This is a male Silver-studded Blue butterfly showing its silver studs in the black pupils around the hindwing margin. It occurs primarily on lowland heathlands but a few colonies also occur on limestone. Its caterpillars feed on a variety of plants including gorse, heather and rock-rose, but they also have a relationship with black ants of the genus Lasius. Ants carry the young larvae into their nests where they tend and protect them, presumably for the sugary solutions they exude. But it is not known whether they actually feed on ant larvae (like Large Blues do), but at night the caterpillars emerge from the ants' nests to feed on vegetation. Female Silver-studded Blues selectively lay eggs on vegetation close to Black Ant nests.

'ALL A QUIVER ...'
This image shows the moment a rather worn male Silver-studded Blue located a female. She was one of only two I saw during my visit.
He fluttered down to where she was perched and landed facing her, very close. Immediately she responded and started quivering her wings frantically whilst he stroked her antenna. This then induced her to open and raise the tip of her abdomen to an almost vertical position. I was hopeful of seeing them mate and catching some images, but their actions stopped abruptly when a Dark Green Fritillary dashed past. It spooked them sufficiently to make them fly off in different directions!
My image was a grab shot, but if viewed larger you can just make out the male’s left antenna moving over the top of the female’s. Also, check out her elevated abdomen. Such a pity they were disturbed ...

The car by itself is about 8 studs wide (with a tiny 1/2 stud bit of overhang on each side due to the front wheel wells) and 28 studs long in total. As a side note, the headlights are not clipped in the same way as the original set had, and are instead sandwiched in place with 1 x 6 plates and headlight bricks.
So I've been watching a Youtube Channel a lot lately called 3DBotMaker and on that channel, they race Diecast cars down a mountain and do their videos in such a professional manner that I keep enjoying them.
So that is the introduction as to where I found this scene that I am building in Stud.io to see where I can go with it. This first part is this store and patio where there are going to be some announcers set up under this canopy.
I would like to hear your comments on this build.
I've been using LDD for a couple of years, and recently downloaded the latest build of stud.io to take another look; and I think I'm going to stick to LDD for a little longer.
What I didn't like about stud.io
- It doesn't seem to like or allow connections with some parts: I couldn't get a 3M cross axle with end stop (24316) to connect with a technic half beam.
- Import from LDD has many parts jumbled up.
- The floor grid makes it really hard to see the bottom of your model and you can't turn it off (?).
Does anyone else have any experiences that might change my mind?

The rare Silver-studded blue butterflies (Plebejus argus) are gradually making a comeback on our local heathland in West Sussex. With a wingspan of 3cm, they should start emerging towards the end of this month (June). As they rarely move more than 50 metres in their lifetime, colonizing new sites is a slow process. I produced this photo-montage of several of the species for the local parish magazine cover. © David Hill.
Sleepy stud on the beach today. Nice body, not an ounce of flab. Dreaming of something nice, I imagine....
Anything goes theme for Feb STUD sent to Quiltsgaloreandmore. I used Moda Authentic fabric and templates...very daunting....but it turned out to be very easy!
