Photo Caption: This feisty young woman was not deterred by one blind eye from enjoying life. You only live once she said and there was no point in crying about something one did not have control over. We couldn\'t agree more with her philosophy and gave her a tattoo on the cornea to camouflage the disfigurement.

Family History: Manual Castro came from Hawaii with his parents when he was only several months old. When he was about 18 years old he worked for a rock crushing company called Pratt Rock. It was located adjacent to Bidwell Street (on the south between the railroad spur and the main railroad track running along Folsom Blvd. Manual (Manny) died at age 75 in 1975.
Why Folsom area: They came because they had relatives here already. The men worked for Natomas Company.
Circa 1918. Manual Castro and his co-workers standing in front of Prattrock Rock and Sand. The company is located adjacent to Bidwell Street on the south west corner of the intersection of Folsom Blvd. Largest employer in the Folsom area. Manual was standing on the far right.
