It might be the first day of the meteorological winter but, so far as Network Rail goes, there's still some autumn business left to clear up.
Passing Old Colwyn on the North Wales coast are a pair of Colas class 56s, 56105 leading with 56113 in the rear, working the 2.46am Shrewsbury Coleham - Shrewsbury Coleham (3S71) Rail-Head Treatment Train, running about an hour late. Thankfully not so late as to miss the sun altogether - it's 2.15pm and the shadows are already pretty long.
I've been itching to get this shot for the last few days and was gutted when I saw 3S71, scheduled to depart Shrewsbury last night, didn't actually leave. Luckily it left this morning on a shorter tour taking in Holyhead and return - a trip that fortunately coincided with some decent weather conditions, and cloud shadows that just lifted over the bay in the nick of time.

Last weekend, I hiked up one of our local "mountains" called Peilstein and hoped for some beautiful sunset since it was sunny the whole afternoon with some beautiful clouds in the sky. However, when I reached the top, almost all the clouds were gone, but I still decided to stay and watch the sun go down. From the few images I captured, this one is my favorite, even though it's pretty minimalistic, but I really like the almost parallel lines of the clouds and the mountain ridge framing the setting sun. Hope you like it too!
A beautiful sunset in northern Illinois this past weekend. The farm pictured is on Prairie Center Road, which seems quite fitting...
