Here's a scene from the 2017 superbloom in the eastern sierra. The lupine are a species I'd never seen before. Stormy conditions prevailed which provides drama for this rare occassion.

I’ve been waiting 11 months for this cactus to bloom. It’s having a superbloom of its own after this rainy winter.
Turns out that my trip to the Carrizo Plain 2 weeks ago was to see the start of the superbloom. If this isn't the peak right now, as of March 25 2019, then I don't know where more flowers could go.

and the moon. Last year's 'superbloom' in Hemet, California. Although this past winter also had above average rainfall, arguably the superbloom (without a strict definition) did not materialize this year.

The Tower of London's Superbloom is the beautiful new naturalistic landscape in the historic moat, marking the Platinum Jubilee year of Her Majesty the Queen.
The Death Valley superbloom was pretty incredible. I couldn't help but return back to the dunes in search for this prolific field of pink verbena. I ended up going to Death Valley three times to check out the superbloom that year. The Death Valley Superbloom didn't disappoint!
I saw several of these metallic blister beetles among the vast flower fields at Carrizo Plain National Monument this past weekend. I think it's Lytta chloris or L. stygica.

Extending onto the slopes of the Temblor Range, and BTW smack on the San Andreas fault. These are mostly phacelia, fiddlenecks, and Acton daisies, I think. And BTW this is a piece of land The Nature Conservancy needs to buy, I'm writing them with the details.

For years now I've been trying to catch a superbloom at its peak, not easy when you work full time and live 500 miles away. I've tried every few years, but I always seemed to arrive either before or after the short desert bloom hit its peak. Well, I think I finally got it right.

An explosion of owl's clover carpets a meadow in Sedona as rain clouds shroud Lee Mountain in the distance. It's a rare show of wildflowers for the Sedona area.
I lucked out with the legendary superbloom of 2017 coinciding with my spring break, so I took advantage of it and headed to some of the best spots in Southern California. This place, Walker Canyon, near Lake Elsinore, California was my favorite.
Superbloom
Now, this is a Jubilee celebration that I can enjoy. The moat of the Tower of London has been filled with wildflowers to attract pollinators.
We opted for the free route – the walkway above the moat – and we were not disappointed.
However, it’s not easy to convey in a photo. So, if you’re in the vicinity, why not pop over for a look?

As part of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, the moat at the Tower of London has been filled with wildflower seeds.
This will be the case for at least 5 years, as they look to increase habitat and biodiversity.
