This is a photograph from the annual The Downs Valentines 5KM and 10KM Dash Road Races and Fun Runs which were held in The Downs, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Sunday 14th February 2016 at 12:00. The races were held as fundraisers for The Downs National School Development Project. The race HQ is The Downs GAA club which is right beside the National School. The Downs is situated half way between Mullingar and Kinnegad on the M4 Motorway with easy access provided by the junction at Thomas Flynn's Ltd (www.google.ie/maps/@53.501005,-7.2357645,17.75z). There was great local support at the race with over 350 participants with runners, joggers, walkers and families taking part. The weather was in contrast to the foggy bitterly cold day of last year - there was pleasant bright spring sunshine with little breeze making it perfect conditions for running.
This photograph is part of a large set of photographs which was taken at the race. The complete set is available on our Flickr page at [https://www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157664477326592]
Timing and Event Management was provided by the new Irish company MyRunResults.com. The results from today's race can be found on their website in the results section [www.myrunresults.com/results.html]

Your mobile, tablet, or desktop device will also offer you several different options for sharing this photo page on your social media outlets.
BUT..... Wait there a minute....
We take these photographs as a hobby and as a contribution to the running community in Ireland. We do not charge for our photographs. Our only "cost" is that we request that if you are using these images: (1) on social media sites such as Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter,LinkedIn, Google+, VK.com, Vine, Meetup, Tagged, Ask.fm,etc or (2) other websites, blogs, web multimedia, commercial/promotional material that you must provide a link back to our Flickr page to attribute us or acknowledge us as the original photographers.
This also extends to the use of these images for Facebook profile pictures. In these cases please make a separate wall or blog post with a link to our Flickr page. If you do not know how this should be done for Facebook or other social media please email us and we will be happy to help suggest how to link to us.
I want to download these pictures to my computer or device?
You can download this photographic image here directly to your computer or device. This version is the low resolution web-quality image. How to download will vary slight from device to device and from browser to browser. Have a look for a down-arrow symbol or the link to 'View/Download' all sizes. When you click on either of these you will be presented with the option to download the image. Remember just doing a right-click and "save target as" will not work on Flickr.
I want get full resolution, print-quality, copies of these photographs?
If you just need these photographs for online usage then they can be used directly once you respect their Creative Commons license and provide a link back to our Flickr set if you use them. For offline usage and printing all of the photographs posted here on this Flickr set are available free, at no cost, at full image resolution.

In summary please remember when requesting photographs from us - If you are using the photographs online all we ask is for you to provide a link back to our Flickr set or Flickr pages. Taking these photographs and preparing them for online posting takes a significant effort and time. We are not posting photographs to Flickr for commercial reasons. If you really like what we do please spread the link around your social media, send us an email, leave a comment beside the photographs, send us a Flickr email, etc. If you are using the photographs in newspapers or magazines we ask that you mention where the original photograph came from.
I would like to contribute something for your photograph(s)?
Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers or in other circumstances we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.
Let's get a bit technical: We use Creative Commons Licensing for these photographs
We use the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License for all our photographs here in this photograph set. What does this mean in reality?
The explaination is very simple.
Attribution- anyone using our photographs gives us an appropriate credit for it. This ensures that people aren't taking our photographs and passing them off as their own. This usually just mean putting a link to our photographs somewhere on your website, blog, or Facebook where other people can see it.
ShareAlike – anyone can use these photographs, and make changes if they like, or incorporate them into a bigger project, but they must make those changes available back to the community under the same terms.
Above all what Creative Commons aims to do is to encourage creative sharing. See some examples of Creative Commons photographs on Flickr: www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. But we cannot promise that there will be photograph there. As alternatives we advise you to contact the race organisers to enquire if there were (1) other photographs taking photographs at the race event or if (2) there were professional commercial sports photographers taking photographs which might have some photographs of you available for purchase. You might find some links for further information above.
Don't like your photograph here?
That's OK! We understand!
If, for any reason, you are not happy or comfortable with your picture appearing here in this photoset on Flickr then please email us at petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com and we will remove it as soon as possible. We give careful consideration to each photograph before uploading.
I want to tell people about these great photographs!
Great! Thank you! The best link to spread the word around is probably http://www.flickr.com/peterm7/sets

Grant Snowden Asylum! NOW!
Ok I'm a realist. Austria probably would not do it. Germany? Maybe, but I'm not sure? Maybe the US? lets see it is an interesting development. But back to the focus. I don't expect ANY EU country to do it but I expect it from the EU because it is supposed to stand 4 democracy (most europeans want to see a happy lolcat snwoden), freedom (well I expect freedom for snowden! nothing less.), liberty to travel around in the EU and explore all these amazing countries so close together that are very different but share some common culter like GNU, LInux, Firefox, Metalab, Friends, Family, etc...
I dont really think the "thing" that connects the EU is religgion. Our Senior C++ architect (also funded by AWS, yay!) is a deep believer in the Muslim faith. And I dont have the feeling that he wants to blow up anything (ok once he set a tent on fire but I think it was an accident I think)...ok I'm getting paranoid I need sleep. I had my birthdayparty today and I did not sleep for moar than 20hour ;))

Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul and State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker joins the NYS American Academy of Pediatrics and over 100 anti-vaping advocates at the State Capitol to rally support for the Governor's campaign to ban all flavored nicotine vaping products, including menthol flavors, and to restrict vaping advertisements aimed at youth.
The legislation, proposed by the Governor as part of this year's budget, would also authorize the State Department of Health to regulate the sale of vaping product carrier oils deemed to be a public health risk and prohibit the online, phone and mail order sale of e-cigarettes. Only registered retailers would be allowed to purchase e-cigarettes using those methods. The campaign also includes a new hashtag - #NoVapeNY - as well as a petition where New Yorkers can show their support for the legislation and a website - ny.gov/endvaping - with more information about the Governor's proposals.
These proposals build on the Governor's previous actions to protect New Yorkers from the dangers of vaping and cigarette smoking. In 2017, the Governor expanded the Clean Indoor Air Act to prohibit e-cigarette use in nearly every workplace setting to protect workers and the public from harmful secondhand tobacco smoke and vaping aerosols. In 2019, e-liquid retailers were required to register with the Department of Taxation and Finance, and the Governor signed legislation to raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco and electronic cigarette products from 18 to 21 - the law went into effect on November 13, 2019.
From 2014 to 2018 youth use of e-cigarettes has increased by 160 percent. Nearly 40 percent of 12th grade students and 27 percent of all high school students are now using e-cigarettes. Flavored nicotine e-liquids are the principal marketing strategy of the vaping industry. One in five youth believe that nicotine e-cigarettes are both harmless and not addictive. Mamie Morris lost her husband to Ebola in November 2014. She lives in King Robert Farm, a suburb or Monrovia, Liberia, together with her 3 children and has to support the whole family on her own.
The Ebola outbreak in West Africa produces an increasing number of affected people beyond those infected and dead.
Survivors, families, children, and health workers are dealing with the stress and trauma left behind by the disease. Psychosocial support is an approach that helps victims of Ebola to cope with stress and fosters resilience in communities and affected individuals.
Twice a week a team of four psychosocial workers and a supervisor of Action Contre la Faim (ACF) visit King Robert Farm to meet the only survivor and affected families in this village.
UNMEER has provided 9 cars to ACF to help it reach communities for contact tracing and psychosocial work.

Light The North charity fundraising art trail goes live on Monday 9th August 2021, this is a regular fundraising event that raises much needed cash for various good causes each year , this year it is Clan Cancer Support , the lighthouse sculptures have already started to be placed in their designated spots in time for the launch on the 9th August , I have tracked some of those down and hopefully will complete the trail over the coming weeks , posting all my shots of my progress in this album .
Fifty stunning lighthouse sculptures are being installed this week, ready for the launch of Clan’s spectacular Light The North art trail.
The 2.5 metre-tall pieces, painted by some of the UK’s most talented artists, will shine a light across Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Orkney and Shetland from Monday August 9, when the trail is officially launched.
Organised in partnership with Wild in Art, which helped deliver Oor Wullie’s Big Bucket Trail in 2019, Light The North will be a major fundraiser for cancer support charity Clan.
The trail also aims to provide a “light in the dark” for those battling cancer and their families.
A team of Clan’s Light The North volunteers and drivers have now started delivering the 50 lighthouses to their specific locations.
Locals and visitors alike will soon be able to find out where each lighthouse is thanks to an interactive map that will be shared by the P&J and Evening Express when the trail officially kicks off.
Little lighthouses created by local schools for Light The North trail
Each of the 50 lighthouses is unique and backed by a local business. Evening Express, the P&J and Original 106 are among some of the sponsors to have their own dedicated lighthouse.
In addition to the main sculpture trail, 76 little lighthouses created by school pupils will be displayed all over the north of Scotland, including in Aberdeen Science Centre and a number of local businesses. The Evening Express and P&J will share an interactive map of the little lighthouses too.
The lighthouse sculptures were gathered and stored at Shore Porters in Aberdeen ready to be delivered and installed across the north and north-east.
More than 70 schools got involved in Clan’s education initiative which was created to give young people across the north-east, Moray, Orkney and Shetland the opportunity to get creative and help their school or group design a little lighthouse to be featured on the trail.
Lighthouse sculptures to be auctioned off to raise funds for cancer charity
At the end of this year’s Light The North trail, which will be present in each of the areas where Clan Cancer Support operates, all the main 50 lighthouse sculptures will be auctioned off to raise funds for the charity so that it can continue supporting people affected by cancer.
Looking good, Darren Hill, communications and marketing manager with Clan, helping prepare the lighthouses.
Fiona Fernie, Clan’s head of income generation and business development, said: “Clan helps people live with and beyond a cancer diagnosis, but we need your help to continue to be there for them. We’ve seen high demand for our services while facing a significant drop in our income.
“Cancer is not going away, and our services are more indispensable than ever, so we want to encourage everyone to get out and support Clan through Light The North.”
Clan’s Light The North Farewell Weekend will take place from Friday October 29 to Sunday October 31 and the auction is planned for Monday November 1.
