had much time. Looking forward to catching up here and I can't wait to get back out shooting again. This is one from earlier this year.

Yay I found my missing photos! thanks to my genius son who 'commandeered my laptop" from his house across town... he was able to see that I had created a new name on a folder that actually created a new folder and got Lightroom all confused...LOL I could NEVER survive this techy world without him!
Although this was shot in RAW, I didn't do anything except crop a bit of overexposed bokeh and added a frame obviously..

Last light of the day down in the valley is marvellous, especially as the field on the left is being tilled again.
Half an hour after the previous picture, the sun is lower and sunset tones are beginning to colour the sky. A Voyager is heading south, its clean metallic lines hugely photogenic. :)
Techy stuff: The 16.36 Newcastle-Reading made up to 5 carriages and right on time.
It's been a little while since my last upload, I have a backlog of images partly processed from this winters trips to finish and should be uploading quite regularly over the spring and summer months
This image was made last week in Fuerteventura, where I was hosting a workshop
One thing that struck me, on reflection, is the vastness of locations like this, it's completely different to my normal situation, where I have defined subjects and quite often limited angles to shoot from, I usually find myself fine tuning compositions. Here the compositions are endless and that in itself is quite daunting.
Anyway some techy info

As a photographer living in the Pacific Northwest, I felt obligated to have at least 1 lighthouse shot! This one was taken at the Northwest corner of Seattle's Discovery Park.
A few of these... Had see reports of an Osprey stopping over at Soudely Ponds &went for a stroll on the off chance. Saw something NOT Buzzard shaped fly over, so scurried round to the other side of the Lake; stood watching with a very silly grin for nearly an hour:) Some of the camera work isn't great - was just a bit excited and could have done with a higher shutter speed - techy stuff went out the window though Doh!
There will be more popping up now and then...

Last of the beach shots I could do something with, so I'll probably call it a day now and embrace autumn.
Explored # 30 :-) creeping up further - Thanks again
Having a quiet sunday morning, watching my list of incomplete tasks fill up!
Maybe the sun will burn off the mist yet? Have a great sunday everyone.

> for the techies: it's a single, hand-held exposure raw file, turned into pseudo HDR by Photomatrix and tonemapped using my special formula. Then post production in Adobe Elements 6 to crop and add a hint of Orton for drama without spoiling the grain.

My children swear by iPhone photography and don't see the need for any other 'gadget'. I was just wondering if you think this is true, or think it is an age thing, or something else and I would be interested to hear your thoughts?
"As far as lens is concerned, both iPhone and DSLRs would have minimal difference in the quality. Settings, thus play a vital role. iPhone uses a bionic processor that allows for faster capturing and processing of images, better low-light autofocus, improved pixel processing and better noise reduction in images."
I leapt out of bed at 7am today and set off for nearby Connaught Waters loaded up with camera and tripod. According to my dear wife, that makes me a "madman". I often think about taking early morning photo excursions, but rarely get round to organising one.
I had the place to myself until around 8am when a few dog-walkers showed up. It's officially winter in London now. The leaves have dropped and there is a thin layer of ice on the lake.
For the techies: This is an HDR made of three shots. All taken at f/22, with shutter speeds of 1.5 seconds, 5 seconds and 20 seconds. Also curves applied in Photoshop to dandy up the contrast and colours a bit.
Detroit Science Center | Midtown | Detroit, MI
Continuing my "study" of Midtown Detroit architecture, I'm 5 shots in and haven't made it off the first building yet. This one is again from the Detroit Science Center, one of the most interesting structures in the city. It's also a great place to visit. I think I have one more to go to wrap up this structure.

P.S. - Good news for fellow X-Pro1 users if you haven't heard; a firmware update is out today that fixes aperture chatter. I'll install it before I go shooting later today and post something on the experience later. The problem never should have come up in the first place for such a potentially awesome camera, but it's really cool that Fuji quickly righted the ship on that one...
