Janitzio es una pequeña isla volcánica en el medio del Lago Pátzcuaro, ubicado en el estado mexicano de Michoacán. Durante siglos, los indígenas purépechas han pescado en él con redes en forma de mariposa. El lago sufre de exceso de pesca y, mientras los peces se recuperan, los habitantes han adoptado el turismo como fuente de ingresos. A lo largo de los estrechos senderos hay muchas tiendas que venden comidas y artesanías a los turistas que llegan en bote. No hay autos en la isla, de manera que resulta muy agradable caminar. En la punta de la isla hay una estatua de 48 metros de altura del héroe independentista José María Morelos. Se puede entrar en la estatua, subir a la parte superior, y disfrutar de la vista del pueblo y el lago. Los visitantes pueden regresar al continente por medio de un relajante paseo de media hora en bote.
