The reason I believe that this term best describes me is because I am 30 years old like you all know. So I have lived the “Technological Evolution”. When I was a kid no one had cell phones. Does anyone even remember phone numbers anymore? I still remember my home phone number, my families, and my friends from the late ‘80s. Now I couldn’t tell you my wife’s cell phone number without looking at my Motorola Droid Razr Maxx. That is because I have evolved into this new breed of the human race where we can’t go without technology anymore.

I could go on forever with this topic but instead I will spare you from reading a 250 page book and finish with this example of my phrase. This is actually my wife sitting on our fully motorized bed, watching TV on our 55 inch Samsung Flat Screen LED Smart TV, surfing the net on her HP 18 inch Laptop, and listening to iHeart Radio on her matching Motorola Droid Razr Maxx.

Guilherme Marcondes makes electrifying films and animations inspired by the built environment.

His multi-dimensional work seeks to understand how people project their consciousness into their surroundings, especially urban ones, and how these surroundings have an impact upon human behavior, thoughts, dreams and nightmares. Marcondes weaves traditional animation techniques, life-sized puppets and beautiful technological effects into intricate and psychologically intriguing worlds. His work address a core question in science, technology and society studies: what is it like for us, both individually and collectively, to live in a technological world?

At MIT, Marcondes expanded his work into the terrain of video games in a workshop to develop and prototype spatial narratives. His visit provided an opportunity for writers, producers and programmers to work together on simulating a future environment. During a public program at the MIT Museum Marcondes presented a selection of his animations and the results of his workshops at MIT.

Guilherme Marcondes’s residency is presented by the Visiting Artists Program, the MIT Game Lab and the MIT Program in Science, Technology and Society.

Old Technological tools by Apple

I had put together a collage before this one, but for some reason could not bear to complete it. Disturbed, I went instead to this integrated image of dangers unleashed into the world. As death extends technological dangers over a wasted sea, engineers in offices seem to map the complexities of disaster. Hope, in the form of the Buddha’s understanding, adds balance to a dark vision.

I was at a Giant Tiger store earlier this evening, and found this odd T-shirt... and cheesy FM radio. The graphic is also cheesy, as that young boy's hand and radio look like they are both bigger than his face.

Dzata: The Institute of Technological Consciousness is an artistic research project by South African artists Russel Hlongwane, Francois Knoetze and Amy Wilson. In fabricating a fictional institute and its archive, the artists imagine centuries-old vernacular technological practices from across the African continent. The work takes the form of video, a creative-critical text, sculptural masks, costumes and devices, and a youth workshop series.

There is a richer and more diverse technological history than the dominant narrative of invention, development and progress. The artists situate their enquiry at the point at which the social, the cultural, the spiritual, the political intersect.
