After trying it for months, finally I succeeded to take a picture of the waxing crescent.

Two Canadian Pacific SD40-2 locomotives, still in their original paint from 1985, lead a train of empty Herzog ballast cars across the Crawfish River in Hubbleton, Wisconsin, on June 24, 2020. The train is bound for the quarry at Waterloo for a load of ballast. This was the first time I have attempted shooting still photos simultaneously from the air and on the ground. That I succeeded is due mostly to the train moving at only 10 miles per hour.

He struggled to bring this large fish out of the water, but eventually succeeded.

Flickr toys gives us presents a few times each year. These have not been all on Explore. These are my most popular pics that are on flickr. There were many, many more pages because I have over 7000 pics on flickr. For April Fools', this year... I decided that I wanted to display the 4 pages which are my most popular creations and images.

Hazerfan Ahmet Çelebi

Hezarfen Ahmet Celebi (Turkish: Hezarfen Ahmet Çelebi), who lived in the 17th century in Istanbul in the Ottoman Empire, is one of the first aviators to have succeeded in flying with artificial wings. He is supposed to have been inspired by and used the studies of Leonardo da Vinci on the flight of birds. He started flying from the Galata Tower, a high tower in Istanbul, and managed to fly over the Bosporus. The few people known to have succeeded in this kind of flight are an aviator from Moorish Spain and an English monk in the 9th and 12th centuries, respectively. One of Hezarfen's friends Lagari Hasan Celebi is known to have performed the first flight with a rocket in a conical cage filled with gun powder. Ahmet Celebi, because of his vast scientific knowledge was given the name Hezarfen, meaning "a thousand sciences". In his early studies of flying, he was motivated by the 10th century Turkish scientist Ismail Cevheri. Celebi, after carefully studying Cevheri's findings and when he felt confident enough arranged a public demonstration. He climbed the Galata Tower and launched himself into the wind; he passed over the Bosporus and landed in the slopes of Üsküdar on the Anatolian side.

This event created a great sensation. Sultan Murat IV was delighted and wanted to award Hezarfen but religious leaders and palace advisers soon changed his mind. Hezarfen was exiled to Algeria where he died soon at the age of 31.

As once the winged energy of delight

carried you over childhood's dark abysses,

now beyond your own life build the great

arch of unimagined bridges.

Wonders happen if we can succeed

in passing through the harshest danger;

but only in a bright and purely granted

achievement can we realize the wonder.

To work with Things in the indescribable

relationship is not too hard for us;

the pattern grows more intricate and subtle,

and being swept along is not enough.

Take your practiced powers and stretch them out

until they span the chasm between two

contradictions...For the god

wants to know himself in you.

The seven-year itch is a popular belief, that happiness in a marriage or long-term romantic relationship declines after around seven years.

The phrase was used in the title of the play The Seven Year Itch by George Axelrod, and gained popularity following the 1955 film adaptation starring Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell.

The notion of a husband cheating on his wife was considered a completely unacceptable action onscreen during the 1950’s. It was a time when the censors had a field day deciding what they believed was morally accepted. That is why The Seven Year Itch (1955) succeeded and failed at the same time as a film. It failed because Director Billy Wilder was hamstrung by film censor rules and a moral code of decency. Wilder always personally felt that his vision for the film was unjustly compromised. But it succeeded because the forced changes allowed it to play out as a wonderful comedy/fantasy film, teasing the audience about infidelity without actually going too far unlike the stage play it was based on, which actually showed the husband cheating on his wife. For Wilder, who was known for pushing the envelope, by showing themes no one else would dare do, it was a compromise that he eventually accepted and surprisingly for him payed dividends.

The scene in the film, where Marilyn stood over a subway grate and her white dress blew up in the air by a train passing underneath made cinematic history.

It seems like ages that I was last out with my camera, a combination of home decorating, the addition of an adorable puppy to the family and the miserable weather keeping me indoors. I was determined then, that I would get out on this cold, crisp, glorious winters morning with the aim of finding a robin on a frosty branch, to this end, I think I have succeeded...

"It seems natural to liken venerable trees to grand old men. It is something to have lived through storms that try one so terribly, but only succeed in giving greater powers. Even the scars of a tree add dignity, and the loss here and there of a limb only makes for more character... "

Biology which has created humans has not succeeded until now. Humans suffer as I wrote before; there are many people in prisons, hospitals, mental health facilities, war zones, etc. The system helping us when we are in troubles is our brain, but not always functioning well. When it functions well, we are not in danger. Our brain is effected by our feelings. The system which helps us when we are in trouble makes us to land to a jail, hospital, etc. Our body doesn’t have luxury to have different systems in our brain for each case, using the same one for saving us and for bringing us in trouble. Our brain is not properly developed.

When we are in a regulated area, say we are doing some calculations, we do well if we know the rules in mathematics. We don’t do well when we are not in regulated area, no rules. In that case, we are effected by our feelings, we are on our own, there are no regulations to lead us out of troubles.

We have, according a research, ten main feelings; fear, anger, shame, contempt, disgust, guilt, distress, interest, surprise and joy. Overall, we have more than 3000 different feelings, these are the mixture of main feelings. More feelings may make us more sophisticated, but it can bring us in trouble too. It is difficult to handle a lot of different feelings. At some ages or/ and at some cases, we are harder hit from feelings, managing of our thoughts will be difficult with critical thinking. At some cases, we are just managed by our feelings, this is not good.

Biology has not succeeded until now, but we might do well millions of years later if we survive. We correct ourself. It looks like it is in that way for now, we have, somewhat, a healthier society in compare with previous centuries. We may get extinct after some years if changing body functions create a not healthy society.

While we get troubled by a big meteorite ( a giant space rock might hit us in the future ), we don’t look elsewhere. Our real enemy is, "maybe “, we are, changing humans, consequently our society.

I was waiting for a clear shot of the full moon, but there were some persistent clouds in front of my location and the moon. Later that night I succeeded in taking a shot of a clear full moon.

There were lots of clear sky around, but it took a while before it was clear between me and the moon...

Afterwards I did some editing to get more details and colors (halo) to get a more vivacious image.

Nope, I don't have a super-large telescope at home for observing the galaxies - not yet ;-)

So I have to help myself in the kitchen: It is an m&m's candy melting in water while being rotated (with a fidget-spinner and black surface below tha glass).

Two flashes flat from the side with a little soft-box each.

The m&m's has been removed in post (respectively swallowed by the black hole). The little bright dots are air bubbles which are enhanced with clarity.

It was an orange candy, I changed the color with white balance.

Actually I wanted to achieve an effect whith looks like a "Cyclone" (rhyming to "Stone" for Macro Mondays), but I didn't really succeed with that.

The fantastic phenomenon of "melting" m&m's can better be seen here, without rotation:

Been very busy since I got to Japan. I'll really need to catch up double time soon.. :|

I put this on Lego Ideas, because I think it might be a nice display model. So check out the link if you want to see it succeed. Thank you for your support!

So I won a place in the LEGOLAND Billund Gallery and the entry I chose was actually too big to fit. Ever tried shrinking a model? Yeah, you better start from scratch. At least that’s what I did. I laid out the size it can have, so that I could transport it in a box and within that frame I started to build the base again. The build is now in a cabinet at LEGOLAND for the season 2022.

succeeded at last !!!

It is best to discard the fruit as well as the sprouted seeds. The sprouts of tomato seeds are toxic, so you should not eat the fruit. And since tomatoes purchased at the grocery are likely to be hybrid in origin, the plants grown from their seeds would be of unpredictable quality.

If at first you don't succeed...

As I mentioned yesterday, I wasn't satisfied with the look of my first tulip and mist picture. Here is my second attempt. I am much happier with the overall look of this one.

Setup Info: Basically the same setup as yesterday's shot, except I moved the camera back and I changed out the blue gels for a single green gel. For lighting, you have an SB-600 flash through a 24"x24" softbox camera left and high lighting the flower. For the background, you have empty space behind the flower to create a "black" environment. Then, I placed an SB-600 flash with a green gel on it on the floor pointed straight up. Standing on a ladder to camera right, I sprayed a mist of water into the air before the shot and then hit the remote, which lit the water mist with green light. I took a setup shot that I'll post this afternoon.

Here's the setup shot: www.flickr.com/photos/lighthack/4521773160/

As Olga noticed, I did go with a "mirror" effect mirroring the image horizontally. It looked fine without doing this, but doing the mirror effect, with it's symmetry, really finished off the image for me. Other than the mirror, this is close to being straight out of the camera -- the lights really did the work on this one.

One of my favorite details in this image is the refraction of the light through the bottom "bulb" portion of the vase.

Something was out of control.

Don't rejoice for future views, I intervened it.

One last/or latest post.

All the best.

Male Green Orb Weaver (Araniella cucurbitina) trying to hide from me.....!

At only 3mm he very nearly succeeded.....

6th attempt (out of 7 in total) succeeded to render both the sense of the abandoned house and the withered ivy which has grabbed a good portion of its outside and inside walls. The lil green portion visible on the bottom left side of the window is an ivy from the inside of the home where the plants are alive and keep growing.

The Haiku I've written related to my photo is enclosed in a comment box below. Here's the prose:

Nature exploding, grabbing everything, even what's dead or abandoned. Nature keeps going, growing, developing, spreading a sense of life...That's very comforting. Even here, although the ivy has gone, dried up, it can be seen in the inside of the house it's alive and keeps growing, even in conditions of almost absence of light, apart the presence of a hole where once there was a window. Now the window is leaning inside, the glass is broken into sections, recalling a guillotine as saying "don't come inside!" Ok ok, just my imagination for a storytelling...

I would have never imagined I could sort out something beautiful from such ruins... Here, I framed exactly the centre of the window hole, I could move my hand with a rather drastic precision, therefore the result came out spectacular.

Notice also: I've done nightime, the soltice time could still let me see in darkness. It was 9.40 pm CET+1

I know this effect can be obtained digitally, but, do it yourself manually and, if you succeed, savor the satisfaction ;-)

Mitt bidrag till veckans fotosöndag ,My contribution to this week photosunday on the theme Bokstäver/Letters .

"I have failed at more things than most will ever try. Of what I've tried, I've succeeded more often than I have failed"

Will you succeed in slaying the dragon? Or shall your sword join the rest below? Moss shall swallow your blade... or my bones...

We couldn't let this Iron Builder sneak by without a dragon... :)

Built for our Iron Builder round against Tyler (Legohaulic) and Michaela (Littlehaulic)! The seed part is the yellow rounded 1x2 slope.

Ngl, I completely forgot I had this, and a bunch of others, hence the massive gap between this and the blood teller. So, like last time, let's get into the story:

'Be wary, dear traveller, of he who can raise the dead. He goes by many names. King of the Risen, the Black King, The Eternal howling, but most refer to him as the Risen King. Once thought to be a legend, the Risen King travels the land, followed by his legion of the dead, his loyal followers, deadly in battle and with unimaginable strength.

It is said that he was once a mortal man, a King of a faraway land centuries ago. He was a fair and noble leader, until he found...the rock. The rock, emanating a mysterious purple glow, caused a change in the King, he became obsessed with escaping death. Though the nature of the rock is unknown, it is said that he carried it around with him for the rest of his days, and when he did inevitably die, he was buried with it.

His son succeeded him as ruler, and the country carried on. Until ten years after his death, the royal tomb cracked open, a purple fog flowing from it. Any caught in the fog were killed instantly. But not for long. Within a week, the city was overwhelmed, within a month the land itself. A message was soon sent to the then King of our country, a dire warning:

'All within this land are claimed by the Risen King'

No cry for help, just a simple statement. It is not known who sent that message, if they were living or...dead. With that, the decision was taken to scorch the Risen Kings kingdom, burning the Legions of the dead away, until the land was left barren, inhospitable to life, as well as the dead.

But he survived. Washed up on the shore of our lands, Seen by no one, he disappeared, roaming the land, claiming the dead of our country as his legion. His Army. Be wary traveller, of the Risen King and his legion of lost souls.'

And that's the story of the Risen King, told as a ghost story, but treated as fact. As always, please lemme know what you think :D

Life can be a struggle. So far, so good! Against the odds.

The Penguins have succeeded in finding the secrets of flight! The Penguin Viper is a Multi-role aircraft for the nation that is capable of full air superiority. The two man and one penguin fitter hosts two devastating missiles and four wing mounted cannons, not to mention the penguin turret. Two retractable landing gear are also provided with hatches. The main wings of the fighter can fold at the ends and air flaps are situated behind the main wings. Three robust engine are equipped to gain superiority over other aircraft.

I had a lot of fun building this one. The whole model ended up twice as long as I originally intended, but I think it turned out really well!

Nutt succeeded her friend Arthur Lismer at the helm of the Victoria School of Art ( Now NSCAD University ) in 1919, a post she held for twenty-five years. The support she gave to women artists was instrumental in the development of the art of the region, while her ability to capture the distinctive light of Atlantic sea and sky secured her a special place in the art history of the Maritimes.

Pope John Paul II (Latin: Ioannes Paulus II; Italian: Giovanni Paolo II; Polish: Jan Paweł II; born Karol Józef Wojtyła 18 May 1920 – 2 April 2005) was head of the Catholic Church and sovereign of the Vatican City State from 1978 to 2005. He was elected pope by the second papal conclave of 1978, which was called after Pope John Paul I, who had been elected in August to succeed Pope Paul VI, died after 33 days. Cardinal Wojtyła was elected on the third day of the conclave and adopted the name of his predecessor in tribute to him. John Paul II is recognised as helping to end Communist rule in his native Poland and eventually all of Europe. (Wikipedia)

Sekihoku Line is one of the severest line for Japan Railway Freight. However, they operate one set of container train every day in Autumn and Winter in order to transport potato and onion harvested in Hokkaido. DF200 "RED BEAR" succeeded this operation from JNR-Class DD51 in 2014.

Her face shows extreme cold atmosphere of inland region of Hokkaido Island, which was at -17 degree Celsius when I visited there.

Because of steep slopes on Sekihoku Line and direction change in Engaru-Station, the train is pushed by another DF200.

I watched this little guy for about twenty minutes trying to swallow this catfish. It finally succeeded in doing so and went right back to fishing!
