Tangier Rappahannock Cruises whisked us from Buzzard Point Marina to Tangier Island late in the morning of May 14, 2016. We rented a golf cart to get around the island since there are no vehicles. I used a Canon GPS Receiver GP-E2 to track points along the route as best I could.
I don't read Arabic....I am curious to know what the sign says....this was taken in a flophouse hotel lobby.....can anyone translate?

The edifice is also known as the Spanish Cathedral (Catedral Española), being the only exponent in the locality of the Spanish modernist architecture of the second half of the twentieth century in Morocco.

The cathedral was inaugurated in 1961. It was designed and built with modern architectural techniques, following classic proportions by the architect Luis MartÃnez-Feduchi Ruiz.
In the cathedral's apse, stained glass windows designed by the Alicante artist Arcadio Blasco stand out. They constitute one of the main attractions of the cathedral.
The remains of Father José MarÃa Lerchundi, missionary in Morocco for more than thirty years, rest in an underground crypt under the church.

on my second afternoon wandering the Medina in Tangier i came across a groom and his family & friends taking part in a pre wedding ritual where the groom walked a young bull through the medina to much fanfare, music & dance. The bull was then slaughtered and people rubbed some of the bulls blood onto their bodies. I followed this procession for nearly an hour taking photos.
I loved the medina in Tangier. There was so much to see and shoot. People working with their hands were everywhere. Textiles are a big business here.

Tangier Island is in the Chesapeake Bay. It is part of Virginia.
The island was discovered by John Smith in 1608. It was settled in the 1770's.
At one time, there were 1500 residents on the island. Today, there are about 400.
Because of sea level rise, approximately 67% of the island has disappeared since 1850. Its expected that within 50 years, the island will be gone.
On October 1, 2021, Judy and I took a ferry from Onancock, VA, to the island.

This located on a small island in the Chesapeake Bay (Tangier Island Virginia) The island is inhabited by a few hundred people that make their living on the water. They have a very different dialect You can find several recordings on YouTube of the folks talking.

Tragically one of the island's preeminent watermen, Ed Charnock passed away when the Henrietta C. sank off the coast of Tangier on April 24, 2017.

The Cine Alacazar near the old medina of Tangier opened as a theatre in 1913 and was converted into a cinema five years later. It was seen in Bernardo Bertolucci's 1990 film The Sheltering Sky and later fell into near dereliction. It has recently been fully restored.
