Jo Bissonnet, a BAAT Art Therapist from Norfolk Community Healthcare has submitted four incredibly moving images created during sessions over a two year period with a young man who was living with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a condition causing a rapid progression of muscle degeneration, which eventually leads to paralysis and death.
This image, and the others on show, give a moving first person account of what it is like to be a child and teenager who is aware that their life and experiences will end at a young age, and give the viewer an insight into what it’s like to live with that knowledge.
This is perhaps the most striking image in the series - a photograph of a model man sitting in a wheelchair, which has been upturned and is sinking into a body of sand. The client himself died at the age of fourteen. His mother has given her permission to have the work shown to others in order to promote art therapy as a form of psychological help for others in similar situations.

Advocate Europe is an idea challenge for innovative European projects. We are looking for original and transnational project proposals that foster connection and cohesion in Europe. "Advocate Europe" is open to civil society actors who seek financing and support to realise sustainable ideas. These can come from fields as diverse as civic education, arts and culture or social innovation. We fund around twelve project ideas with up to €50,000 each and support their realisation through mentoring and networking activities.
How do we want to live in future? What is the ‘culture of welcome’ we should extend to refugees arriving in Europe? What is the future of social services and welfare systems in Europe? These are some of the questions that the winning project ideas of the Advocate Europe idea challenge are trying to answer.
Out of 575 submitted proposals, the expert jury has selected ten winning projects which use innovative means to foster cohesion and connection in Europe. In June the teams met in Berlin for the Networking Meeting.

Member submitted photos of Civil Air Patrol members in action with Col Guertin, as well as photos of her treasured book. Col Carolyn Guertin is an original member of CAP and Virginia Wing. She joined as a cadet on the first day CAP took membership applications and has been an active member of VAWG ever since. Her 92nd birthday was 29 June 2020. We created a physical photo album with some of these photos that was presented to her directly on her birthday along with birthday cards from units and members from across the nation.
