Doing a little interior design work for Cybil's new studio. Hardwood floors, white molding, buttercup yellow paint on the walls, far wall draped in a warm green raw silk, dark cherry stained furniture.

A modular skyscraper that is the home of “The Daily Stud”, which delivers the latest news through the city!

This is by far my biggest build and it was also the most challenging one. It also took extremely long from the first digital design to the final build, since I was unable to move a stud for almost 2 years, due to building a real house. ;-) Most of the design was actually finished almost 3 years ago, so quite a bit before LEGO released the Daily Bugle. When that happened I lost the motivation to really finish it, but I finally re-visited it some months ago to finally finish it.

The skyscraper has 8 floors, which are fully furnished. It sits on two standard baseplates, is 107cm high and weighs about 16,2kg. The build contains 22.801 pieces and consists of 9 modules. It can be easily integrated into existing city layouts following the modular standard.

Here we are laying out the wall studs in their approximate locations. We had marked the plates with lines where the studs will go - one every 16 inches. They should have been laid out standing on the narrow side, since that's the way they will be nailed onto the plates, but it was no big deal on this job.

The studded ring. Our batling dreams come true. Oh - to own one of these exquisite goth accessories would be the true ecstacy of life (and goth). Okay, we may not be batlings anymore, however, we still enjoy the little things in life - like this childhood dream of studded-leather-ringness.

I deliberated over how to put the studs in for this face for a while. I knew the bottom joist would be really long and potentially not too sturdy if I didn't get it solidly in there, so I wanted all the vertical studs screwed into it well (the screws going from the underside of the joist up into each stud.) That wasn't going to be possible if I put the joist on the frame first.

I laid the joist sideways, and lined the studs up against it on the ground, and assembled the whole thing laying down. Then I carefully stood it up into the frame and propped it up on some scrap wood. The studs didn't all quite line up (not a surprise, given the scale of this stuff.)

I finally ended up getting the jack out of the trunk of my car and putting it underneath each stud, jacking it up until the stud was snug against the frame above it, and toenailing some screws in to secure it. Lower the jack, move on. It worked remarkably well.

Totally fed up with being horizontal after my operation the "Gang" and I with me hobbling along on crutches behind decided to take an afternoon to go around the fabulous Old Bladbean Stud. Part of the "ngs" national garden scheme, a charity where private and economic gardens open on special days to raise money for the following charity's:

Macmillan Cancer Support - Marie Curie Cancer Care - Help the Hospice - Carers Trust - Queen's Nursing Institute - NT Gardening Careerships - Parkinson's UK - Perennial and the Garden Museum. Old Bladbean Stud nr Stelling Minnis comprises five interlinking gardens created from scratch by the current owner who we met and discussed the thinking behind the design. There is a walled garden full of old fashioned roses, a white and a yellow garden, long lawn and Victorian borders stuffed full of roses, lupins, delphiniums, alliums, fox-gloves, grasses and organic vegetables and fruit. The whole site is self sufficient using solar panels, wind turbines, heat exchangers and rain water collectors and the site is organic allowing the plants and insects to form a microclimate and to self seed. Fabulous, fabulous garden and open throughout the year to allow viewing of the garden throughout the seasons. Add a fabulous tea with "happy birthday size" pieces of home made cake and a brilliant afternoon was had by all!
