What could be sweeter than baby buns nestled close in fraternal bliss. Ah, but they grow up so fast.

I've noticed my photos may be a little too dark and muted lately. (if that's possible ;-)
I tried to lighten this one up so it's easier to view the details.
Jennifer Cole, a nurse in NY, wrote a long, sad, an emotional post on her personal Facebook page (that has since been taken down and can currently be found here: www.facebook.com/victoryfortoday/posts/624955148134778 with a selfie. After reading it, I couldn't stop thinking about her face. I had been working on faces and struggling to get the emotion, particularly, the eyes and proportions right. But in her photograph, the eyes said it all. There was so much emotion pouring out of her that I couldn't get it out of my mind. I knew I had to paint it. Most images take a lot of trial and error to get the underlying sketch correct, but I tried some loose sketching and it worked. I then traced my sketch with pen and began painting. I think I finished around 3 a.m. the next morning. In some ways, I feel like I let her emotions and words fill me and then I tried to put them back on the paper with pen and paint. I remember thinking, "Her eyes are darker; her face, more sallow" and noticing things like her watery eyes and the lines of her forehead. Jennifer Cole is part of this history. My heart goes out to those on the front lines, the healthcare workers and others working tirelessly to save lives.

Floppy (Avery) decides that one of her pet humans is worth of petting her head.
Notice that she doesn't look all that happy about it. Clearly I'm living on her sufferance at the moment this picture is taken, and the moment I stop petting her, my usefulness to her is ended. Or she might just get up and leave. It's hard to tell with her some times-- unlike Seamus, who loves being petted, instead of just merely tolerating all of these humans who share his space.
About the only real plus side is that when she's in this position, you get a split second of warning before she gets up and charges the camera.
POLE WALKING HOLIDAY LIGHT TOUR
Bayfield Urban Pole Walkers would like to invite community members to join them in an hour-long, evening walk through the village streets to look at all the beautiful outdoor Christmas decorations on Friday, Dec. 9. The group will depart at 5:30 p.m. from 6 Main Street. Participants can pole walk as there are poles that can be borrowed or just walk. After the tour anyone who wishes can join the group for drinks and/or dinner at The Ashwood Bourbon Bar. (Submitted photo)
