Following the successful enrollment of 24 new sites on the World Heritage List, the Committee debated numerous reforms of the Operational Guidelines for the World Heritage Convention on 6 July.
Among others the last side events of the day dealt with the transboundary natural heritage sites of the Wadden Sea and the European beech forests. The German Commission for UNESCO took up the question how UNESCO’s cultural conventions can contribute to sustainable development processes and the United Nations Post-2015 Agenda.

Notes taken from the Book - Ballyfermot Building a Community 1948 - 2006 Ken Larkin
Joe Deasy R.I.P. 1922 - 2013
Inchicore and Ballyfermot Co-Operative Society Ltd
Inchicore Co-Operative Society Ltd began in the Workman’s Club in Inchicore in 1946 and traded in the Inchicore area successfully. They applied to the housing department of Dublin Corporation in 1949 for permission to open Sarsfield Co-Operative Society within Ballyfermot and to operate a grocery retailers. A petition of over 1,100 signatures to grant the Co-Op the tenancy on Decies Road was sent to Dublin Corporation along with the application. The people that signed the petition were all residents of Ballyfermot and clearly wanted the society opened. It read as follows.
We the undersigned Residents of Ballyfermot Housing area petition Dublin Corporation to grant Inchicore Co-Operative Society Ltd, the tenancy of one of the Corporation-owned shops on Decies Road in Ballyfermot housing scheme for the purpose of Co-Operative grocery retailing in the interest of the residents in Ballyfermot
As there were a small number of shops for such a large population in Ballyfermot the people felt that these shops were charging exorbitant prices. In 1949 permission was granted by Dublin Corporation, for the Ballyfermot Co- Operative Society to open at 41 Decies Road Ballyfermot. A shop manager and staff were employed and they began to recruit people to become members of the Society. As a member, they had to commit to paying one shilling per week. Unemployment was high so this was a big commitment to some people that had very little. There was a good response and approx 500 members joined and most of these were resident in Ballyfermot. It ran very successfully for three years. September 1952 the committee were holding an outdoor meeting near the Co-Op on Decies Road. The reason behind the meeting was to stress to the people how important it was to have a Co-Op in a working class area and to recruit new members. On the committee that was running the Co-Op, there were some non-political people; also, there were four people that were attached to the Irish Worker’s League, which had affiliation to Communism. The word Communist was a taboo subject in 1950s-60s not only in Ireland but also around the world. The four people involved in the Irish Workers Party were Joe Deasy, who was chairman of Ballyfermot Co-Op Jeffery Palmer, Maisy McElroy, and Sean Mcgee. During the meeting, there were interruptions, and barracking, by some of the public and the speakers were not allowed to speak.
Questions were asked from some of the people gathered for the meeting. One of the questions that were asked ‘Was it true that there were Communists on the Co-Op Committee’.
Joe Deasy answered ‘He did not intend to discuss any member of the Co-Op or their politics as they were irrelevant to the existence and promotion of the Co-Op movement’.
The Co-Op movement was non-sectarian and non-political in the sense that anybody could become a member of the society or a member of the committee irrespective of their politics. One person from the crowd shouted if he could get up on the platform to address a few questions to Joe Deasy. So he emerged from the crowd and had prepared questions written out. He asked was the chairman a Communist and were there Communists on the committee. He said that he was representing the local clergy. Joe Deasy repeated what he said before and then the person was asked to leave the platform. The following day he got a phone call from a Mr McGowan who was on the Co-Op Committee but was not a member of the Irish Worker’s League and he wanted to clear the air from the night before. He asked Joe if he was a member of the Irish Worker’s League and Joe said that he was and so were three other people on the committee. McGowan was shocked by this information and he said to Joe that the clergy were behind the unrest and that he had experience of the clergy being opposed to something in the past for various reasons and that they will be determined to see this through to the end. Joe said that they would have no objection to any of the priest’s joining the Co-Op Committee but they would have been treated the same as everyone else on the committee and they felt that the priest’s did not want it on that basis.
The following Sunday in the three churches that served Ballyfermot and Inchicore the priest’s spoke from the pulpit about the previous outdoor meeting and how the chairman of the Co-Op was asked questions which he refused to answer. Therefore, as a result of this they decided that there were communist issues involved and the faithful were asked not to be members of the Co-Op or to patronise the shop in question. This had affected Joe personally arising out of being called off the altar not by his name but chairperson of the society and it was well known whom the priest’s were referring to. Joe’s parents who attended the church locally and who did good work in the area got an inclination of what was going to be said from the pulpit and decided that they would get mass in an outside parish of James Street. This episode was very painful for Joe, and caused great anxiety in their family.
Sean McGee’s parents who lived in Kilkenny were approached by the Garda and told what was happening in Ballyfermot and this meant a break in his relationship with his family for two years.
Sunday, the 2 November 1952, the Sunday Press wrote an article condemning the Co-Op Committee and their communist activities and calling for the Co-Op to be shut down. A letter followed this from the newly formed Sarsfield Tenants Association to the Alderman, Councillors, and T.D.s of the area condemning the exposure of communist activities within the Co-Op.

Everybody who knows the slightest thing about communist technique knows that its first objective is contact. What better contact than the unsuspecting members of a Co-Op. Here let us state that the other Co-Ops and the producer Co-Ops in the country escaped that evil influence. It was Ballyfermot’s misfortune to be selected for infiltration. How appropriate are the names of Ballyfermot, Sarsfield, Decies, and Cremona, they might have been changed to Lenin, Stalin, and perhaps Deasy Road.
Therefore, public opinion changed against them and a picket was put on the shop. To save the Co-Op the four people admitted that they were members of the Communist Party and offered to resign from the committee but they would not resign from the Association as they to do so they felt that it would go against their Civil Liberties. Tim Graham one of the committee members met with the Irish Civil Liberties Association and explained what was happening. They decided that there was not a Civil Liberty involved in this case. The Co-Op Association was very disappointed with their decision. They could not understand how the Pulpit was being used to destroy a Society or a Co-Op movement that was set up to help the people especially working class people. The Co-Op survived for a few months after this. April 1953 the Co-Op had to close as it was not getting enough custom to be commercially viable.

Ecovolis program has proven successful in dramatically increasing bicycle use in Tirana, which, formerly, was a city without a developed bicycle culture. Ecovolis program is the first project in Albania that provides low-income adults with commuter bicycles as well as a donating program for children bicycles. The program recently completed two major steps, opening new bike stations in the city of Durrës and integrating Tourist Information Point Service to the bicycles stations' structure.
History
The Tirana Community Bicycle Albania project won financial support from the George Soros Open Society Foundation Albania (OSFA). An even larger contribution came from the US-based Pedal for Progress organization, which donated 450 bicycles. Sixty of these were used road bikes, which were modified and painted by local technicians to serve as public bikes in the Ecovolis scheme. Another portion was set aside to donate to children and to activists and volunteers at PASS. Still another portion were diverted to the project's Eco Bicycle Shop, a social enterprise which sells bikes for USD 50-150 and reinvests profits for the service and maintenance of Ecovolis bicycles. The main objective of the program was to introduce the community to an inexpensive, environmental friendly form of transport -- the bicycle; to sell used bikes at low prices; to donate bikes to the children of needy families and to PASS volunteers; to establish a bike sharing-scheme in the city (Ecovolis); and to employ financially disadvantaged people and young students to operate the bike-sharing scheme.
System
Each Ecovolis station is staffed by two employees in two shifts and contains 30 -- 60 bicycles. In order to use the bicycles it is required to provide a personal identification document (such as passport or ID card) or by subscribing to the Ecovolis membership Card.
The first black and red bicycles, (also the colors of the Albanian flag) were donated from US-organization Pedal for Progress, (which collect and donate used bicycles). As these bicycles were of different types, converting them for safe and comfortable public use took months of work. The price per bicycle varies from 60 US$ to 90 US$ each. The bicycle is equipped with a front bicycle basket, a behind carrier, a comfortable saddle and a public fender with the Ecovolis sign.
The bicycle stations also provide touristic information to the visitors and a list of the city attractions. Moreover, being a non-profit social enterprise, during particular days the program offers free bicycle service, cycling courses, donations of bicycles and helmets for children in need, bike tours and a bicycle recycle program.

I would like to pass on this message to our Honourable Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, David Cameron and the Honourable President Obama, President of the United States of America, and all other European countries to take my advice into account. And it is in the larger interests of our strategy against ISIS and other radical Islamists.
What I know from my spiritual experiences is that Bashar al Assad is not our immediate concern. In order to defeat ISIS in Syria, you have to focus on one enemy at a time. Don’t think about Bashar al Assad right now; that’s not our immediate concern. In order to successfully defeat ISIS, if we have to shake hands with Bashar al Assad temporarily, do not hesitate. Go ahead. I think it is important for a successful assault on ISIS that for the time being you either shake hands with Bashar al Assad to grab the opportunity or you ignore him right now and focus on ISIS and its ideology.
Bombing their oil wells is a good job; keep doing it. This will produce wonderful, miraculous results.
In the long run, the ideology of hatred, the Wahhabi brand of Islam, has to be taken care of. If we want this world to become a peaceful place to live again, we must take care of the Wahhabi brand of Islam. It is like these Islamists have practically declared a war against the rest of the world; we should now accept it. With this acceptance, we should then retaliate in accordance with the culture of war, with the understanding of a war. In war and love, everything is fair. You have to root out this evil from the global society.
All countries of the world who promote peace and love and respect humanity should support the United States of America, the UK, France and Germany and any other country who is now becoming part of this greater alliance against the evil ISIS and other terrorist groups.

Clas/sick Hip Hop: 1993 Edition reimagined the catalog of one of hip hop's most commercially and artistically successful years: 1993. In that year, OutKast, A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop Dogg, Wu Tang Clan, and Tupac Shakur all released seminal music that recalibrated the sonic possibilities of the entire genre. 1993 was also the year that YBCA opened its doors with a mission to celebrate both the Bay Area's local prowess and the globe's contemporary aesthetic vision. Combining these impulses, Clas/sick Hip Hop challenged more than 20 local MCs to recreate the hip-hop catalog of 1993, backed on two different stages by two of the Bay Area's foremost young composers, JooWan Kim performing with his chamber orchestra Ensemble Mik Nawooj and Oakland's own Kev Choice, Lauryn Hill's former musical director, performing with the 10-piece Kev Choice Ensemble.
Ensemble Mik Nawooj (EMN) presented the world premiere of a six-piece YBCA commission in which EMN music director, composer/pianist JooWan Kim, re-imagines six classic hip-hop songs from 1993 with his group, including C.R.E.A.M., Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuthing Ta Fuck Wit, and Shame On A Nigga from the Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) album by Wu-Tang Clan; as well as Gin and Juice, Gz and Hustlas, and Who Am I (What's My Name)? from the Doggystyle album by Snoop Dogg.
Kev Choice Ensemble paid homage and tribute to the incredible catalogue of hip-hop music that came out in the year of 1993. The focus will be on the classic songs, albums, influences and samples that were the foundation in the creation of these songs.

This is a photograph from the second running of the Athlone Flatline Half Marathon ("The Flatline") was held at Athlone, Co. Westmeath, Ireland on Saturday 14th September 2013 at 11:00. There was beautiful weather for the event which started and finished at St. Aloysius College near the Canal Banks area of the town just slightly west of the River Shannon. This event was professionally organised and the very flat course meant that many runners both seasoned and new to the scene achieved season or personal bests. Almost 1,000 participants successfully completed the event in the beautiful September sunshine. Everyone involved must be congratulated for the flawless running of the event. This event is sure to go from strength to strength over the coming years. The "Flatline" also included an option for a full marathon which was fully supported by the Marathon Club of Ireland and the East of Ireland Marathon Series. This allowed participants to run the Flatline twice for the qualifying marathon distance. About 80 people took part.
This is a photograph which is part of a larger set of photographs taken at the start and finish of "The Flatline" 2013. The URL of the main set is www.flickr.com/photos/peterm7/sets/72157635495089498/. There are some photographs of the finishers of the marathon.

Overall Race Summary
Participants: Such is the popularity of the race this year that registration closed for the race in mid-August 2013. There were well over 1,000 participants who took to the start line.
Weather: The weather on the day was almost perfect for running. The runners were bathed in warm September sunshine for the duration of the race and into the early afternoon. In the sections of the race out towards Clonown and around the Bord na Mona areas there was a stiff breeze but nothing major.
Course: "The Flatline" ceratinly lived up to its name. It is as flat a course as one is likely to find. A garmin connect gps trace of the route is provided here [connect.garmin.com/activity/199678412] Geographically the course spends much of the race in County Roscommon with only the first and last kilometers actually in County Westmeath. This gives geographically inclined runners the novel opportunity to race in two Irish provinces in one race. The course had distance markers at every kilometre and mile along the way. There were official pacers provided by the race organisers.
Location Map: Start/finish area and registration etc on Google StreetView [goo.gl/maps/8qCes] - Ample parking was supplied with some over-flow car-parking options also available.
Refreshments: An Alkohol Frei bottle of Erdinger was provided to every finisher as they crossed the line. Light refreshments were served.

I ran in the race - but my photograph doesn't appear here in your Flickr set! What gives?
As mentioned above we take these photographs as a hobby and as a voluntary contribution to the running community in Ireland. Very often we have actually ran in the same race and then switched to photographer mode after we finished the race. Consequently, we feel that we have no obligations to capture a photograph of every participant in the race. However, we do try our very best to capture as many participants as possible. But this is sometimes not possible for a variety of reasons:
►You were hidden behind another participant as you passed our camera
►Weather or lighting conditions meant that we had some photographs with blurry content which we did not upload to our Flickr set
►There were too many people - some races attract thousands of participants and as amateur photographs we cannot hope to capture photographs of everyone
►We simply missed you - sorry about that - we did our best!
You can email us petermooney78 AT gmail DOT com to enquire if we have a photograph of you which didn't make the final Flickr selection for the race. I don't think of myself as successful at all. I'm just a mother who works from her home and I find that the most challenging thing I've ever faced. Just getting through one day is success to me. Getting "through", however, always means with my coffee in hand. I can't hardly function without coffee and that may be a bad thing, who knows? I always tell myself, "my addiction could be way worse". And this morning, for the first in probably 7 months, I had to wear socks while drinking that coffee. It was bitterly coooold in my house. We left the windows open and when we got up, it was 49 degrees in the house. Brrrrrrr.... Whoops! Hard to imagine nights are going to get that cold when it's 75 during the day and it be only the middle of September! Anyway, I LOVE being barefoot but me also love me a comfy pair of wool socks :c) (I know, great grammar, eh?)

Successful Control of the Mediterranean Fruit Fly in Jordan
“The Jordan valley has 6000 hectares of fruit orchards and the medfly damages 60% of the fruit produced,” said Setan Al-serhan, Head of the Pest Control Division in the Ministry of Agriculture. “We are facing a serious problem and SIT has demonstrated success in the selected area. However, there is a need to expand the use of this technology to cover a wider fruit production area for the benefit of more farmers.” Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) Emergence Facility, Jordan Valley. 27 April 2017

Many people offer payment for our photographs. As stated above we do not charge for these photographs. We take these photographs as our contribution to the running community in Ireland. If you feel that the photograph(s) you request are good enough that you would consider paying for their purchase from other photographic providers we would suggest that you can provide a donation to any of the great charities in Ireland who do work for Cancer Care or Cancer Research in Ireland.

SUCCESSFUL
- Use of one typeface that is altered slightly in each line creates consistent logo design but also variation
- Incorporation of beer bottle with shamrock into the "I" in "IRISH" consistent with theme
- Historical, old style font, consistent with theme of bar (I've been inside - very classic style bar, everything made of wood, etc)
Successful texture for the next model to have that "statue" look.

The 2016 Uvalde National Fish Hatchery annual children’s fishing derby was a resounding success with record participation of 642 children from across the region – an increase of 162 percent compared to last year. Children came from as far away as Del Rio to the west, Brownsville to the south, Houston to the east and San Angelo to the north. An estimated 1,200-1,300 people were present for the event. The successful trade-fair concept of Nobel Biocare, one of the leading companies in implantology and restorative dental solutions, was further developed for the EAO Congress in Rome. Therefore we created a futuristic-looking brand environment, which skillfully combined product showcasing and hospitality. The use of clinical pure white and warm red tones lent the space a scientific, pared-down yet cosy ambience. This effect was enhanced by a new lighting concept and the flowing lines of the walls and furniture.
