City-building is no longer the exclusive purview of professional planners and architects: urban entrepreneurs are now as invested in the physical space and neighborhoods that surround their businesses, as they are in their company’s bottom line. How is entrepreneurial energy transforming our urban commercial districts and neighborhoods?

The NHS Values Summit brings together a diverse range of people and perspectives to create a greater understanding of how people’s differences, social status and cultural expectations can affect their experiences of health and care.
It challenges and inspires people to think about the role of ethical leadership in improving the health and wellbeing of local communities, staff and patients and how the NHS can increase the social value of its activities.
Welcoming representatives from health and social care, alongside more than 20 partners from the voluntary and community sector, this event (in Leeds, Yorkshire) was a template for future NHS Values Summits, which will be held twice a year in different locations across the country. Each event will explore a different theme relating to equality, health inequalities and human rights. The next gathering will take place in May 2013.

Claire Weisz, Founding Partner, WXY Architecture + Urban Design, presents on summit panel, Grand Central Terminal: The Next 100.
In 2013, Grand Central Terminal will celebrate 100 years as a great civic space. Successfully saved by preservation efforts led by MAS decades ago, plans to rezone the district around the terminal now may reshape the city as whole, with broader implications for transit, infrastructure, economic development and the City’s iconic skyline. Planning for and around this New York treasure represents one of the great opportunities—and challenges—to urban planning and design for New York City in this decade. This part of the city has many interests: developers, local businesses, global enterprises, public sector agencies and residents. What do the city’s most creative designers propose? Can we reach a consensus for the future?
