The kids at a neighborhood swim/play party the day school got out. Perfect weather and a fantastic time. Happy Summer!

And the livin' is easy...
Hours were spent in the hammock on hot afternoons, reading, snoozing, drinking tea, looking at the magnificent Dhauladhars in front and just being...
Birds swooped overhead, singing among the bamboo. A dog or two would run past. Once a mongoose scuttled across the gazebo, shocked to see a human so close. Another day he came again, stopped at arms length and looked at me and I looked at him...
In the evenings we walked, sometimes among tea bushes that the cows liked chomping on. My cousins with whom I was staying had bought two cows a couple of years ago, now there are six and another on the way. Milk, potatoes, rice, wheat, onions, tomatoes, herbs, all home grown. I watched people on neighbouring properties sow rice. We went to a wedding where the whole village was invited.
We baked bread, cakes, made cold coffee. The food was delicious. Neighbours and friends dropped by with pots of jam with home grown fruit. Sometimes they brought plants.
This land was once a tea garden and now there are plans to revive some of those bushes. Even so, we drank tea that grew on the property, redried in the solar cooker; delicious with lemon grass....
Life was good. Seriously!

What to you see when you see happiness? It's a hard thing to perceive, because we all have an idea of what could potentially make us happy - money, a big house, a family, maybe even an ice cream; but, would that actually make us happy? I want all of those, I'd say almost everybody does, but would it cost my happiness to reach them? It could, it really could. As a teenager, or a young adult in my case, we are given the belief that true happiness will come if and only you work hard enough for it. Nothing comes free, and that's something I do understand. However, I don't believe you have to work at something to become happy. Take a baby for instance, all they need is love and care from their parents to be happy. I know this because this past weekend, I saw a mother care for her child & the child repaid her with happiness. I personally think, true happiness comes from within and not from what we work at to achieve. It's strange to think about actually...
