It's amazing to watch the Great Blue Herons as they choose a nesting site, a mate and start building their nest together. Usually the female guards their site, the male finds the material and they both arrange it on the nest.

I'm back in the archives. I have great respect for the crew--cancer survivors and their supporters--of Johanna's Joy, the racing shell that pracitces in Morro Bay Harbor. This was taken from a boat during the MB Bird Festival. I like the intensity of the paddlers in contrast to the momentary blase look of the coxswain.
Teamwork is needed to get the stubborn switch thrown to the siding.

Precision teamwork is called for at the Oskova washery discharge point where the driver of the 1948-built ex-Yugoslavian Railways 760mm 0-8-2 No. 83.158 carefully positions the side discharge wagons over the discharge hopper, one wagon at a time. The operator in the foreground is releasing the door latches with a pick and the younger operator behind is fastening the latches on the doors after the discharged wagon is moved forward from the hopper. A 'prodder' ensures that there is no blockage on the conveyor belt beneath. This mainly steam-hauled operation goes on around the clock 24/7 except for equipment maintenance and unforeseen breakdowns within the coal preparation plant, which seem to occur quite regularly.
