Wireless & Tangible Interactive Media in the era of the Internet Of Shit!? (1st edition)
Session Leader: Cedric Honnet
The Triangle Fire Open Museum is the tangible incarnation of the online Triangle Fire Open Archive, which explores the personal, political and historical legacy of the Triangle Fire through community-contributed objects. The Open Museum shows real and replica objects from the Open Archive in locations across the city that critically connect to issues of immigrant, women’s and labor rights.
The museum is being launched at the NYU Open House from March 20-March 25, and will then make its way out into the city to its initial eight host sites.
Take a self-guided tour to find all the objects around the city starting March 30, 2012!
Find objects from the Open Museum around the city at our host institutions:
The Tenement Museum; The City Reliquary; The New York City Fire Museum; Workers United : Local 169; Museum of Chinese in America; The Murphy Center, CUNY; The Center for Jewish History; and The Neighborhood Preservation Center

Walking past our present version of human culture certainly requires some courage.
And it also requires a tangible positive alternative.
Is there anything really that out of place with the status quo?
Global dynamics like climate change, economic collapse and nuclear holocaust aside, aren’t we doing better than any other version of humanity?
The yogi understands the answer to that question greatly depends on how deeply we look at ourselves.
On the outside, at least at a glance, someone could think that human beings today are the cream of the crop - after all we have mobile broadband, intoxication, sports and hookups on tap anytime anyplace - which should add up to progress. Advancement. Happiness!
Looking deeper, though, we start to see the reality.
While externally things can sometimes appear better than they have been, internally - at our core - we’re empty, depleted of genuine relationships and the satisfaction they bring.
The truth hurts, as they say.
How did we get here?
While focusing almost exclusively on the outer world we’ve drastically neglected the inner, and the results are catastrophic in terms of our moment to moment happiness experience, and that of future generations.
But don’t despair.
The Bhakti wisdom culture provides a genuine alternative for every member of human society, regardless of their external situation, to independently elevate themselves to real happiness, to real pleasure.
It all begins with seriously considering,
“Am I my body, or am I something else?”

Koert van Mensvoort is on a mission. A philosophical mission even, and one that is easily translated into tangible projects. Koert is the founder and ambassador of Next Nature, a vision of the co-evolution of man, nature and technology that leads to a new reality. In the world of Next Nature, nature itself is no longer chaotic or uncontrollable while technology is no longer organised and purely man-made. It is more the other way round. Against this background, Van Mensvoort will launch the first employment agency for humans and robots, HUBOT, at this year’s DDW. The agency, set up in collaboration with Eindhoven municipality and Start Foundation, has its office in the Media Markt. There is no doubt that the rise of drone drivers, VR mechanics and the eight-armed Shiva multi-masseur is drastically changing the labour market. Next Nature doesn’t fear this development though, after all: who says that robots can’t generate new jobs and employment? Perhaps humans and robots can actually enhance each other’s performance and who knows: over time they might even create a new species that we can easily coexist with?

This participatory art installation was commissioned by Canada's Governor General and CODE for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
People were given a piece of paper and a pen and asked:
What is your contribution to peace?
The paper was then folded like a maple seed, a small led was taped to it and sent up in the air through a 25m tube.
As days went by more an more seeds created a giant magical cloud of translucent paper and pulsing lights that showed how every contribution is needed to achieve something big.
Beautiful music composed by Tom Pettapiece.

If signs, are totemic, tangible, written, then they string things together. Creation is not speech but a mix. Entities are not based on categories but connections. The light is not a philosophical zombie's enigma but what is and things are made of stories, not atoms.

The Physical Visualization consists of layered 2D plots, in which the x axis represents energy sources, the y axis countries and the z axis (layers) time. Each data case is represented by a cutted square in the respective acrylic glass layer.
