Another one from my recent visit to Sussex Prairie Garden. When I take a break for refreshments there, I don't put my camera away because I always find something new to photograph. As much as anything, I'm probably just making the most of a little precious shade, if I'm honest. :)
We are heading off to Norway on Saturday and by means of a variety of boats and trains we will get up into Artic Norway. I have always wanted to experience the Midnight Sun though I guess that means no images of Sunsets.
These gulls are flying East in the background you can see Whitby Abbey

Fantastic camera for birding
The bottom half of the image had very bright distractions that I removed. On some monitors you will see strange effects around the lower branch. Oops, edit fail.

Taking the cable car up from Beatenberg, Switzerland, gives some amazing views that are really impossible to capture. We were given a wonderful mix of clouds and landscape, with some scattered thunder and lightening to punctuate the scene.
Love this place!
Have a great week!

When we play with her in the backyard she will stop when she gets tired and take a rest until she catches her breath.
I swear this is a Great Blue Heron, although they are not listed as a species of the Pantanal in my reference booklet. There is a Cocoi Heron which looks similar, but this had that distinct blue color. Either way, I thought the light was beautiful, and it reminded me of home, although the environment is significantly different!
A young falcon, which i'm thinking is a juvenile Peregrine but not sure, watches a group of shorebirds very closely from a high perch. When the time is right it will swoop down, using its tremendous speed to take down it's prey.
Burnham Prairie, Cook County IL.
. . . Slough Branch, Grand Union Canal, Slough, England. I rode my bicycle past this spot several times on my way to Windsor when I lived and worked for a short time in Uxbridge. The canal here was always teeming with fishermen on one side and narrowboats on the other. It's a refuge below the street level of the city and its traffic.
Yesterday was a horrible day. While overcast, the temperature climbed steadily along with windy conditions leading to the hottest day for 12 years.(since 2014) according to the ABC. A state of emergency has been declared after multiple fires were ripping through the state.
Staying under cover was so important for humans and wildlife, though we are yet to know the overall death toll (3 missing) and damage to land and property.
The air is smoky here in Melbourne this morning with clouds, wind and lightning storms overnight.
I really don't know how the emergency services people manage and the wonderful CFA volunteers.
Power and phone services are also non-operable in some affected areas.
On a brighter note - the cooler weather has arrived giving some days to recover. But not enough rain to impact the fires raging out of control.

Up north Queensland, a tropical low possible Cyclone is threatening large dumps of rain with probable flooding. I hope people keep safe there as well.

My daughter Jamie and I were driving in the Smoky Mountains enjoying the beautiful views. We were getting tired and decided to “Take A Break”. We came across this isolated stream. We sat with feet in the cool water and to enjoy the moment. It was a great day and many pictures were taken. I enjoy taking candid shots such as this one. Thanks for viewing my photos. Comments are optional and have a great day everyday.
It was a sunny day, and the Queen Elizabeth Park rose garden called. I don't know most of the flower species names, but they sure are pretty!
It was sitting very nicely on the balcony rail and took off as I hit the shutter. It's only about the 2nd or 3rd time I've caught a bird in flight!
Maybe better viewed large and thank you for your favourites.
Awake at night
Have we reached the end?
I'm taking flight
Was this all pretend?
I think I might
Wake up when I'm dead
I felt the light
Drift into my head
Oh, let's settle down
I was falling for you, babe
I better leave before I drown, and
Oh
I got drunk on your love
But I'm feeling sober now
Knock knock on the door
I've been here before
All my demons take control
I just stare at the floor
You don't know me
You don't know me
This lady had been working hard on the nearby building site and was taking just a brief respite between physical jobs
Crossing the river Dart.
A riverboat goes up the river full over tourists. Dartmouth was very different from Goodrington and Paignton. There were lots of tourists on the boats and in the streets.
It's not the sort of fluffy seal image I normally like to take, but I liked the combination of the bokeh caused by the sun illuminating the pebbles in the foreground, and the backlit effect of the seal shaking off the sand. I also feel there was something universal about the seal reaching up to take in the emerging light.
An iconic Rain forest amphibian the Red-eyed Tree Frog has evolved to have bright colors and markings to alarm there predators. The encounter was brief but good. Costa Rica.
I first saw these brown Chinese geese (anser cygnoides) wandering along a beach on the island of Pangkor, in Malaysia. They spent a bit of time looking out to sea from close to the breaking waves, then made their way to a nearby freshwater stream. I thought the algal bloom in the water looked most unappetising - but they were all happy to take a drink from it..
