Declaration of 4,000 MPs, including majorities of 30 parliaments

Moreover, a deceleration by over 4,000 MPs from 40 countries across the globe in support of the Iranian Resistance and especially Ashraf residents was unveiled at the gathering. The MPs, including the majority of the European Parliament, the majority of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and majorities of 28 national parliaments, called for the urgent protection of Ashraf by the UN, U.S. and EU, the immediate lifting of the siege on Ashraf – especially ensuring free access to medical services – and an impartial, comprehensive and independent investigation into the crimes committed on April 8th in Ashraf

In a large and exhilarating gathering held in the Villepinte Auditorium near Paris on Saturday afternoon, 18 June 2011, Iranians called for the immediate protection of Ashraf by the UN with assistance provided by the U.S. and EU. They also condemned any kind of displacement of Ashraf residents inside Iraq, and declared their support for Europe’s peaceful long-term solution for Ashraf. The participants described maintaining the terrorist tag against the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) by the US State Department as an illegal measure and tantamount to participating in the repression of the Iranian people and Resistance. The attendees called on the U.S. government to comply with last July's verdict of the U.S. Court of Appeals in D.C. and immediately revoke the PMOI's terrorist designation.

Hundreds of prominent politicians and MPs representing a broad range of political views from countries in five continents of the globe also took part in the largest gathering of its kind by Iranian exiles. In addition to expressing their support for the Iranian Resistance and defending Ashraf’s rights, the high-profile dignitaries also called for the recognition of the National Council of Resistance by the international community

Rudolph Giuliani, former New York City Mayor and Presidential Candidate (2008); US Congressman Bob Filner; Rita Sussmouth, former Speaker of the German Parliament (1988-1998); Judge Michael Mukasey, former US Attorney General (2007-2009); Ambassador John Bruton, former Prime Minister of Ireland (1994-1997) and EU ambassador to the US (2004-2005); Jean-Pierre Brard, Member of French National Assembly; Andrew Card, White House Chief of Staff of President George Bush (2001-2006); Tom Ridge, first US Secretary of Homeland Security (2003-2005); Alejo Vidal Quadras, European Parliament Vice President; Geir Haarde, former Prime Minister of Iceland (2006-2009); Lord Corbett of Castle Vale, Head of the Labour Peers group in the House of Lords; Nariman al-Rousan, Member of Jordanian Parliament; Aude de Thuin, author and founder of the Women Forum; Sid Ahmed Ghozali, former Prime Minister of Algeria; Robert Torricelli, former U.S. Senator; Carlo Ciccioli, Member of the Italian Parliament; Jean-Charles Rielle, Member of the Swiss Federal Parliament; and Henry Leclerc, Honorary President of the Human Rights League of France.

A number of French mayors, including Jean-Pierre Béquet, Mayor of Auvers-sur-Oise; Nelly Rolland, Mayor of Villepinte; and Maurice Boscavert, Mayor of Taverny, delivered speeches and declared the support of 5,000 French mayors for the Iranian Resistance.

The ceremony was held on the eve of June 20th, the Day of Martyrs and Political Prisoners in Iran. The master of ceremony for the first part of the event was Congressman Patrick Kennedy, Member of US House of Representatives until 2011. David Amess, Member of British Parliament from the Conservative Party, took over the event for the second part.

While being accompanied by Mrs. Rezaii (the mother of 7 martyrs), Mahin Saremi and a number of French MPs, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi honored the memory of 120,000 martyrs of the Iranian people, who have fallen during the three decade struggle against the clerical dictatorship, including the martyrs of the past two years and those who lost their lives as a result of the recent criminal attack against Ashraf.

Mrs. Mahin Saremi, the wife of PMOI supporter Ali Saremi, also took part in the gathering. Ali Saremi was Iran’s most prominent political prisoner and was hanged last year by the Iranian regime after enduring 24 years of imprisonment and torture. Mrs. Saremi, who herself was arrested and imprisoned several times since the 1980s, was recently condemned to 10 years of imprisonment but managed to flee from the Iranian regime and reach Paris. Akbar, the son of Ali and Mahin Saremi, is among the residents of Ashraf.

The flaming sword plant (botanical name : vriesea splendens) is one of the most popular vriesea bromeliads grown indoors, they have no roots but have special hold fasts that do not take in any nutrients. All nutrients are taken in through the center "tank" made by a rosette of leaves.

This species features a red sword like flower head which can grow up to 2ft tall and attractive mottled leaves.

Vriesea is a genus of the botanical family Bromeliaceae, subfamily Tillandsioideae. The genus name is for Willem Hendrik de Vriese, Dutch botanist, physician (1806–1862).

The display reads:

The M981, known as the FIST-V was the first U.S. Army specialized vehicle for the Fire Support Team or Forward Observer in the U.S. Army. Introduced in 1978, the FIST-V used a M113 Armored Personnel Carrier chassis and was identical in appearance to the M901 Improved TOW Vehicle (ITV). This identical appearance helped make the fire support team less of a target on the battlefield. The ITV used the large "hammerhead" on top of the vehicle to launch TOW anti-tank missiles. The "hammerhead" on the FIST-V housed a ground / vehicle laser locator designator (G/VLLD) and a AN/TAS-4 night sight. This allowed the fire support team to locate and designate targets with the laser to be hit by precision guided artillery projectiles or aerial bombs. Inside, the M981 had seven radios and two digital message devices to communicate with the infantry or armor units it supported or the artillery fire direction center. During Operation Desert Storm in 1991, units found that the M981 and other M113 series vehicles were unable to keep up with the Abrams tanks and Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles. The FIST-V was replaced by the Bradley FIST (BFIST) beginning in 2000.

Girl dropouts are a major problem fighting poverty in Malawi, as giving girls and women a better position and better education remains maybe the best way of all to bring change and a better future to Malawi.

At Matunduzi school we saw how the IM-funded project GESI addressed one of the causes of girl dropouts - girls falling behind in their studies due to problems doing their homework due to all the tasks they are asked to do at home.

At Matundizi school, and dozens of similar school, new reading techniques have been introduced and teachers educated in new pedagogical skills.

The reading class seen on these photos were engaging and active to the extreme... Not the least I loved seeing how much space the girls demanded, they were not rated below boys and not discriminated.

Having trained on different reading techniques by GESI, teachers at the school have used the methods to supplement primary school curriculum. One STD 2 teacher introduced supplementary readers from old curriculum books to enhance a reading culture. Through such, most pupils in Standard 2 have acquired Chichewa (Malawis majority language) reading mastery. A rare occurrence in primary schools rocked by myriad challenges.

Meanwhile, on a regular basis, mother groups, that are also getting support and organizational advice from GESI, meets with girls at the school to discuss issues for their retention and achievement. ‘We feel obliged to support our girls so that they should not experience the difficulties we have now due to lack of education.”

Mother group members raise funds for need girls, they give advice and they visit parents who withdraw their girls from schools.

Girls Education Support Initiative (GESI), is funded by IM and run by Malawian NGO Creccom. GESI is an integrated approach to address challenges facing girl children through community mobilization including meeting girls’ post-primary education cost.

The complexities are enormous and intertwine poverty and male dominated culture and put restraints on girls’ education.

IM and Creccom has pledged to promote girls education and fight these constraints.

Are you a caregiver? If you are, you are playing a very important role in a loved-one’s life. As he or she’s health begins to deteriorate, they may increasingly need your help with grocery shopping, driving them to medical appointments and other errands, and even preparing meals for them. Whatever tasks you are doing as a caregiver, it can leave you feeling overwhelmed, resentful, exhausted and burnt out. These feelings are normal. Support for Caregivers

Two new additions to my collection are the Schopf F59 aircraft tractor/pushback tug, and a Truck Firefighting Airfield Crash Rescue 2 Tonne 6x4 Mark 2, Range Rover (TACR2).

The Schopf F59 is a 1:76 scale, 3D printed model by Ray Rimes. The F59 is an all wheel drive, medium aircraft tractor, apparently designed to manoeuvre narrow body regional aircraft. I have added a set of chocks and a fire extinguisher, glazed front and back and painted.

The Range Rover TACR2 is a diecast model by Oxford, also 1:76 scale. Originally bearing military VRM plates, and with “Royal Air Force” on the sides, an RAF roundel and Union Flag on the rear. I removed these with cotton buds and nail polish remover. I added the thin yellow line along the sides, painted the blue warning light orange, added two blue warning lights and applied civilian VRM plates (which in reality belong on a minibus). This will primarily be found as part of the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) team on the Barra layout.

This means my airport support vehicle/equipment collection now consists of - Two tractor tugs, two tow bars, one ground power unit, and one ARFF TACR2.

This weekend, the students of DePauw University will unite with a tremendous display of campus support for the 2005 Special Olympics Indiana Women's State Basketball Tournament. Thirty-eight Special Olympics Indiana basketball teams will compete Saturday and Sunday, March 12 and 13 in state championship competition at the University's Lilly Physical Education and Recreation Center. The event takes place, in part, thanks to the support of the Finish Line® Youth Foundation.

"DePauw basically adopts this event and does the nuts and bolts to make it happen," said Scott Mingle, assistant director of sports management for Special Olympics Indiana. "The students do so much, from getting tables and special olympics logo.gifchairs in place to providing volunteers to run registration and serve as court captains, timekeepers, scorers and announcers. They house Special Olympics athletes, throw parties for the teams, and ensure that the athletes experience this as a big-time tournament."

Thirty-eight teams consisting of 382 players will compete Saturday and Sunday at the annual state championship -- the world's largest Special Olympics women's basketball tournament. Athletes range in age from nine to 61.

Tournament competition includes rounds of play in 10 divisions organized by team ability level. Prior to competing in the state tournament, all teams completed a required minimum of eight weeks of training and played at least two games within the Special Olympics Indiana basketball program. All state tournament games will play on the courts of the main gymnasium at the Lilly Center.
