Another blooming successful catch!

August is upon us, and the mild weather looks set to continue, with a few outbreaks

of rain here and there expected over the next week. Today was hot and humid and with

a high of 34 degrees, it would have been rude not to set the trap up!

Despite clear skies the temperature was still 19 degrees at 6am this morning. Moths

were absolutely everywhere, in the trap, on the wall and within the long grass. It

took just over an hour of sorting. Unfortunately quite a few had passed away, possibly

to do with 4 dead wasps in the trap and a combination of high temperature and the sheer

amount of Dot Moths and Dark Arches, the latter numbering close to 80 individuals.

Best Macro moths were Barred Hook-tip, Campion, Slender Brindle and the long awaited

Swallow Prominent (having had Lesser Swallow on numerous occasions)

Best Micro moths were 3 Limnaecia phragmitella, Clavigesta purdeyi and the tiny Epinotia nanana. Adding 3 new Micros to my all time list was very pleasing indeed.

I will be trapping again on Sunday night.

A pair of Robins had been successfully nesting in our garden for weeks, and I let myself get all excited for the prospect of having baby birds in the garden. Over the years we've had many birds attempting to nest, but what frustrates me is that none are successful because there is a pair of Magpies nesting high in a tree in the next road. They've been nesting there for 3-4 years now and have had no chicks, yet it is their mission in the neighbourhood to seek out and destroy every other birds nest they can find in the area each year.

This is the first time we had Robins nest, and they picked such a good spot. But then we noticed that Magpie had clocked onto their whereabouts and started hanging out in our birch tree, which is never a good sign. Then as expected, we stopped seeing Robin ducking in and out of the Ivy every day. We left it for a week just to be sure, and sadly the Magpies had actually managed to drive them away. Today I went to check if any eggs had been laid, and there were three which made it all the sadder.

I think I should categorically state here that the nest was damaged, and the eggs are completely dried up and empty inside. I wouldn't have gone near it if we weren't 100% sure it had been abandoned (:

Also (even though I like them, if you couldn't guess by the username) Magpies suck and we have too many of them here.

KENNY BOD was undoubtedly one of the most successful MCs of all time. Even after his single, he has sold the debut records worldwide making him the highest selling rap/hip-hop artist of all time!

KENNY BOD is widely regarded as the greatest rapper of all time. Moreover, a recent poll in MTV placed him as the #1 MC of all time. However,

KENNY BOD was much more than that. His strong lyrical content grew a huge array of followers, making him a hero among millions. The hugely successful international coach and referee development programme run by the Premier League and the British Council launches a new phase in Khartoum. The week-long course will provide intensive practical training for 44 male and female grassroots football coaches and 20 referees from Sudan and South Sudan.

Premier Skills Phase 2 is taking place from 7 December 2011 to the 12 December 2011 and will be led by Jeremy Weeks, a UEFA qualified coach previously employed by Fulham Football Club. He will be supported by Rachel Parker and Stephen McCarthy, community coaches from Bolton Wanderers and Queen’s Park Rangers Football Clubs respectively.

Running alongside the coach programme will be an ‘Introduction to Refereeing’ course, which will focus on teaching community organisation representatives the rules of football, and how to officiate the game of football at any level. The course is being led by former international FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, and will be assisted by Alan Wiley, who was a professional Premier League referee up to his retirement in 2010. This component will run from 5 December 2011 to the 7th December 2011.

The courses in Khartoum are being jointly organised by the British Council, Premier League and Sudan Football Association, who will launch the Premier Skills Phase 2 programme on 7 December 2011 at the Khartoum Football Stadium. This will also celebrate the completion of the referee course. The second phase of the Premier Skills programme is also supported by the Sudanese Ministry of Youth and Sport and the Khartoum Youth Council.

It was a pretty full day of happiness. Just not a lot of photo ops.

Morning bike ride, call from a high school friend, successful video post; followed by MORE Flickr Friend love, another much-needed but long-awaited dose of "When Harry Met Sally", and then dinner at friends. That's a good day.
