It's not much, but it's all we have for a home.

We have all the weapons and ammo we could need out back, so we're not planing on leaving anytime soon.

There have several attempts to take this from us...

...they didn't live long.

Emile deserted his corrupt Austrian spec. ops squad, and hooked up with Izzy an I a few months after it all happened.

Izzy and I were coming up on our third year marriage anniversary, when we were forced from our home in LA...

She's more of a SMG girl, while I took up the roll of team sniper.

Never trust a camera with batteries!

i was having a pretty bad weekend.

i forgot all about the cookie i got with becca.

opened it yesterday, and almost started crying.

i dont believe in fortunes but i thought it was pretty special.

do special things happen to you?

i think if they started making cookies that say

'you're unhappy.' people would believe them a little more.

Nymphalis antiopa - Mourning Cloak

The Mourning Cloak (or Camberwell Beauty in Britain) is one of the few species that overwinters as an imago, or fully developed adult, through cryo-preservation, often by hiding under loose tree bark. Their life-span of nearly a year is among the longest of any butterfly. Their dark color allows them to convert solar thermal energy by basking in early spring sunlight, allowing them to mate earlier than other species. Their camouflage is excellent, and they practice siblicide to decrease competition. Individuals will cluster together, and if threatened by an avian predator, the group will aggressively burst into flight directed straight at the threat.

This is one of the stunning dunes in Namibia. It was taken just after dawn.

Wound on foot and beak - chest feathers quite ruffled & wet.

I hate seeing anything hurting or injured but, this serves as a reminder to me that.....life in the wild is not easy. Providing a little food and/or water may mean survival during tough times - as this Jay is having.

Hope you make it...little one. ♥

- BLUE JAY -

.... is known as a loud and aggressive bird. Its cries are used to warn other birds and animals of danger, but are also often used for no apparent reason. The jay is also known to imitate hawk calls. Its distinctive crest is used as a communication tool to convey the bird’s mood.

Having said that - I still find them incredibly beautiful with an amazing sense of presence. They always take my breath away when they visit the feeder...like this on.

Many thanks for your visits.

Blessings to all....

The hard existence of the Mountain Hare!

A lone lady after a long day in the fields walking back home with a huge load of firewood for the family's kitchen.

I'm sick with a cold. But still I managed to get out to make the picture today. =) I just thought: "Survive it."

Fight for Survival

Today is World Polar Bear Day, an annual event celebrated every February 27 to raise awareness about the conservation status of the polar bear.

Internationally, polar bears are listed as a vulnerable species by the IUCN. The primary conservation concern for polar bears is habitat loss and reduced access to their seal prey due to climate change. Scientists predict that as the Arctic continues to warm, two-thirds of the world's polar bears could disappear within this century. Research also shows that hope remains if action is taken to greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions soon.

But while most people think that global warming is the overhanging threat to polar bear survival, it is actually the continuation of unsustainable hunting pressure that is driving the species towards extinction.

More than 600 (!) bears are killed per year by humans across Canada alone, the vast majority by indigenous Inuit people, a rate calculated by scientists to be unsustainable. Lack of courage and honesty from environmental groups and politicians is allowing this scenario to continue.

Morten Joergensen has written an important book about ALL the threats polar bears are facing, and with very urgent recommendations: Polar Bears on the Edge: Heading for Extinction while Management Fails.

This Blue Arctic Fox managed to capture the unlucky Barnacle Goose Right in front of us, as the snow came down on Smeerenburg.

We did not see this Black Bear take down the deer, but we did hear the last sounds the deer made.

Captured in India along the Mahanadi River in the province of Orissa.
