This is a regular market where Jeblia women come into town from the country in traditional dress and hats that have remained unchanged over the years. "No phone, no pool, no pets, I ain't got no cigarettes..." The Lyrics to King of the Road come to mind when thinking of Tangier. On an island with a year-round population of about 500, it's a laid back and tranquil pace of life with a unique dialect.
Tangier Rappahannock Cruises whisked us from Buzzard Point Marina to Tangier Island late in the morning of May 14, 2016. We rented a golf cart to get around the island since there are no vehicles. I used a Canon GPS Receiver GP-E2 to track points along the route as best I could.
These are the shacks that the watermen on Tangier moor their boats to. They have tanks in the back for peeler crabs to molt their shells in. When they're finished molting they're frozen and sold as soft-shell crabs. Don't molt, Mr. Crab, your life depends on it!

The medina, the top attraction of Tangier, is a labyrinth of alleyways both commercial and residential. It's contained by the walls of a 15th-century Portuguese fortress, although most buildings are actually relatively young for a Moroccan medina.
