As I am not at home at the moment, I am not able to process the images from my Hadrian's Wall trip properly. But I have some nice images from a recent trip to a nearby museum, the so called Neanderthal Museum. It is located at the exact same valley where the bones of the Neanderthal were found. As I you can imagine, this museum is all about the Neanderthals and the evolution of mankind.
In this shot, you can see a statue of a Neanderthal dressed like a modern man, leaning on the banister of the museums staircase. They did that to demonstrate how similar the Neanderthals were to us. In fact, if you don't look closely you won't see any difference to a modern day man.
Enjoy!
A small front-end loader (bright lights straight ahead) arrived at first light to clear last night's snow. Sole and Tessa sat at their posts overseeing the job until it was done.

Notre-Dame de Paris; meaning "Our Lady of Paris", referred to simply as Notre-Dame, is a medieval Catholic cathedral on the Île de la Cité (an island in the Seine River), in the 4th arrondissement of Paris, France. The cathedral, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, is considered one of the finest examples of French Gothic architecture. Several attributes set it apart from the earlier Romanesque style, particularly its pioneering use of the rib vault and flying buttress, its enormous and colorful rose windows, and the naturalism and abundance of its sculptural decoration. Notre-Dame also stands out for its three pipe organs (one historic) and its immense church bells.
Built during medieval France, construction of the cathedral began in 1163 under Bishop Maurice de Sully and was largely completed by 1260, though it was modified in succeeding centuries. In the 1790s, during the French Revolution, Notre-Dame suffered extensive desecration; much of its religious imagery was damaged or destroyed. In the 19th century, the coronation of Napoleon and the funerals of many of the French Republic's presidents took place at the cathedral. The 1831 publication of Victor Hugo's novel Notre-Dame de Paris (in English: The Hunchback of Notre-Dame) inspired interest which led to restoration between 1844 and 1864, supervised by Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. On 26 August 1944, the Liberation of Paris from German occupation was celebrated in Notre-Dame with the singing of the Magnificat. Beginning in 1963, the cathedral's façade was cleaned of soot and grime. Another cleaning and restoration project was carried out between 1991 and 2000.
On 15 April 2019, while Notre-Dame was undergoing renovation and restoration, its roof caught fire and burned for 15 hours. The cathedral sustained serious damage. The flèche (the timber spirelet over the crossing) was destroyed, as was most of the lead-covered wooden roof above the stone vaulted ceiling. This contaminated the site and nearby environment with lead. Restoration proposals suggested modernizing the cathedral, but the French National Assembly rejected them, enacting a law in July 2019 that required the restoration preserve the cathedral's "historic, artistic and architectural interest". The task of stabilizing the building against potential collapse was completed in November 2020. The cathedral is expected to reopen on 8 December 2024; the date was confirmed by President Macron.

Just kidding.
The theme for Happy Caturday this week is Cats Supervising and I didn't encounter a single cat who was feeling in charge of anything. Milo (left) and Mickey are the furthest things from supervisors or leaders that you can get. They are quintessential followers. They don't initiate anything - they don't ask for food, or to get out of their cages or for attention. They don't engage with other cats, seemingly unaware that there are even other cats in the room. They don't emote - no hissing, no purring, no dilating eyes when excited, no making mushy paws, no playfulness. They are mellow to the point of being furry automatons. When I walk into the boarding room they instantly get up and walk to me and then just stand there, waiting for me to make the next move. Their expressions are always blank - no excitement, no fear, no anger, no bliss.
Milo and Mickey are unlike any other cats I've ever met and they make me laugh every single, solitary time I look at them. They lounge around waiting for life to happen. If it doesn't, they lounge around some more, and wait a little longer.

Beach erosion can be a problem for sea turtle nests. This is aggravated by weather events like tropical storms. Turtle researchers from Florida Atlantic University and Gumbo Limbo Environmental Complex dig up a turtle nest threatened by beach erosion being caused by passing Tropical Storm Bonnie. The eggs will be relocated further up from the shoreline.
This image was taken under the supervision of turtle researchers from Florida Atlantic University and the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. Please do not disturb sea turtles or their nests. Please help to support sea turtle research at the Nelligan Sea Turtle Research Support Fund.
She's not so much supervising as she is knocking things off the nightstand so I will get out of bed. She also likes to bring me toys and then sit on the nightstand and wait for me to throw them so she can play chase. Happy Caturday!

The gardener is me of course and apparently it was Cleo's turn to keep an eye on me when I worked in the garden on Sunday. Sometimes I wonder if they don't trust me ....
