A Life Force Technologies catalog from the mid-1980s. It was a gadget catalog, sort of a forerunner to Sharper Image. If you had $40,000 to spare, you could even buy a personal submarine rated to 300-feet! (Sexy spy girl not included.)

Before the introduction of calculators, we had to carry out mathematical calculations in long hand on paper, use log tables, or slide rules.
This picture shows two slide rules of different size, and a selection of scale rulers used by draughtsmen, the six inch rulers and slide rules with the names of engineering firms on them were often given away as presents at Christmas.
The twelve inch slide rule dates from the 50s and was used for many years in a government office.

1. I am thankful I publish these every week because being and feeling thankful tends to cause me to notice more things .. especially minutes after I hit the publish button! :)
2. I am thankful for Zomboy’s human silhouettes. This One Love is my favourite.
3. I am thankful and relieved for Flickr’s Block user feature because I invoked it and feel safer! :) FORCE FIELD of safety, comfort and good intentions! :)
4. I am thankful for Eleven who has approximately a bazillion wonderful things blooming in her life! YAY for a bazillion wonderful bloomings! I dunno about you but I heart it when lovely, warm hearted people create lovely and fun things in their lives! :)
5. I am thankful that Eleven and some other folks in my life know what I am talking about when I talk about blanket forts! :)
6. I am thankful for having the super power of being able to scan things to pick out the useful parts and just let the other stuff slide off or stay where it was. I think I am thankful for being asked specifically what my super powers are because it is good to think about these things.
7. I am thankful for my reality because it is a heck of a lot of fun! There is much wonder and magic happening here! Oh yeah, there is also silly dancing, singing and laughing. :)
8. I am thankful I finally sat and read Chris Guillibeau’s The Tower because it made me think about towers and my own interaction with towers. Perspective is fascinating and useful. :)
9. I am thankful for Reese Spykerman because she designs/creates ebooks and websites that are more accessible to me and other folks that are more auditory learners.
10. I am thankful for asking The Momster more about her first fun visit to Victoria, BC. She had such a great time with my brother-in-law and his wife. tee hee. This is also very exciting because she is now gwishualizing visiting eastern Canada. I bet she will love it, especially Nova Scotia. I am also thankful I enjoyed the afternoon with the Momster .. it was nice to have a few hours to leisurely enjoy lunch and then do errands. I asked her when we could go photographing together again. We always find the most fascinating things to photograph and interestingly enough we don’t seem to see the “No Trespassing” sign until we are ready to leave! :)
11. I am thankful The Momster was getting a battery from the Battery Depot because it gave me a chance to recycle some batteries I’ve had tucked away to recycle for years! I liked that within seconds of walking in a friendly, knowledgeable guy helped her get exactly what she needed and I got to take photos of the lovely plants hanging in the front window and have a delightful chat about plants with a guy on his break! YAY for good and fun service! :) YAY Battery Depot!! :) Definitely YAY for recycling old batteries! :)
Thank you for you. Love you and your loving ones.

A school of robotics in Ukraine’s conflict- affected town.
Hanna teaches children science in a small town in Ukraine.
“We educate them with design engineering and robotic science, instilling in them knowledge and skills that they can draw on in the future, we also offer English-speaking clubs for children, as well as modern board games that foster logical and strategic thinking”. “My dream was always to open a centre for children.”
With the help of UNDP and the Government of Japan, Hanna opened “ Pozytyv” (‘Positive’) children’s centre. We work hand in hand with people who have ideas to generate a positive impact on society.

ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. -- Armor offers reliable protection against external forces, but what if the enemy is so small that it can take aircraft down from the inside?
Sand and dust can significantly damage helicopter engines, which is why scientists and engineers at the Army Research Laboratory are experimenting with coatings in high-temperature environments with the goal of creating something -- anything -- that will cause sand to slide off the inside of a turbine engine the way an egg slides off a nonstick skillet.
"We are going through a very methodical process to understand the underpinning science and then use the science to predict the materials, what we call the engineered or tailored materials, that will lead to the right solution," explained Dr. Anindya Ghoshal, chief scientist for the laboratory's Vehicle Technology Directorate.
