While thinking of what take for my first picture of the year. I remember declaring at midnight, this wil be a good year. Since I am a techie computers wil be the start until my career as a professional photographer/super /model career takes off.
This is my boy. Both my kids go to the school I teach at and so they are with me in my room until they can go outside, or into their own rooms. Breccan usually gets on the computer, and teaches himself how to send attachment on email, or how to make a slide show. He is definitely interested in the technical side of our world.

I've been playing around with nginx webserver, just managed to coax 10000 requests a second out of it. On my laptop. With a load of 0.04 according to top. For comparison, apache managed ~5000 with a load of 0.79. The next job is figuring out how to get more than 11 pages a second from wordpress on fastcgi php …
I'm currently undergoing techie trauma...my Toshiba laptop (with thousands of photos) has the "black screen kiss of death spiral," the cover door to the battery/memory card slot on the Panasonic broke off; the Epson printer's new favorite color is magenta/blue; the Nikon Auto Focus works only when it's in the mood!
The good news is that I still had my old HP laptop and discovered some of these old photos I'd forgotten about.

The area around my office never ceases to amaze me. I was heading off for a planned touristy architecture shot and found lots of outside broadcast vans only 100 yards from the office. I'm used to finding them outside the Royal Courts of Justice whenever major personalities are divorcing or in court but not where I found them today.
They were outside a different Court building to report for TV news on a major court decision relating to land contamination and babies born with birth defects. The families had just been interviewed for the lunchtime news slots, showing their joy at winning the case.
This techie was only too happy to be the subject of my daily photo.
(So I can save my architecture shot for another day. Why is it that some days you really struggle for a shot of the day, and then they come along like buses - 4 in a row! Today I had 6 or 7 in the camera to choose from.)
In the process of adding a touchscreen to my ASUS eeePC. The controller board is squeezed into the left hand side, below the speaker. The touchscreen itself is simply placed over the existing LCD and then aligned. Squeezing the touchscreen in required a little bit of hacking around to prevent any bulging of the front bezel. The wiring around the controller board was changed slightly after this shot, also to prevent any bulging.

YouTubeTV $40 per month - YouTubeTV gives you access to CBS, Fox, NBC and ESPN but just like with Hulu with Live TV, there is no NFL Network.

The owner of this laptop was told by a techie in the IT department at the University where they worked that the hard drive needed replacing because it had failed. Because it was a bit old and the cost of replacing it they decided to buy a new laptop, believing that they had lost everything on the old unit. WRONG!!! With the aid of a Hiren's BootCD and windows built in rescue program I managed not only to get the drive usable but also get the "last known configuration" up and running without loosing "any" files.
