Maj. Gen. Francis Evon, The Adjutant General, Connecticut; Command Sgt. Maj. Roger Sicard, State Command Sergeant Major; and Chief Warrant Officer 5 Brian Erkson, Command Chief Warrant Officer, recognize Task Force Iron Gray Soldiers for their hard work and achievements during the task forceâs mobilization to the Horn of Africa during a visit to Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, Nov. 24-26, 2021.

During the visit, which occurred over the Thanksgiving holiday, the Connecticut National Guard's senior leaders awarded several Task Force Iron Gray Soldiers with impact coins for going above and beyond their duty to service. Select Task Force Iron Gray Soldiers also had the opportunity to enjoy Thanksgiving lunch and dinner with the senior leaders.

Although the majority of Task Force Iron Gray derives from the Connecticut Army National Guard, units from Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, and Vermont are also represented. Maj. Gen. Evon visited each Task Force Iron Gray unit on both Camp Lemonnier and Chabelly Airfield, Djibouti, for a mission set brief and tour of each companyâs command post, and to meet with Soldiers.

More than 30 women serving with Armed Forces Djibouti, Gendamerie, Republican Guard, National Police and Djiboutian Coast Guard joined U.S., Japanese, Italian, Spanish and Kenyan leaders for the inaugural Women in Security Symposium in Djibouti City, Djibouti, Sept. 22, 2021. As part of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Women, Peace and Security initiative, the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF-HOA) hosted the event to allow Djiboutian military and partner forces women to strengthen partnerships through open conversation and knowledge sharing. The symposium focused on the incorporation of a gender perspective into peace and security, and helped promote the empowerment of women in achieving security. The Women, Peace and Security initiative seeks to highlight the value of diversity and promotes women's meaningful participation across the development, management and employment in armed forces. The initiative aims to work with partner nations to see women meaningfully participate in serving all ranks, and in all occupations in defense and security sectors. It emphasizes the importance of ensuring women and girls around the world are safe and secure, and that their human rights are protected, especially during conflict and crisis. Something completely different.

This is a picture from my late Fathers collection.

It was taken during the 2nd World War,somewhere in Egypt.

Dad was a driver in the RAF and had to position a number of vehicles for photographic records.

I have often wondered about showing them as they are in effect the property of the RAF,or MoD,or the Gov even.

Well it was along time ago and it seems a shame not to air them ,so this is the first.

If i am not incarcerated for breaking the official secrets act, or accused of being a traitor for revealing our latest military vehicles to the eyes of the enemy. (them Germans), i shall, the Gods willing, post a few more .

Soldiers from the Sandston-based Company E, 2nd Battalion, 224th Aviation Regiment and the Virginia National Guard Counterdrug Task Force assist Drug Enforcement Administration agents with loading more than 15,000 pounds of unwanted and expired prescription drugs for transport to Northern Virginia to be destroyed Nov. 1, 2013. The drugs were collected during the DEA's National Take-Back Initiative held Oct. 26, and this was the seventh time the Virginia Guard provided support for the mission. In addition to assisting with DEA's effort to get dangerous drugs out of communities, the Soldiers from Company E also gained experience conducting transportation operations in an urban environment. Avon volunteers responded to a call for a structure fire at 32 Brian Lane and arrived to find an attached garage of a large single family dwelling showing heavy smoke and fire. With the fire starting to overtake the attic space and threatening the whole structure the Task Force 54 Mutual Aid Plan was put into effect bringing apparatus and man power fro the surrounding towns of Simsbury, Glastonbury, and Farmington in to work and cover. Though the residents out of the house, fire fighters had to rescue the family dog and a large macaw parrot early on. With the house clear of occupants interior crews aggressively attacked the fire and contained it to the garage and living space above it and the attic and second floor of the main house. The stubborn fire would take over an hour to bring under control with the structure sustaining heavy damage even though crews put a tremendous effort into the stop. The fire marshal was on the scene and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Rocket...the dark side.

Rocket's energy level is very high, so despite the long walks, he sometimes ricochets off the walls shortly after we get home. I can't always walk him for four to five hours as he would like, and limit his walk to an hour or two as I would with a dog on a schedule.

When he hasn't had enough outdoor exercise time, he gets antsy and drives me nuts running up and down the walls in this small apartment, so I play with him. He LOVES wands, so we have several of them and "wand play", it seems, helps to discharge his battery.

I discovered the "wand aggression" sometime ago when I introduced a second wand at he same time he held the first one. While in this video he may seem disturbed, he really isn't. He's "spent" after several minutes into this style of "play"; is totally relaxed afterward and does not redirect the wand aggression toward me; I can stop at any time and pick him up without a problem, but it helps tremendously to unwind him if he doesn't get enough time outside.
