I've been tagged by kayveeinc

This is how it goes. List 10 things that your friends may or may not know about you, but that are true. Tag ten people and be sure to let them know they’ve been tagged (a quick message will do). Don’t forget to link back to the person who tagged you. Post a picture in your stream with the 10 facts and list your tagged people :)

And 10 miserable friends that I'm going to tag are:

Inut, Natalie, dump9x, Je-Hend, blueaubrey, h4mster, kusukabumikujuga, yotsuba_fan, djcopeman, and Khaniv13

:D

So, here we go:

1. I don't know how to whistle

2. When going to a KTV, my friend always asks me to sing Celine Dion's song

3. I was born in 1979, so more or less, I'm as old as the Gundam franchise

4. I used to be so skinny, my family nicknamed me "langtululume", an anagram for "tulang melulu", roughly translated as "consist of only bones"

5. I like cats. I like cats a lot. Did I mention that I like cats a lot?

6. I have a partial color blindness. I always mixed up red and green, and that used to cause me to cheer for the wrong team each time Indonesian football team has a match with Thailand

7. I haven't driven a car for nearly 7 years

8. I have 8 pairs of earphones/headphones

9. I like the color blue and red, but almost all of my clothes are either black or brown.

10. My mom and me share the same birthday date

BTW, the pic is of Daiku-Maryu Gaiking chogokin figure, from the anime The Legend Of Daiku-Maryu Gaiking, one of the early super robot show, created by the master himself, Go Nagai

Lego Gurren Lagann and Daikengo: in the animation, almost 30 years separate each other. But the super robot vibe is still strong and we love it!

Lego Daikengo! This is my version of a classic Super Robot I've Always liked. In the TV show, Daikengo is formed by three vehicles, but I wanted an action-figure approach with nice poseability and stability without making a too big sized moc (210 mm). So it's not combining, but super fun to play . On the shield I've used custom stickers.

Usually I have a plan whenever I do a super robot, a certain flavour or colour combo. But this one was just winging it. And it certainly turned out weirder than usual but I think that's a good thing.

Trying out something different from HDR and cars on my stream. This may not be all that different from some photos when I first started posting on flickr. My Anime set has been dead for a while now and I thought it was high time to revive it.

Of course this time my shots will be more elaborate and creative than just posting against a colored board. This is my first in a long series of Grendizer shots that should be a lot more fun than simply taking them in my model studio.

For this shot I had to sit on the ground and with my 18-55mm lens because it has better macro capabilities than my 24-105mm lens. I tried to frame Grendizer and the towers until I found the desired composition, the afternoon sun gave me this great light to work with, that gave lovely shadows, there were clouds actually in the background but they were too far and hazy to actually show, they do show in another photo I took closer which I'll post another time.

As for post processing, only some light color work was done in Lightroom and added some sharpness and clarity. Other than that the photo is untouched.

Tagline: Grendizer has come to save us from the over blown prices!!

Gundam & Zaku Robot Spirits (Bandai), in their eternal duel

Rather appropriately (especially if you love Doommates as much as I do), Doomsday arrived yesterday on Friday the 13th. My second and final Master of Disaster, she was quite a different experience from Pinhead. For reviews of the pieces I glanced over here, check out Beardly Designs review of Mr. Zero and my review of Pinhead.

One of my favorite parts about Doomsday (especially being a G1 fan) is that she actually looks feminine. Notice how the designers gave Mr. Zero wider shoulders and Doomsday armored hips to really get that across, not to mention the face and chest detailing. Despite using almost the exact same build as Mr. Zero, she seems like a completely different character, something I hadn't seen in G1 Bionicle since the Toa Mata. She also looks pretty with that azure and blue color scheme, with the black torso providing a good bit of contrast.

I wanted more ideas for the moon, but it works well with Grendizer, especially as the shine on his metal body looks very complementing with the full moon.

This is made from two photos. Grendizer is of course taken in my Mini studio using my 580EXII flash. 580EXII was bounced off the wall for soft light. This was still part of experimenting with the flashes.

The moon photo was taken on the 19th of June. I took it using my 70-200 lens and the one you see here is a full size crop. So if you look at the original size of this photo, that's what the moon size would be on a 70-200 lens with 1.6x crop factor 10 megapixel camera.

NOTE: Original photo that I uploaded was replaced by this one with a RED MOON. Anyone who watched Grendizer growing up knows what this Symbolized in the story. =) I redid the moon color while listening to the Soundtrack from Grendizer. It's one of my favorite if not THE favorite soundtrack in the world.

Some of you may have noticed Beardly Designs bought and reviewed one of the illusive Final Fighter/Super Robot knockoff sets, now called Glopo Dream Builders: Masters of Disaster. Of course, I had to get my hands on these. Here\'s my first, the Keetongu knockoff named "Pinhead." I\'m not joking.

As a whole, this set is... decent. He\'s (or she\'s, but more later) a bit thinner than I thought, and my goodness that plastic is cheap. I don\'t know how little kids can put this together, because it took me an hour just trying to muscle all those pins into place. There\'s an odd bit in the feet that puts strain on the liftarms. But my biggest problem with this set though is the chestplate: it refuses to stay on.

On the plus side, it\'s a fun, cheap little set with plenty of interesting parts, including more "Technic"-like parts than the other sets. It has a working gear function (I use "working" loosely here) and the interlocking shield blades, which I was kind of impressed with.

One of the most famous attack of this classic super robot^^

Soul of Chogokin Mazinger damaged, as it appear in the old oav. Really a great and commemorative toy

I forgot to mention in my review of Pinhead just what comes in the box you get. Interestingly enough, the pieces come in little cardboard trays like the '01 Rahi sets of old (currently filled with the plethora of extra pins and such I got from these two sets, and yes, Pinhead had an extra blade, which I was happy about). I loved that bit of nostalgia. One weapon and the mask/head piece come in little vacuum-molded trays, presumably for display on an older box design. Here's a look at the instructions, which are front and back printed with a total of eight steps. It goes kind of fast and jumps around a little, so even on this set I had to backtrack occasionally. Still, the method used for the instruction and the printing quality is quite good.

Little note: on the box, Doomsday has a series of wavy patterns printed in blue on the top of her mask, something that is noticeably absent from the actual set. Either the printing was something they didn't get to, or it was on an earlier iteration of the set.

As a robot/ mecha fan, "Giant Robo vs Big-O" absolutely is the dream match to me.

And here she is from the back. The armor that locks her gear function in place (similar to a Metru chestplate, but on the back instead) is azure instead of black as seen on Mr. Zero. One thing that bugged me about her is her proportions. Both she and Mr. Zero have tiny torsos with extremely long arms and lower legs. I do wish they were shortened a little.
