The EVPL Techies designed the Tower Bot for the VEX Novice Robotics Competition at Ivy Tech (March 2012). Pictured above is the challenge, where students had to place blocks at different heights using their robots.
The library has hosted a December networking event with Princeton Tech Meetup for five years as a way to bring together local entrepreneurs, techies, and creatives. This year we decided to expand the event to include Code for Princeton and the newly formed Princeton Design Thinkers to further enhance the collaboration between these groups with similar aims and goals. One Thursday December 15th we had approximately 100 people show up to enjoy a wonderful buffet, create connections, and hear comments from the leaders of each group. Liz Lempert, one of the founders of Code for Princeton along with librarian Janie Hermann and a frequent guest of Princeton Tech Meetup, attended the event and spoke to those assembled. The response to this event was extremely positive and we are looking to add a summer networking event to the calendar.
On Sunday 2/6 some of our youth trainers presented a new iPad and iPad Mini purchased with Pozible campaign funds to two of our unsuspecting Senior Techies!
They were completely surprised and very overwhelmed by their new devices.
We delivered them fully set up and within a few minutes Margaret was using it to email her friend and Noel was looking at the Sunday paper digital edition.
Both seniors recorded a short thank you videos and you can view them on our Senior Techie YouTube channel here youtu.be/4LhvwgwTN5I and here youtu.be/dktbgyK5kTQ
We currently have 7 new seniors training events at a planning phase, dates and details will be published on our website - www.seniortechies.com.au in due course.
In the meantime we would love it if you like our facebook page at www.facebook.com/seniortechies for all the latest news and future events.
I was invited once more by James Browning of Niche Productions to shoot one of his events - this time US hiphop star Ohmega Watts playing in Sydney.

Two Nikon SB-800 strobes, set to manual and fired remotely using CLS. The freezer bags were to protect from the torrential rain - £1.79 for a pack of 25 from Waitrose, highly recommended ;)

During NTEN's 2008 Non-profit Technology Conference a group of techies participated in several volunteer projects to bring technology to communities battered by the 2005 Katrina hurricane.
My group, comprised of consultants, non-profit workers, and Cisco Systems, traveled to a community center in St. Bernard Parrish to install wireless access points. St. Bernard Parrish was the hardest hit during the flood - only 6 houses were left standing out of 25,000 when the water rose 25 feet in 23 minutes.
It was an honor to be able to provide some help to this community and I'm grateful for the opportunity to talk with residents and keep the hope and momentum of positive work flowing.
