Trees (1 of 4): Can't live with them, can't live without them (Sydney northern suburbs - where there are [still] BIG trees...)
This happened after a big storm: a lot of trees "came down". Shallow root systems get waterlogged after inundations and this can be what happens. I hate to think of how much of it would be happening in association with recent floods. :-(

The Moonee Ponds Creek between Strathmore and Pascoe Vale, Victoria
This is a story of the slow transformation of one of Melbourne's waterways, the Moonee Ponds Creek in the northern suburbs.
Much of the creek was concreted during the construction of the Tullamarine Freeway in the 1960s and simply became a large and pretty ugly drain, a far cry from the lovely preexisting natural environment.
Pressure from the local community over a number oif years led to Melbourne Water working with the community to restore a part of the creek to a more natural environment over the last 18 months and this photo shows the interface between the old and the new.
My local Rotary club (to which I belong) organised an Australia Day walk along the creek to showcase this and we were truly amazed at the transformation!
In a period with not a lot of good news around, it is relatively small things like this which restore some sense of hope.
My first try at capturing lightning. If you're in the right place at the right time, it's not too difficult. ;-) The thunderstorm came in right over our house. All I had to do was set up on the tripod, set the camera on bulb, and kept the shutter open for 10-15 seconds at a time until there was a strike.

Escondido, California
I bought a huge lot of slides at a local antique shop. Unfortunately, most of them are very uninteresting. There are a few shots of a parade in Escondido and a few of Disneyland, though.
I made a Ford LTD Country Squire as a Speed Champions car, and I made this little diorama too.

As an alter ego to my "Suburbs In The City" portfolio I began "Sleepwalking" in 2018. Taken at night and in black and white the photos depict a quiet suburban neighborhood void of people even though it's in the city.
A bit of Everton / Liverpool FC rivalry here maybe ? On the edge of Liverpool we found several streets of boarded up terraces waiting for demolition, the good news is they were being cleared to make way for new housing.

As you can see from this shot, the Turin suburbs end and then the Alps begin......

From Wikipedia : "Turin is located in northwest Italy. It is surrounded on the western and northern front by the Alps and on the eastern front by a high hill that is the natural continuation of the hills of Monferrato. Four major rivers pass through the city: the Po and three of its tributaries, the Dora Riparia (once known as Duria Minor by the Romans, from the Celtic noun duria meaning "water"), the Stura di Lanzo and the Sangone."

This classy little suburb in North Bloomfield was once home to a burgeoning middle class of grisly miners. It was common for them to spend their weekends doing the garden, digging the weeds and washing the clothes. I bet they even ran next door to borrow a cup of sugar now and then. Well... maybe it was like that, but more likely the weekends were spent nursing hangovers and repairing the holes that were kicked through the walls during those drunken frenzied Friday night brawls. Those miners weren't exactly "Kenmore appliance" kind of guys.
