The world's very first television tower is to be found in Stuttgart. After a construction period lasting 20 months, the Stuttgart Television Tower was inaugurated on 5th Feburary 1956. It became a prototype that was imitated refined all over the world. Originally the Süddeutscher Rundfunk (South German Broadcasting Company) had intended to install its antennas on top of a 200-metre-high, guyed iron lattice mast. However, Professor Fritz Leonhardt, the famous Stuttgart bridge builder and structural engineer, proposed a concrete tower instead. Today the Television Tower is one of Stuttgart´s best-known landmarks.

Stuttgart is primary known as an automobile city. The automobile was invented here and brands like Mercedes-Benz or Porsche are located with their company headquarter and production here. Some people also know it for it's technology companies like BOSCH or the European headquarters of IBM, Hewlett & Packard and others. So Stuttgart is somehow an mixture between Detroit and Silicon Valley ;-)
Not as much known as this is the long history of Stuttgart beeing a wine-growing district long before industrialization. And it is still today.
It's wine is not as popular and good as for example in Bordeaux (France) oder other famous wine-growing districts. But it's red wine is pretty nice and the white wine is great.
It's also great for escaping the busy city and having some walks through peaceful vine-yards in a few minutes.
