This is Bothello 2, my second attempt at an Othello-playing robot. Based on parts from the 51515 Mindstorms Robot Inventor: a hub, two medium motors, and a light sensor. Learn more and see it in action

The board has 36 rollers that can rotate to represent empty (green) positions or black or white disks. Each roller is connected through a gear plate to a separate axle sticking out of one side of the board. A cart uses a motor to travel along the axles. With another motor, it pushes select axles to make the corresponding rollers rotate to white. I've programmed a very basic minimax optimization routine for it to come up with a decent move.
At the end of each turn, the cart to flip a switch to mark that it's the human's turn. It then waits for you to make your move and flip it back. That's the signal for it to map out the new state of the board by scanning the positions of all axles with the light sensor.
The actuation is a bit hit and miss, and will be my top priority to improve if I ever get to a Bothello 3. Other than that, it all works very well.
