Isobel was a lovely Scottish district nurse who kept accidentally leaving her scissors at my house. The scissors of the Swiss army knife here provide the somewhat tenuous link to the title . . .

Desert Island

1. What one person would you wish was stranded there with you?

2. What one tool would you want to have?

3. What one food do you wish you would have an unlimited supply of?

4. What one luxury item would you wish for?

5. What one book would you want to have with you to read and re-read?

6. You have one piece of paper, a pencil and one bottle - - who is the message going to be written to?

7. What skill would serve you best while on the island?

8. How long do you think you could last before needing rescue?

9. What one island animal would become your pet?

10. Your island is unknown to you, and you need to give it a name - - what would it be?

11. What would you do to pass the weeks, days, and hours? -

This was my first new pocketknife that my parent's bought me when I was 7 or 8. I used to take it on all my adventures.

Somewhere along the line it got superglue on one scale, which warped and popped off. I found it a few years ago, and then a couple of weeks ago, I was reading the SAK forums on Multitool.org and found a place to get replacement parts...so I decided to do a bit of restoration.

I've made a small piece for a show in London later this year. It's all about MacGuyver, this one.

The design is made up of even fields of colour, so good old collage, using silver and red seemed to work better than the lino.

I spotted this grind stone in a workshop area so I felt I had to make use of it :)

I went to a meeting of U3A group leaders today and after we cleared away there was a mark on the carpet where someone had dropped some food. We tried to wipe it up and I scraped up what was left with my handy penknife :-)

The lino route was not the right thing for this, probably not for the kind of stuff I usually make, it was fun to do it right, having only done it wrong in school as a child.

Auto 110 next to a Victorinox Swiss Army Knife. Almost as small as the knife and nearly as useful! This camera was my cycling camera untli the shutter release went bad. I really miss it.

Another one. Hayo wanted me to try something

Every self respecting man should own a penknife. They are one of the most useful inventions and come in handy for a multitude of things.

This is the one that kicks around my work bag and is mostly used for the screwdriver head on it in fairness and I've had it now for close to 20 years.

Not at all a last minute shot taken because I've been fluffing about installing software on the computer this evening... :)

I was going to do something more creative for this picture, but as you can see, I stupidly cut my thumb. (It's not the worst I've cut myself before with my knife.) I'm not used to having every single implement open at once (which, btw, is NOT a good idea) and the little blade cut me. I'm having a crappy day. My cat has been missing for about a week. It's hot inside my house. There was drama with the kids' mother today. So, what you see is what you get.

As far as the knife goes, it's my favorite. I had one just like it but lost it a few years ago on a farm in Vermont. David bought me this one for my birthday this year. It's a Swiss Army Knife...the best brand, as far as I'm concerned. It fits nicely in my pocket, but I keep it in my purse. You never know when you're going to need a pair of scissors, or a screwdriver, or a leather punch. Ok, well, maybe not the last one. :-)

Got to be a bad guy today during some simuntion training with the local PD. Good times were definitely had.

I was sitting at a table by the entrance to the ASPS convention and there was an old line of sellotape stuck on it - so I tidied it up with my handy penknife :-)

Here I've removed the broken scale prior to fitting the replacement. I'd have had no idea how to do this but there are complete instructions here on YouTube - marvellous :-)

I prefer paper bank statements, though the bank would rather I receive them online. I check them and keep them in a folder but decided to tie the older ones together. I used the auger tool on my Swiss Army Knife to align the holes and the little screwdriver that fits in the corkscrew to poke the string through.

August 18, 2011

So today is another lazy day for A100Tim. While feeding the dog this morning I thought about getting my Knife in the red group. Actually I have been thinking about what kind if shot to do for awhile.

I was going to do a Macro but sometimes they are too boring unless it something interesting like a bug or flower. I know we hardly ever see those in Flickr.

So I added a little grass, and a Low POV and as an added bonus a Charcoal Grill in the background that I was too lazy to move out of the way.

I told you this was a lazy day.

Tomorrow I promise something more interesting.
