I probably enjoy photographing modern art more than I actually appreciate it. This spiral is new, it is called Tårarna, The Tears. Made by Birgitta Burling. You can find it at Norra bantorget.
Another cool spot in Bladen County. When I drove past this spot going to my in-laws in November, I made a note to stop back here on the way back home. Well, I drove right past it on that trip. Today, as I was driving back from my in-laws, I made sure not to miss it this time.
While I was taking pictures of it, I noticed a sign in front of the house by the tree. It is partially covered in vines, but if I blow it up, it says, "Smithfield Foods, Inc Engineering......" and then I can't read the rest. Right across the street from this is the largest pork processing plant IN THE WORLD, which is owned by Smithfield Foods in Tar Heel, NC. They obviously don't use this house anymore, and I'm having trouble determining the age of it, as the property tax records for this land shows four buildings on it, including a heath care center built in the 2000s that is just down the road (Smithfield Foods owns about 90 acres here that back up to the Cape Fear River). If I'm reading the information of the Bladen County GIS website correctly, this house could have been built in 1946. Either way, I think it is a lovely house, and it is deep and a lot bigger than it looks from the front. Shame that no one is using it.

Wonderful scent of tar in this open boat house at the museum.
The boat in the roof is equipped with skids to provide use when the ice neither carries nor breaks, facilitated for people living on the islands of the archipelago to travel during spring and autumn in the old days.
