The red and white fibers are entering the hippocampus. “There is clearly extraordinary three-dimensional structure to the connections of the hippocampus, which is presumably important in coding information,” says Wedeen. “Only in a few instances do we know what the organization of these fiber bundles is.” Understanding the structure of these subunits of the brain could shed light on how they work, as well as on how they develop.

Stuttering Barred Frog (Mixophyes balbus), Northern Tablelands, New South Wales

I was excited to see one of these endangered frogs up here and it would be the furthest north in NSW they've been recorded.

I recall once on the church steps,

When I moved to kiss your chest,

How we paid such close attention

To each sweet and stuttered breath,

I should've stopped to paint our picture,

Captured honest pure affection,

Just to document the difference between attraction and connection.

I can see all of my friends and

I break into empty buildings,

When the coast was clear,

With backpacks full of beer,

We'd throw our bottles from the rooftops

At the city; it looked endless.

Guess I still don't see the difference between real purpose and that urgent adolescence.

And I remember in a basement sharing sweat

With all these stranger boys and girls,

"We'll change the world!" We sang,

"We'll change the world!" But,

Nothing seems to change and

They say none of them will listen,

But I still see much more power in that basement than in heartless politicians.

And if we get beaten by this winter,

If we get strangled by regret, just

Let our love of life and tension

Gasp in sweet and stuttered breaths, and

Have them lay us in a basement,

Smash some bottles on the ground, and

Say we couldn't tell the difference between the feeling and the sound,

Stumble and Stutter Foam Party - Nambucca - 29/03/08

With stuttering, viewers-turned-participants use their entire bodies to touch and trigger activation points laid out in a Mondrian-styled grid. Move quickly, and the piece will itself stutter in a barrage of audiovisual verbiage; move carefully, even cautiously – stutter with your body – and both meaning and bodies emerge.

Betty Jean (BJ) Nunnemaker Patterson has fond memories of Home Room 309 and Sister Mary her home room teacher. She also remembers Fr. Malone, and his stuttering. He would say "uh" a lot, and during one class BJ decided to count how may times he said it, making a mark to record each occurrence during class. Toward the end of class Sr. Mary, who had been watching her the whole time, approached her to ask what she was doing. BJ's response was, "Uhhhhh!". Fr. Malone would allow them to put questions into a box, which he would then draw out and the identity of the person who asked would not be known. One one occassion the question was "is French kissing a mortal sin?" which caused him to stutter and turn very red. He wanted to know who would want to do this anyway.

BJ also shared greetings from some of the classmates who were unable to attend: Elaine Kinsley lives in Albuquerque and had surgery recently; Joyce Holston had a conflict; Mary McCullom had previously scheduled a cruise on this weekend, Beverly Kruse Traverse teaches math at a school in Buffalo NY and is still in session; Mary Ann Spexarth Ast had a grandchild getting married in Oklahoma this weekend. All hated to miss the opportunity.

Inter Milan got the new year off to a stuttering start after mid-table Cagliari ended their eight-game winning streak with a 1-1 draw at the San Siro.

The Serie A leaders went into the game with a six-point lead over nearest rivals Juventus, but any hopes of extending or even maintaining that advantage seemed slim after Robert Acquafresca gave the 13th-placed visitors a shock lead after 65 minutes.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic levelled 12 minutes from time to preserve Inter’s unbeaten home record this season, but Jose Mourinho’s men never got into their stride in the game and could see their lead at the top cut to four points should Juve see off Siena tomorrow.

Meanwhile Genoa moved into a share of fourth place in Serie A after starting the year with a thumping 3-0 win over Torino.

Giuseppe Biava headed the Rossoblu ahead in the 18th minute and Bosko Jankovic added a second in the 48th minute.

A third header, this time from Thiago Motta five minutes from time, earned Genoa all three points and lifted them above Napoli in the table, level on points with Fiorentina.

During the early stages of the 1999 World Cup Glenn McGrath struggled to recapture the form of his first tour to England two years before. He was stuttering like Australia, who needed to beat West Indies at Old Trafford to progress to the Super Six stage following losses to New Zealand and Pakistan. McGrath had a plan, but rather than carry it quietly he made a very public announcement. In his newspaper column he predicted he'd take care of the worrying threat of Brian Lara and grab five wickets. Nobody else in the team would have contemplated the rhetoric, especially someone operating below his best.

The self-belief and manufactured pressure spurred McGrath to a brilliant performance that secured Australia's passage to the next stage. West Indies were blown away for 110 and McGrath, who was back opening after a first-change experiment, picked up 5 for 14 off 8.4 overs. Most importantly, he fulfilled his claim that he would topple Lara. Lara arrived to face McGrath's hat-trick after the dismissals of Sherwin Campbell and Jimmy Adams, moving to 9 before falling to a superb delivery. Mark Waugh might suggest Lara played around the ball, but his bowling team-mates say it angled on middle and clipped the top of off. After taking three top-order wickets in 14 balls, McGrath completed his collection with two tail-enders to show his predictions were worth listening to.

“George VI (Albert Frederick Arthur George; 14 December 1895 – 6 February 1952) was King of the United Kingdom and the Dominions of the British Commonwealth from 11 December 1936 until his death in 1952. He was also the last Emperor of India from 1936 until the British Raj was dissolved in August 1947, and the first head of the Commonwealth following the London Declaration of 1949.

The future George VI was born during the reign of his great-grandmother Queen Victoria; he was named Albert at birth after his great-grandfather Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and was known as "Bertie" to his family and close friends. His father ascended the throne as George V in 1910. As the second son of the king, Albert was not expected to inherit the throne. He spent his early life in the shadow of his elder brother, Edward, the heir apparent. Albert attended naval college as a teenager and served in the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force during the First World War. In 1920, he was made Duke of York. He married Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon in 1923, and they had two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret. In the mid-1920s, he engaged speech therapist Lionel Logue to treat his stutter, which he learned to manage to some degree. I had car troubles tonight.

Either the battery is hosed, I have a loose connection or my alternator is dead. The dreaded "click, click, click" came rapidly stuttering when I turned the key after filling up at the gas pump. That sinking feeling of "Oh Crap!" came on swiftly. A couple of calls later and I had jumper cables on and started it back up like nothing was wrong.

My solution: go for a ride on the highway to juice up the battery.

Road Trip!

I brought my camera bag up to the front seat and got the camera out and prepped for action, should any come my way. Then I took off for a jaunt North up I-55 to Elkhart, Illinois. It's about 20 miles up from where I started, and a good enough trip to give the battery, if that's what the problem is, a charging.

On the way there, the setting sun had my eye looking for a great landscape scene. Off in the distance I saw this clump of trees at a slight rise in the flat prairie farm landscape. A nice tableau with the setting sun and the clear blue sunset sky.

Down went my window and I fired off several captures, carefully paying more attention to the road flying by at 70 miles per hour than to my framing. This one came out best.

I especially like the reflection of the sun off both the frontage road and the lanes of the highway leading to the sun, then the trees. The blue to orange sky is icing on the cake.

I got back home, backed into the driveway just in case, and turned off the car.

I tried to start it back up immediately: "Click, Click, Click"

Looks like my Saturday will involve a bit of car repair.
