These people are my people. It's as easy as that. I'm not sure I'll ever have the right, important enough words for what these two mean to me.

They are my daily laughter and sanity and support. They are, very simply, the best friends and humans a girl could ever ask for. ♥

Supporting more than 180 species of local and migratory waterbirds and protected under the international Ramsar wetlands preservation treaty, Thale Noi is Thailand’s largest waterfowl reserve. Birdwatchers are joined by flora enthusiasts looking to glide through pink waterlilies that bloom by the thousands. Locals weave grass mats and fish off stilted platforms, adding splashes of culture to this increasingly popular natural attraction.

The marshy, 450-square-kilometre Thale Noi (Small Lake; also spelt Talay) is the northernmost of the bodies of water that make up Thale Sap (Freshwater Lake), also known as Songkhla Lake. Birdlife is most abundant from November to March, when flocks travel here from as far north as Siberia. From February to April, the birds glide above hot-pink waterlilies amid a brilliant sea of colour.

The heron and stork family is prevalent in Thale Noi, with plumed egrets and purple herons fairly easy to spot. Also well-represented are purple swamp hens that show off their stunning blues, greens and indigos while hopping awkardly from one patch of greenery to the next. Rarer species include the bronze-winged jacana, cotton pygmy goose and the brahminy kite, a handsome thing that looks like a smaller cousin of the bald eagle.

Suarez-Diaz and Solnit were in Olympia for organizing workshops, and to promote Army of None, a new book about truth in military recruiting that Solnit co-authored with Army veteran Aimee Allison.

Photos from maternity photo shoot this morning. They were taken at the Chinese Tea Garden in Brackenridge Park. The beautiful mom-to-be is my eldest daugher...even though I am waaay too young to become a grandma!

On another practically cloudless morning I wanted to get a shot of this rock formation and the still conditions provided a chance for the reflection.

Major landmarks in Kansas City - including Union Station, Marriott Downtown hotel, and the Power and Light Building - are illuminated in the blue and yellow colors of the flag of Ukraine.

This is to show support to the soverign and independent nation of Ukraine, as they are now fighting an invasion from Russia (which started on Thursday 24 February).

Sometimes it pays to look not only more closely at nature's creations, but also at a different perspective. This daisy possesses a carefully "engineered" support structure that turns its face into the sun.

Nearly 70 years ago, my mother had me grab eggs from under angry hens and bring them to our basement where she would clean and pack them into 30 dozen cardboard crates before taking them into a small town grocer who would jack up the prices and sell them to our neighbors. Farmer products today for the most part are tied as closely to the Chinese as they are to their neighbors.

I am a very serious person...

...99.9% of the time.

I despise chickens and all chicken-related things (books, humor, art, etc.). Even the sight or mention of a chicken makes me groan inside. Then why in the world would I choose to build this?

Occasionally, when my mind is tired, not knowing what to think or even why to think, I fall into absurdity. In short, I cave. My seriousness leaves, and in its place stands incoherent gibberish. I embrace what I don't like, even if that means chickens.

So in a way, this creation represents the utter nonsense that can spout forth from a brain that really is not thinking clearly.

Speaking of that, Chicken Little is a story about some foolish young fowl who has a piece of something fall on its head (it may be an acorn, or a leaf, or a raindrop; who knows?). It goes berserk and insists that "The sky is falling!!". Thenceforth Chicken Little makes a huge fuss over it and gathers fellow animals to go warn the ruler of the area. The group meets a sly fox (what other kind of fox would there be?), who convinces the gullible animals that the way to the ruler goes right through the fox's lair. They enter the lair and the fox eats them all. (Or, if you like the other versions better, they escape and warn the ruler, but still turn out to be incorrect about the sky.)

So I think that that image of hysteria is what I've captured in this obnoxious little build. Whenever I feel like blurting out whatever my immediate reaction to my circumstances is, this chicken can remind me to always think before I speak, lest I believe the world will end and thereby fulfill my own prophecy through my own ignorance.

Don't worry, I promise that the next creations I submit will be serious in nature. This one is not a new precedent for me.

This chicken is a bauble-head; it has a technic axle as its neck that would need to be flexible if this were to become a set so that the head could wobble. The wings and tail can flap.

And yes, that is a canoe.
