This is Sylvester.
Today is a sad day. The primary woman with whom I've been working in regards to feeding and watching over this feral colony has passed on.
I met Connie about eighteen or so months ago, when I came across her feeding the same cats I had taken to feeding at this small wood.
We talked about the cats and ourselves a bit and opted to split the week up so we each only had to be out there 3 or 4 days each week.
Unfortunately, Connie suffered a stroke back in late November and while it didn't appear to hurt her too much (more physically than mentally), she could no longer come by to help on a weekly basis.
After being unable to help at all for a few months she finally returned to duty once every weekend.
She truly missed the cats as she had been feeding them herself for a few years. She had even taken in Scarlet at one time, trying to make her a house cat, which didn't go well.
As she had been unable to come out as much as she would have liked I had been printing the pictures I took of the ferals and getting them to her so that she would feel closer to them. From what I had gathered over the months was that she had few friends and no family in the area. These cats, as well as her own, were pretty much all she had as a family.
I'm certain they will miss you Connie.

CLEARWATER - Sylvester M. Wells, one of the original Florida Highwaymen, will demonstrate his artistic technique and offer a variety of his original works for sale Tuesday, Nov. 28, 4-7 p.m., at the North Greenwood Library, 905 N. MLK Jr. Ave.
Wells is one of the African American Florida artists that emerged in the late 1950s creating idyllic, realized images of Florida landscapes, often peddling them from car trunks. They are now recognized as notable American folk artists. The value of Highwaymen paintings has soared in recent years.
