My nephew is a painter, a mural artist primarily and has been telling me about the exceptional pieces he has been generating using AI. So I stuck a tiny toe into the water without much success.
Yes, I have a subscription to MidJourney but am not proficient enough to produce anything yet.
After seeing what is happening on flickr, I am both interested and terrified and wondering what the future holds for photography, especially as it applies to art.
I decided to follow the photostream of a photographer here who has made the leap from 100% photography to 100% AI over about 10 months. The images he produces are creatively and technically jaw-dropping. Ditto for another photographer I follow who appears to have made the transition as well.
My photography would never stand up against these images as wall art. Would anyone's?
Of course it immediately brings up the issue of disclosure. For one of these photographers, it is 100% disclosed as AI. The other does not disclose and simply calls it "art". So, are there elements that are real with his photographs with the rest being partially enhanced by AI? Only the photographer knows.
I am returning to flickr after a hiatus and there are many changes. Is the responsibility of the photographer to disclose AI images outlined somewhere.. or are there no standards?
For the record (and my own personal disclosure standards) this image is partially AI. I took the photo of the red columbine at a local lake. The bee was added by using generative fill in Photoshop.
The implications are staggering and way beyond a flickr post, but the camera companies have to be reeling. Will photography only be used for journalism in the future.. if even that?
What is your take on this whole new realm?

The Notre-Dame-de-Toute-Prudence chapel is a Catholic chapel located on the Col de l'Iseran, in the municipality of Bonneval-sur-Arc, approximately 2,770 m above sea level1.
It begins near the road that passes through the highest mountain pass in France, to connect the Maurienne and Tarentaise valleys.
It was built shortly after the opening of the road inaugurated by the President of the Republic Albert Lebrun on July 10, 1937, at the initiative of the bishop of Maurienne, Mons. Auguste Grumel. His project had been supported by Pope Pius XI, who had practiced mountaineering.
Completed in 1939, it was built according to the plans of the Savoyard architect Maurice Novarina and the company that had laid out the road. The building is made of local stone and the roof is slate. The two statues of the Virgin are by the sculptor Edgar Delvaux.
Financing was achieved through subscriptions and private donations, including from the Vatican. The blessing of the chapel by the bishop took place on August 20, 1939.
It is labeled “20th Century Heritage”.
To be totally honest, to me, this is the best photo I have ever taken and still out of all the groups it is in, it has at very little reaction considering. Going through groups since the Flickr restrictions came into force, Im finding that the majority of photos are now just basic amateur snaps of holidays etc and the more competent photographers dont appear to be using groups anymore. I think Flickr is finished unless it puts things back as they were but anyway, its not going to survive. Im not prepared to spend 8 hours a day on this site trawling through photos or adding more friends that I cant keep up with so its groups or nothing for me! I Wont be left with any option but to leave.
.......................................................................................................................
View across the estuary at dusk, towards Dublin Airport and the town of Malahide in the distance. I dont think I have ever seen anything more beautiful. Isnt nature just astounding!!
" Near Oranmore in the county Galway,
One pleasent evening in the month of May,
I spied a maiden, she was fair and handsome.
And her beauty fair stole my breath away "
" She worn no jewels or costly diamonds "
" No paint or powder no none at all "
" But she wore a bonnet with a ribbon on it,"
" And round her shoulders was a Galway shawl "
P@t.
Just to say that I think the new group add restrictions being imposed on all of us by Flickr are appalling.
I have protested to them in the strongest possible terms.
I will withdraw my subscription if the decision isnt reverted.
P@t..

I have reprocessed my recent image of The Heart Nebula IC1805 to commemorate Valentine’s Day. For the Hubble Palette image this time I have used the naturally colored stars from the RGB (Color) image. The process involved making the Hubble Palette images starless and then inserting the stars.
I'm very humbled that this image was selected by Steve Astromag's AmateurAstrophotographyEzine on Instagram as Image Of The Day
www.instagram.com/p/B8iYTrxplQQ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link
Sprawling across almost 200 light-years, emission nebula IC 1805 is a mix of glowing interstellar gas and dark dust clouds. Derived from its Valentine's-Day-approved shape, its nickname is the Heart Nebula. About 7,500 light-years away in the Perseus spiral arm of our galaxy, stars were born in IC 1805. In fact, near the cosmic heart's center are the massive hot stars of a newborn star cluster also known as Melotte 15, about 1.5 million years young. A little ironically, the Heart Nebula is located in the constellation of the mythical Queen of Aethiopia (Cassiopeia). This deep view of the region around the Heart Nebula spans about two degrees on the sky or about four times the diameter of the Full Moon.
I also made a video from the 4 images I used showing the fade from Hubble Palette and Hubble Palette Starless to Color to Color Starless. It can be viewed here:

Captured from Grand Mesa Observatory’s system 1 the Takahashi FSQ 130 (available on our subscriptions) using a QHY367C full frame One Shot Color CMOS camera with Chroma Narrowband Filters.
In this Hubble Palette version the H-Alpha is mapped to green, SII is mapped to red and OIII is mapped to the blue channel. While the colors in this image are not the true colors, the narrowband filters used in the making of this Hubble Palette image reveal much more of the hidden gasses not visible in a broadband image.
Captured over 5 nights in October 2019 for a total acquisition time of 31.8 hours.

Recently restored Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad Subscription Club Car no. 2454 is seen on the end of the Whippany Railway Museum's excursion train on May 19, 2024, during the museum's 175th Anniversary of the CNJ event. Originally built by Barney & Smith in 1912 as open platform subscription car 484, the car was converted to a vestibule-equipped multiple unit (MU) trailer in the 1930s by American Car & Foundry. It was one of only five MU subscription cars built for the railroad, and operated on a service between Hoboken and Gladstone catering to the wealthy members of the club. Notably the car was the only Lackawanna MU to ever receive air conditioning, and was the lead car on multiple farewell runs for these cars, including the very last NJ Transit train that used the Lackawanna MUs in 1984. Car 2454 was acquired by the United Railway Historical Society of NJ, which began restoration of it in 2014. Exterior restoration was completed by 2018 and the car was moved to Whippany in 2019, where interior restoration would take place, coming to completion in 2021.

The Grade II* Listed Ellis Windmill on Mill Road in Lincoln, Lincolnshire.
At one time nine windmills stood along the west face of Mill Road over the steep slopes of the Lincoln Edge, these days only Ellis Windmill which was built in 1798 remains. There are documentary references to mills along the road from the early 16th century.
Tower mill of 3 floors with 4 sails, ogee domed wooden cap and fantail. Construction of brick painted black. Door on ground level. Horizontally sliding square windows with stone sills and segmental arches.
The first recorded owner of Ellis’ Mill was a wealthy landowner named Anthony Meres. It went through a succession of owners until December 1894 when John Ellis bought the mill for £250. He died in 1920, but his wife and son successively retained ownership until 1973. The mill was still in working order in 1940, but lost its sails in 1941, when Frank Ellis was the miller.
The Mill remained fully operational until it fell into receivership in 1973 and in 1974 a fire destroyed all of the remaining woodwork. In 1977 the Lincoln Civic Trust acquired the mill and began its reconstruction, led by Chris Salisbury, millwright.
A cap mechanism was acquired from ‘Subscription Mill’ in Sturton-by-Stow and the stones and drives from ‘Eno’s Mill’ at Toynton-all-Saints and the sails and fantail were made by Thompson and Co from Alford. The reconstruction was completed in 1980 and milling began again in 1981. Lincolnshire County Council took it over in 1995.
The brick foundations of an ancillary building in the north-east part of the site were recorded in 2006, along with a short length of brick wall and a stone wall or foundation immediately north of the mill. Ellis Mill remains a working mill producing flour and is open to the public on Saturday afternoons.

Among the closest star clusters is M45, colloquially known as the "Seven Sisters". Due to its close proximity (a mere 440 light-years), and population of extremely hot and luminous stars, it can be easily seen with the naked eye near the constellation of Taurus. The number of visible stars in this open cluster can quickly tell an astronomer how dark a location is on a night of observation. Up to fourteen of the more than one thousand stars in M45 can be seen with the unaided eye.
The bright blue clouds surrounding the stars forms a reflection nebula known as the Maia Nebula. The enormous cloud of dust reflects the light from the hot young stars and was once assumed to be the remnants of the young stars' births, but is now known to be the serendipitous interaction of this unrelated dusty region being illuminated by the open cluster of stars passing through its interstellar neighborhood.
Built in 1813 by a local farmer to mill grain, this mill has 3 floors and was built to a Lincolnshire style. It has 4 sails and an Ogee cap with an 8 bladed fantail.
There are 3 sets of mill stones, 2 of which are wind driven and 1 set which are driven from an external engine.
In 1884 the mill was extended and gained an extra floor.
The windmill has continued to work from the day it was built up to present day.
