On a good day from the summit of Snaefell it is said that you can see "seven kingdoms at a glance" and this legend was emblazoned on the railway's advertising for many years. Those kingdoms are: England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Mann (the local term for Isle of Man), the kingdoms of Heaven and the sea
On a bad day..................
Cairns are a form of human expression which is almost as old as time. The simple act of gathering stones together denotes a place of some significance - in ancient times they were erected as sepulchral monuments, or used for practical and astronomical uses. In the modern day and age they are often gradually constructed over time by walkers and sightseers who like to leave their mark in places with a special view. This one is located above Ilkley and is seen here on the evening of a snowy sunset over Yorkshire.

Note we're dressed a mite different. Rain pants are fantastic for this type hiking. For some strange reason, hikers on Oahu use gaiters. They wouldn't hack it on Kauai.

Frequently, when we explore ghost towns, all we find is the cemetery. In this case, there are no original gravestones, but someone is obviously trying to preserve the grave locations. Each grave has a little orange flag, an older metal cross, and / or a new PVC cross. Some have signs or modern markers.
In 1863, trapper Henry Hartley discovered gold here and Summit City was soon founded. Eventually, the name was changed to Meadow Lake. Soon there were over 4000 summer residents and 500 buildings, including a stock exchange, post office, newspaper, school, breweries, and 80 saloons. In 1866-67 there was over 30 feet of snow, and since the eight stamp mills failed to extract much gold, most residents were gone by 1869. By 1873, Hartley was the only one left. He is still here, in this cemetery.
Summit of Aconcagua (6963m), selftimer. The bad weather couldn't mar my happiness of having attained the summit.
The Summit was attended by the prime ministers from the region, comprising of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.
EBRD President Sir Suma Chakrabarti and UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond opened the event with key note addresses. After a prime ministers’ session government ministers, political decision-makers and leading entrepreneurs and investors took part in three discussions. The panels debated the development of transport links, the potential for renewable energy and the privatisation agenda in the Western Balkans.
The EBRD-backed SEE Link, an innovative regional platform for trading securities listed on the Bulgarian, Croatian and Macedonian stock exchanges, was launched during the Summit. The Serbian and Slovenian bourses confirmed their intention to join the initiative during the conference in London, boosting regional integration of capital markets.
The event aimed to highlight investment and business opportunities in the region and promote the inflow of foreign direct investment and cross-border projects. Participants had the opportunity to engage directly with key political and business representatives.
The Summit follows the first Western Balkans Investment Forum at the EBRD in February 2014 which for the first time had brought together all prime ministers from the region.
The EBRD is one of the largest investors in the Western Balkans and last year alone the Bank invested around €1 billion in various projects from energy efficiency to infrastructure and from support for financial institutions to agribusiness
