The upcoming WTO Ministerial in late November will provide yet another opportunity to address and reform agricultural domestic support. The domestic support pillar has been at the heart of the agricultural negotiations since they began in 2000, but it has proven challenging to achieve consensus on how to advance reforms. In fact, domestic support levels remain high and have risen in recent years.
This event will discuss a recent report by IFPRI researchers that suggests that new disciplines could both reduce distortions and provide significant protection in the event of a subsidy war by reducing "leakage" in domestic support disciplines.

‘Support the Vigil’ card
In April 1993 to mark the first anniversary of the Vigil members of Democracy for Scotland undertook a Destiny march. Members walked from Iona, Arbroath, Whithorn and Berwick to converge on Edinburgh on April 10th, the Vigil's first anniversary.
Democracy for Scotland was a non party political organisation. Following the Conservative Party victory in the 1992 General Election Democracy for Scotland maintained a constant vigil on Regent Road in Edinburgh near to old the Royal High School. This site was seen as the natural home of a Scottish Parliament. The vigil ended following the yes vote in the devolution referendum of 11th September 1997.
The Scottish Political Archive is housed at the University of Stirling. The archive is home to the oral interviews, personal papers and associated material from prominent Scottish politicians. For further information about the work of the archive please visit our website www.scottishpoliticalarchive.org.uk
Family, friends, fellow Soldiers and community members join senior state and Virginia National Guard leaders in bidding an official farewell to the Emporia-based 1710th Transportation Company, 529th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group at a departure ceremony held April 3, 2013, in Emporia. Approximately 160 Soldiers in the unit entered federal active duty April 1 and will conduct their final training at Fort Hood, Texas, for approximately 45 to 60 days before heading on to Afghanistan. Once in country, they are expected to conduct transportation support operations and convoy security for military and host nation convoys, and the mobilization is expected to last 12 months. The 1710th Transportation Company is the first Virginia National Guard unit to serve on federal active duty since the return of Soldiers from the Fort Belvoir-based 29th Infantry Division in July 2012. They last served on federal active duty in Iraq where they provided medium lift transportation capabilities that moved critical supplies from logistical support areas out to forward operating bases from May 2008 to February 2009. For the Global Day of Action people in all corners of the world came together to send out the message that it’s time for the banks to help sort out the financial mess that they caused by introducing a 0.05% tax on financial transactions (aka the Robin Hood Tax). This tiny tax could raise hundreds of billions to tackle poverty and climate change. And what a great, loud and colourful message it was that people in over 40 countries sent to European leaders.
The huge diversity of events, bringing together thousands of organisations, happened across five continents.Quite clearly, there is global support for this simple idea. We’ve got loads of photos and stories on our Posterous page.
It was a lot of fun but there is a serious message behind the antics. The reckless behaviour of the financial sector has a global impact. The economic crisis triggered by financial meltdown has pushed tens of millions of people around the world into poverty and jeopardised commitments to tackling climate change.

Where possible, TAO provides oxen for farmers to share for ploughing, as here as part of our first project in the northern Ugandan districts of Lira, Apac and Oyam. Even where not funded by our donors, farmers often group together to invest in oxen because of the great benefits they bring in allowing larger areas to be farmed and reducing labour costs.
