The fanciful decoration on the top of the horse barn represents Annie Oakley's trademark trick, shooting a hole through the middle of the Ace of Hearts. This barn was very run down but has since been restored to perfect condition!
On the way back from Colorado, we made a short stop in North Platte, Nebraska, to check out Buffalo Bill's house and ranch. It's a really cool little place to stop, so I highly recommend it! Not to mention that North Platte is a cool town and has a lot of great old stuff to look at, especially a lot of cool old neon Motel signs! Hope I can visit again someday, even though Nebraska is superflat and makes hillbillies like me cry.

On the TFL website the artist says "My work feels like strands of my thoughts that have flown around the universe before coming back to materialise."
It’s a much more thought provoking and more enjoyable view than looking at some dirty old peeling poster advertising something I don’t want.
I was walking around in Namdaemun (the Southern Gate) when I spotted this mural from across the street. I wasn’t sure at first but once I got a closer look, sure enough it was a Takashi Murakami piece. Apparently he’s got a showing here in Seoul called “Takashi in Superflat Wonderland” somewhere around where this picture was taken. Unfortunately I was in a bit of a rush and didn’t have a chance to stick around and find out.
I will definitely be making a trip back, though, once I find out where that gallery is.

Painting
A band of youths (2020) is a series of paintings that expresses modern-day issues on identity and consumerist culture using vivid, illustrative, flat art techniques. My practice takes inspiration from cartoons and imported Japanese anime and manga from my childhood, and the Superflat art and street art community, including artists Yoshimoto Nara and Barry McGee.
The paintings consist of portraits of characters each carrying an exaggerated, distressed facial expression that portray anxiety and hidden emotions. The pink-blushed nose and cheeks of each character, which is a common feature of chibi (small) characters in Japanese anime, depicts our vulnerability and our adult desire to remain protected and childlike. The work addresses the issues on consumerist culture, and presents the theme of rejection and isolation through the use of discarded objects such as shipping cardboard boxes and soda bottles as fundamental support.

Takashi Murakami (村上 隆) is a prolific contemporary Japanese artist who works in both fine arts media - such as painting - as well as digital and commercial media. He blurs the boundaries between high and low art. He appropriates popular themes from mass media and pop culture, then turns them into thirty-foot sculptures, "Superflat" paintings, or marketable commercial goods such as figurines or phone caddies. From September till December 2010, Murakami exhibited some of his works at the Palace of Versailles in France, filling 15 rooms with his sculptures.
