the white color of the eyes and the presence of a white breast band are the key differences with the very similar looking Hildebrandt's Starling

Managed to get out for a couple of hours with the camera today and found a new location in my local area of North Hampshire.

cóż małe rozczarowanie jak to zwykle w życiu bywa, w filmie był nastrój magia, na żywo gdzieś mi to wszystko umknęło. Nie ten czas, nie ta chwila.

Have a wonderful day and weekend everyone!

Female Superb Fairywrens (malurus cyaneus), Woodlands Historic Park, Melbourne, Australia. This image was taken on a dreary, low-light evening in January of this year, but the low light allowed for some lovely backgrounds. These two only perched at the edge of the branch for a second or two, so I was really lucky to capture this shot before they flew off.

May 2022

Another lyrebird moment presented itself today.

We stopped by Sublime Point lookout on the way home after a big day out. Right beside the footpath there was a superb lyrebird scratching around in the litter. It did not seem at all concerned about the 5 or 6 people that were soaking up the moment. I think it is most likely a juvenile.

We were out for a Sunday drive and came across a group of 4 or 5 superb fairy-wrens. They hung around for about 15 minutes and I even had time to go back to the car and change lenses.

There seem to be so many Fledglings about this year. It must be a bumper season not only for birds - but their food supply as well.

Great for photographers, not only do they look cute, but they seem quite approachable in this naive phase of life.

Similar to the female Fairywren I posted recently, here is the male Superb Fairywren (Malurus cyaneus) in full breeding plumage amongst the Scotch thistles, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Our expectations for seeing a lyrebird were low, but in the end we ended up seeing some specimens of the two species that exist in Australia.

While walking on a trail we saw a couple of lyrebirds crossing the path far away. The male was showing off his beautiful tail and unfortunately we didn't get any photos. Our luck changed when we saw a female that was preparing to cross the path right in front of us. She ran across the clearing but then stopped for a few seconds allowing us to take some photos.

Days later in Lamington we saw some more lyrebirds again, in this case the other missing species - Albert's Lyrebird.

I often ponder that we are so fortunate these are such tiny birds. If they were larger with the same attitude, we'd be in serious trouble
