Some talkshow hosts were claiming on the television that the protests in Madison, Wisconsin were on the verge of turning violent.
This could not be further from the truth. In fact, in Madison we have the nicest protesters you could ever hope to meet.

Note that in all of these statements the Madison Police Department thanks the protesters for their civility and decorum.

CAPITOL SQUARE PROTESTS
STREET CLOSURES
For the second day, a very large crowd has gathered in and around the State Capitol. Much, if not all, of the Capitol Square is being shut down to traffic in order to accommodate throngs of protesters. The Madison Police Department (MPD) would like to thank protesters for their decorum, and would urge everyone to continue to remain peaceful. MPD officers will continue to help protesters to safely move about the downtown, and dialog between protesters and officers has been very positive. "Our job is to create an environment for a democracy to take place," said Chief Noble Wray. Capitol Police are not allowing signs attached to sticks to be brought inside the Capitol, but those without sticks are okay. Protesters are asked to leave signs attached to sticks outside of the building. Motorists should be advised that there will likely be delays around the downtown area.

MPD Urges Continued Civility & Decorum
By all indications, Thursday could mark the largest mass demonstrations - thus far - this week. Starting at 10:30 a.m., it appears UW students, and others, will march from campus to the Capitol, up State Street. This will likely cause streets crossing State Street to be closed for periods of time. In addition, there are contingency plans to shut down all or part of the Capitol Square to traffic, depending of crowd size. The Madison Police Department (MPD) is proud of the way protesters have conducted themselves, and Chief Noble Wray hopes all will continue to exercise civility and decorum. Once again, Capitol Police are asking people to keep signs attached to sticks outside of State Capitol, as they will not be allowed inside. Motorists should be advised that there will likely be delays around the downtown area.

COLLECTIVE BARGAINING PROTESTS
Downtown Traffic Flow Interruptions Anticipated Again
Large numbers of protesters are likely to gather around the State Capitol again today, and the Madison Police Department (MPD) is ready to assist in keeping everyone safe. Traffic interruptions are likely as demonstrators move to the Capitol Square. Contingency plans remain in place to close all or parts of the Square, depending on crowd levels. The MPD continues to commend the behavior of those who have gathered to peacefully protest. MPD officers have made no arrests this week, and have encountered no problems outside of the State Capitol.

Organised by UN Women, Fiji Women's Rights Movement, UNICEF and the UN Office for the Human Rights Commissioner (UN OHCHR), the film festival included nine award-winning short and feature films over five nights. It was part of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.

To commemorate this year’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work on the 28th of April, the ILO is organizing an interactive discussion in Jakarta on safe work for youth, raising public awareness, particularly on the part of Indonesian young workers themselves. The event will include a radio talkshow on key actions that employers, government authorities, and young workers themselves can take to proactively promote a culture of prevention.
