Excerpt from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linton_Apartments:
Linton Apartments (also known as Le Linton) is an apartment building in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is located at 1509 Sherbrooke Street West in the Golden Square Mile neighbourhood of Montreal.
Le Linton was designed by Samuel Arnold Finley and David Jerome Spence. Its construction began in 1907 and the building was completed in 1908. It has 10 floors and is 31.63 metres tall. The building is considered to be of beaux-arts architecture. Its facade is made of terracotta and the ornamentation is made of baked clay.
Montreal's largest apartment building upon completion, the Linton appealed to well-to-do tenants as a substitute for a large house requiring servants, which were becoming increasingly difficult to find, at the time. The building offered such services as a dry cleaner and caterer, and featured such then-modern amenities as an elevator, central heating, electric doorbell, telephone switchboard and dumbwaiter.

Toronto Canada.....I loved this old hotel:)
The Royal York was a state-of-the-art hotel upon completion in 1929, with ten elevators, a radio in each of its 1,048 rooms, and a private shower or bath in each room. Other features included a large Concert Hall fitted with an impressive Casavant Frères pipe organ. With five manuals and 107 stops, it was the largest pipe organ in Canada. The telephone switchboard was 66 feet long and required 35 operators. The hotel was enlarged in 1956-57 with the addition of the east wing to a total of 1,600 rooms and was the largest hotel in the Commonwealth for many years. From 1988 until 1993, the Royal York Hotel underwent a $100 million restoration.
As guests enter the main lobby, they are greeted with nothing but grandeur. The high vaulted ceilings, the warm colour palette of deep reds and golds and the ornate ornamentation all add to this effect. The once fully carpeted lobby has been replaced with a light coloured mosaic tiled floor, but early 20th century styled carpets are still found throughout the building. Big armchairs and couches allow travelers to take in the atmosphere of the lobby while others wait patiently for friends to arrive beside the old railway clock, which is centrally located within the hotel lobby area. The railway clock rises in the middle of a large spiral staircase from the avenue level of the Hotel. The lobby of the Royal York Hotel shimmers with light from large crystal chandeliers and is overlooked by the mezzanine level.
The hotel has been the residence of choice for Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the Canadian Royal Family when in Toronto. The Queen usually has an entire floor reserved for her and her party, occupying the Royal Suite herself.
After Canadian Pacific Hotels acquired Fairmont Hotels and Resorts and chose to use the Fairmont name on all its hotels, there was a public outcry when it was announced that the chain planned to take down the historic “Royal York” sign and replace it with a new “Fairmont” sign. As a result of the protest, a new sign with both names “Fairmont Royal York” was erected.
The PATH underground walkway system connects the hotel to the Royal Bank Plaza and Union Station.
Organic green tea from Japan is the house speciality and is found in every room.

I flashed back to childhood the other day. Not sure what triggered it. I'm never sure. The neurons in my brain connect somehow like an old-fashioned telephone switchboard. And suddenly there I am, mentally teleported to some distant place in time. In this episode I'm about age 12 and my bedroom was being remodeled. Mom said I could choose whatever pattern I liked for the wallpaper. I recall searching through absurdly oversize books contains samples of all sort of wall coverings. They passed by in a blur until I spotted the perfect choice: a Batman motif. I told mom the search was over, this was my pick. She looked at it disapprovingly and tried to steer me to other selections, ones that did not include cartoon characters. But my choice was firm and the decision was final. Some weeks later the new wallpaper went up. It should surprise none that it did not feature the Caped Crusader. It was just some abstract floral pattern that looked just like the wallpaper elsewhere in the house. Mom knows best I guess. My brain circuits cut out at that point and I'm back in the present wondering where the hell that came from. And then I came across this photo from a series I did a couple of years ago. It was never published, then subsequently lost in my recent hard drive crash fiasco. But miraculously it just resurfaced in a group of recovered files. And immediately the connection was made. Just like the Batman wallpaper would have increased the awesomeness of my childhood bedroom, I was absolutely awestruck by the vines in this photo. Love how they snake their way up the wall and across the window panes. There's a drippy, creepy-crawly effect that enhances the look of abandonment. It elevates the dreary to a new plateau, more of a haunted house vibe. I remember staring up at the window at the time, thinking how I couldn't quite believe what I was seeing. Batman lives!
